NYMC Waitlist Movement 2007

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
i am probably being very blind sided by saying this (simply because of my plight) but it really aggravates me that after all the money, time, effort, hope, etc spent in the process schools have the audacity to keep you in the dark for an indefinite period of time, does any one else feel that way?

Wouldn't it be easier for schools and applicants, if the waitlists were made public to waitlisters? I dont mean you get to see the individual names of people on the waitlist (that for obvious reasons is not smart).

I mean.. like.. for a ranked waitlist:

They should tell you the total # of rankings (thus the # of ppl waitlisted) and they should tell you what YOUR rank is. When the waitlist is updated, they should say "ranks so and so have been removed, ranks have been changed to, etc." This process can easily be computerized and made available online--this would in my opinoin greatly reduce the volume of calls made to offices, the amount of email clamoring about waitlist movement, and the general anxiety students feel in being kept in the dark.

For an unranked waitlist, you can still say how many people are on it, how many offers were sent out, etc.

I realize schools do much of it in order to ensure their class is properly filled and not ridiculously over rolled or under rolled. However, it is far more costly to the individual for being kept in the dark, than it is to the school for disclosing information.... I dont know... and it would be considerate on the schools part...i just feel that would ease many applicants. Perhaps if enough people raise an objection, in and out ot the system, it may change. /end rant

i totally agree with u.. we definitely pay them enough money to be able to have access to details about the wait-list...how are we expected to live our lives for 3 mos. not having a clue what is going to happen next... making future plans is a gamble where you could lose thousands of dollars in a second (masters, re-app, moving, MCAT, etc.).... im suprised this isn't a cause of students being admitted into a mental asylum b/c this wait-list crap is making me go crazy!!!

i called the admissions office today, and after many calls, someone picked up. I asked about the waitlist and if the class was filled yet, and the secretary said that the class is not filled and they are taking people off the waitlist still. She said they will be taking people off the list until july 30th. I just want to know so i can have some closure....i hate this wait...ughhhhh....soo frustrated at this point!!...i hope this info calms some nerves...gluck

well that's good to hear. i'm definitely still keeping my hopes up. but to keep myself occupied i'm gonna do some more volunteering and fill out my amcas 2008. i'll probably not submit it rightaway thoguh cus that cost money.

ok i know i am posting this on the wrong forum... but since yall are also re-applying:
on course work for academic term, what is this mean?
2003-2004 -- 4-1-4/4-4-1 Calendar 1st Semester (Fall)

i dont rmr choosing this last year but for some reason it has changed all my classes into this format and I don't know if I should leave it like this or change it back to Fall/Spring semesters. Also, what format do I use to enter my senior classes in?

i just got the acceptance letter this morning (7:37am). I was waitlisted in may and interviewed in march. sent 2 upadate/ intent letters. i am the happiest kid in the world today! 😀 don't give up!

congratulations!! do you mind posting your stats?

I also received my acceptance letter this morning at 6:37:56 AM central time via email. Stats: 28 mcat, 3.6, interviewed in march, wait listed in may, amd 2 intent/update letters.

I am still in shock...I checked the email address several times making sure it is correct...but I still cant get myself to believe the email... i hope some1 is not playing a joke on me! G'luck to the rest of you all!

congrats! looks like you don't need to worry about the format of your courses now.

Wow, it really seems that the only people accepted off the waitlist were the ones who interviewed late. Do you think they will go over those who interviewed in the first half of the application season? I interviewed in October.

maybe they'll get to us soon. I interviewed january.

I'm with you...I interviewed 2nd week of January.

I think another trend is that they send out acceptance emails on Monday morning...

I interviewed in....SEPTEMBER, got waitlisted in January. Good thing I'm expecting an acceptance from another school any day now because NYMC hasn't shown me any love. As soon as I get that acceptance I'll have myself removed from the NYMC waitlist. It won't free up an actual space in the class, but it might get someone one spot closer to an acceptance. Good luck everyone.:luck:

i'm gonna do a poll:

all waitlisters please list your
gender
ethnicity

i'll start:
male
asian

-----------
edit
i'll add my shoe size too,
9.5

Oh yeah, lets also do shoe size:

Male
Polish
14

darn, my stats seem kind of low now. 31 mcat, 3.3 gpa.

anyways... has anyone been accepted on a non-monday?? I want to test out my monday acceptance theory.

and I'm female, and white as wonder bread.

3.5, 33 MCAT, female, Portuguese, but they pretty much lump me into the white category.

3.6/30 shoe? 9.5 😛 Asian (FTL! woot haha)

"white as wonderbread"

i'm on the waitlist too...

3.6 / 33R - male, asian from california

tally so far:
white male 1
white female 2
asian male 3
asian female 1

next monday. it'll be next monday!

for those of you who got accepted off the waitlist...did it say you guys have 2 weeks to accept the offer?

my premed advisor emailed the dean of admissions about the status of the waitlist today. got a reply basically saying "we're looking at the waitlist now" without giving much detail. so i guess they're not done with the list yet. keep your hopes up.

i had the weirdest dream today... i dreamt that I got an acceptane to NYMC. Than when I wake up the first thing I do is check my e-mail and guess what I got... 😀😀😀😀😀😀😀

Haha this is my first acceptance so I'm just so unbelievably happy right now. I wish everyone else the best of luck... now its time to pahhhhhtay :hardy:

wow. congrats. when did you interview?

Hey guys. I withdrew my acceptance yesterday because I got in elsewhere. Expect the waitlist to move at least one spot. Good luck!

thanks a lot. congrats again.
so now they're getting to the people who interviewed end of feb i guess. it makes sense.

I interviewed in May (yes, May) and just got off last Friday morning too. Don't give up hope if you were interviewed later. Good luck everyone.

for those who were accepted off the waitlist, did admissions send you an official letter through snail mail saying your were accepted, or did they just send the acceptance only via email?...

bump! I got nothing.

Maybe no one did. Is today two weeks from the last time they sent acceptances? Does anyone know up 'till what date they were taking people off the waitlist in previous years?

the two week theory is bunk. last friday's acceptances totally bunked it.

they're taking people from waitlist till 7/30.. so they say.

They send an email right away and the rest comes snail mail. However, unlike some other schools, they mail everything to your permanent address instead of your preferred address. Which can mean some delays if you don't live there.

interviewed: end of march
waitlisted: mid may
3.3/3.1BCPM 32 + g'town smp

Congrats, how did you do in your SMP?

i really really really hope they still have a good amount of acceptances left to give out... facebook group already has like 89 members and last years class there are only 93 or so members in the group... i mean i know the class is around 190 but there have to be a huge number of people not on facebook! ahhhhhhhhhhhh

Congrats, how did you do in your SMP?

i ended up with around a 3.7. i think gtown's smp has some sort of "understanding" with nymc. around 20 of us interviewed and 6 are attending so far.

does anyone know if the adcom is sending out decisions this week, with the fourth and all? I called on tuesday and asked this question, and the sec was especially cryptic and said she wasn't allowed to say. this leads me to believe that they are not sending out decisions this week, because otherwise they would have given the standard line of, you can hear any day up until july 30.

anyone know??
