NYS Part 3 Exam Rumor

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
We were told to wear professional dress and we all did. Think about it, you are being observed/scored by pharmacists from a variety of settings. If I saw someone dressed like a slob in a sea of shirts and ties I'd be watching them extra closely and read to get let my red pen fly.

It's also not as much as a rumor as a SOP, suck it up buttercup

So how was it? A few of my classmates took it today, and facebook says the written part was challenging.

I finished it in 30 minutes and thought it was easy. Now I'm a bit worried after hearing the general consensus about it. I was thinking in my head that there was no way that it was that simple, now I'm afraid that it wasn't that simple at all.

I think the patient profile is what freaks people out. One of them had no issues to call about and one was a dosing frequency error so that might be what people are worried about.

Lookalike/Soundalike had a few obscure medications that begin with the letter X.

I messed up on the profiles, there goes 10 points.

Also, it was mentioned specifically in the instruction letter that you should wear professional clothing.

The instruction letter also mentioned to bring in pencils, yet we were told later that pencils were not allowed.

Pencils are allowed, just that you need to write your answers in pen >.>

Yeah, but then they kinda made everybody get up and bring their pencils to the front of the room to be put away. Same with the cell phones, just turn it off and keep it in your pocket, holy **** lol.

We were allowed to keep our pencils at our site 🙂

What was your site? They put me at St. John's for the written exam then today I was at Touro.

Surprisingly, today's part was very easy. Rather simple IV to make, and a cream, and a suspension. It could have been so much easier for me but I forgot to bring my calculator, thus I had to break out ye olde style arithmetic/algebra. And for ****'s sake, those labels we had to write on could not have been any smaller.

So did you dress nice?

Yes, and I regretted it too. It was hot in the testing room. I probably dripped sweat all over the products. I asked them to open the windows and they did, but then some asshats complained about the construction and traffic noises from outside so they closed them. I don't understand people who need absolute silence to work. It ain't gonna be absolutely silent when you're working in the pharmacy, you're gonna have phones going off constantly and the store music, and the kids running around, etc.

Obvious asshat is obvious

I had it at LIU. It was easy, too easy. It got me all paranoid.

What did you do for the lisinopril suspension. I ended up using the ora-sweet as a suspending agent, then adding distilled water, then I realized that I didnt have to do that >.>
There goes 20 points.

Also: regarding the profiles, did you mention the interaction between Topamax and Yaz?

It called for a 1 mg/ml suspension and we needed 50 ml of product. So I crushed 2 tabs (40 mg each), dissolved in a little bit of Orasweet. Then add in all 60 ml of Orasweet, QS to 80 ml.

50 ml of that suspension is the dispensed product.

I'm pretty sure I missed that Yaz/Topamax interaction.

Pretty sure I failed it because I messed up on the suspension, and I had the dosing question on the profile wrong too. There goes 6 months of my life.

I dont know if this is right... But i just used water for the suspension

Im so nervous to get my results.. Def dont wanna go through this againnnn lol

I guess that works, but what do you do with the extra 30ml? I probably would have weighed the tablets, and figured out X g = Y mg of lisinopril, and figured out how much tablet power would be 50mg lisinopril. Then I would dissolve and QS to 50ml. Less waste, although a bit more work and math involved.

I'm going to wait until next time to take it, so if I'm way off, feel free to correct me.

I dont know if this is right... But the patient was diabetic so i just used water for the suspension... Did anyone else do that??

And yes.. I did mention that topomac and yaz interaction, i think they would count that, i didnt know about the other profile tho... Im so nervous to get my results.. Def dont wanna go through this againnnn lol
How did it suspend with just water?

Extra, I put back into that extra amber bottle we had. Not sure if I should have tossed it out or not.

How did it suspend with just water?

Not sure if it would suspend well.

Interesting about the diabetic issue.

It dissolved but you still had to shake it up like with any suspension, so i made sure to note to add a shake well auxiliary label.

You should grind the tablets, wet with water to make a paste, add suspending agent to mortar until it's able to be poured. Then rinse mortar with suspending agent, qs, pour out what you need after shaking really well. Not sure how many carbs are in ora-sweet but it's probably a non issue like D5W.

Isn't this whole thread a breach of a standardized examination integrity that might get you in trouble?

Yes. But since when has Sparda cared what regulating bodies think?

I think this thread should be at least 2 shots.

Exactly what I did. However, I did have a rotation in April at a compounding pharmacy. One time a tech had made a Metformin compound and used Orasweet, instead of Orasweet-Sugar Free and the preceptor was like "nooo change it".

Didn't see anything on the instruction booklet that said you can't discuss the exam afterwards. And even if it is, how the hell are you gonna get in trouble?

No worries, mate...you haven't put anything in your previous 5,000+ posts that could help identify who you are.:scared:

Anyone got any pointers on passing the compounding by going to compounding challenge session?
