Thank you so much. I didn't want this to sound like a bragging thread, I have just been languishing on waitlists for so long, it feels amazing to get an outright acceptance for once.
Really nice campus and faculty. Everyone there was very friendly and accomodating and at the interview. I really felt like they wanted to impress us. The numbers are Mcat ~30 and GPA ~3.5 (about average). They have a high acceptane rate because the school is expensive (as is living in NY), so they also have a high turndown rate. But the students seemed happy...a real communal atmosphere, not too cut throat.

I was actually not on the waitlist, but thank you. I am sure those will begin moving soon.

Really nice facilities...they have a brand new childrens hospital that is absolutely gorgeous. They are affiliated with Westchester hospital, and some other smaller ones in the area. 3rd and 4th years often travel to the city to do some rotations as well. Not so much research because medical students tend to be too busy to do any meaningful benchwork, but the opportunities exist if you seek them out. As for volunteer work, there are tons of opportunities. I interviewed with the dean of admissions and she told me that the students have set up a free clinic that lots of them participate in as well. Good luck.

I am really hoping to get off their waitlist.
Thank you!!! Good luck getting off. From what I hear, they have a very fast moving list. Since I interviewed in March and was accepted outright, I am inclined to think that they have lots of spots that open up around this time due to withdrawals and so forth. I will keep my fingers crossed for you...

Thanks for your support 😍

Congrats to you! Well done!! It looks probable. I have some of waitlists that I am still hoping for. I am so happy with NYMC right now that I feel like the only school I would take over them is USC (my true love, and close to my family).
Congrats and yay for waitlist movement!
Sampras97 said:Are you from California? and do you know when orientation starts at nymc?
When did you interview, Sampras97? I interviewed on April 10 and I'm wondering if acceptances are from earlier interviewers of if I should be worried...
I'm not accepted anywhere and would like to know I'm going to med school next year! Argh, I just need to wait I guess.

Congrats dude! I know how it feels to suffer in Purgatory all year long. I hope you've got a great celebration planned, and a fun summer. Fuel up for the long haul... 😀
See you next year. 😉

If you are directing this comment at me, Thank you! I am a girl, not a dude, but again, Thanks!!! I am going out to dinner tonight, and I am going to have a few martinis, I will tell you that right now. For those of you still in purgatory, I know exactly how you feel, in fact, 24 hours ago I was sitting on this website wondering if I would ever don that elusive white coat. Just remember, your hard work will likely pay off....every dog has his (or her) day.
"Dude" is a generic term, dontchaknow. 😎
Congrats! Its a great feat to get accepted into med school!
kaat 44, i interviewed on march 6th so it was about a 9 week wait for me...it seems like even april interviewees at nymc have a good shot of getting in without being waitlisted...the only annoying thing is that you probably won't find out until june. Good luck to you!!!
sf1991 said:for any of you nymc waitlisters, i just gave up my spot and decided on penn state. good luck to you!!
I am waitlisted at Penn State, and was told by my interviewer I would probably get in. Just out of curiosity, what made you choose Penn State over NYMC?

i preferred penn state's curiculim, it's more integrated with case based and didactic, plus i like the organ based oganization during the second year. i also like the humanities aspect of the curric, and the physicians, patients, and society throughout the first two years. hershey medical center is a regional level one trauma center, it also has a cancer institute, and a heart and vasculature institute (oncology and cardiology are two fields of interest). i really like that everything is right there, med school, institutes, and research. i felt like i would have a better feel for what opportunities are available since i will be spending all 4 years there. it's also a smaller class size, and i really felt comfortable at psu, saw it as a very open environment between students and faculty. also, i am married and my wife (who's a nurse) want to buy a house so we won't be blowing money on rent for 4 more years, and you can get into a small house in harrisburg area for 150K. plus i like the idea of being in a more rustic location while in school. i have spent the last 15 years living in san francisco and think it would be nice to live in a slower paced environment. all that being said, it wasn't an easy decision. i think nymc is a solid school, and offers great clinical oppourtunites with its affiliated hospitals. it was hard to say no to living that close to manhattan as well. hope this helps, and best of luck to you.
