Another question for you NY locals. How hard is it to get Giants tickets? Seems like home games are sold out to season ticketholders. Any of you guys down to go to a Giants game if its even possible? For example, Peyton vs. Eli on Sep. 10. Giants D vs. Da Bears D on Nov. 12. Wow...

That sounds great. I'm actually in a football fantasy league so if anyone has any tip on drafting let me know.

Another question: How cheap is the cheapest ticket for a Knicks game? I want to see the NY vs Houston Rockets game in Nov. and any info from a NY local would be cool. I saw tix for $40 on the website but was wondering if there are cheaper tix. Thanks.

Off topic question: Anyone know the ratio of men to women at NYU? My friend was asking me about it and I'm curious myself.

I'm definitely down for Nov 12 - Giants vs. Bears.........I'd love to represent Chi-town in a stadium full of giant fans. I'll keep my eyes open for tix

Dude, I failed to realize how pricey Giants tickets can be. On ebay, tickets seem to be averaging 500 for a pair. F'ck that. I'd rather see a Jets game against a good team and watch the Jets get pummelled.

Oh yea, did all you guys buy a PDA yet? I'm hesitant to buy one, especially when we won't really need it. And its kinda expensive...

sadly, tix for just about anything in nyc, such as sporting events, concerts, and even off broadway shows are pretty pricey for poor students like us. There are so many people living here with money to burn, so the demand for tix is high and if you cant pay the prices, there are plenty of people who will.

Have you guys received anything by snail mail regarding the tuition bill for the fall semester?

Apparently, I've received mail at my mom's house, but she hasn't opened it yet so I'm not sure what it is. But someone else here has, so I'm guessing I received something from the Bursar's office. If you check on Albert, it pretty much shows a breakdown of what you owe and the amount of assistance you are/will be receiving.

I read on the NYU billing site that our tuition is due AUG 7th. Thats pretty soon, I thought it was sep 27th if you read the due dates for graduate students on the albert site for the schedule of fee deadlines. So has everyone paid and did most of you use the e check payment option? I'm from Canada so I'm not sure if the echeck will charge me more, I called NYU twice but no one called me back, ahhh..

Hi, i am looking for somebody who is interested in sharing an apartment at waterside. It's $1270 a month + 3 months deposit. The apartment is big and it's a beautiful residence to live in, just 5 minutes walk from the dental
school. If anyone interested, PM me.

Hey if you still haven't found a roommate, I'm still looking for a place to live. Let me know if you're still looking or not. I'm a 24 year old male from Michigan who will be starting my first year at NYUCD.

I called the financial aid office regarding my tuition bill and due date and they told me that i don't need to take any action right now. They said they will check on it themselves and credit it when the loan payment comes.

Is your loan payment paying for the entire amount that we owe? Because I called today and the person at the bursary office said the payment is due monday aug 7th but if its a few days late, it'll be okay.

Hey, but when I called the fao, they said that we don't need to worry about the payment until orientation, even though the due date is August the 8th.

For all the dormers out there, where were you assigned? I'll be in the 26th St. residence.

Almost time to move!

for PDA's, i just bought a treo 650 from cingular, so i don't have to carry around a ohone and pda. most phone services sell Palm treo's, i found it to be easiest.

and just show up on the 19th i think it is, the day before orientation starts we can move in. i called and thats what they said.

Hi
This maybe side topic but I am interested in NYU dental school, but being an international student (from Canada) how will I be able to pay for it? Please advise on some of the options available/present to international students (by NYU and other sources)? Thanks.

Actually it's 20th August (Sunday) the day before the orientation. I called them up and they said we can move in on 20th, the day before the orientation starts.

Hey Chakshu,

I'm also Canadian and I will be attending NYU this fall. My decision to attend NYU was a tough one to make, partly because the school and cost of living is expensive. As Canadian citizens our resources are limited, but in the end it all worked out 🙂 . Here's my game plan:

$150 000 line of credit Royal Bank (cosigner req'd)
$40 000/year Citibank (no cosigner req'd)
$8 000 - $9 000 OSAP

You can also go through CanHelp, but I don't know much about that loan program.

I hope this helps!

Yeah, where do we all meet up for orientation?

Can we do it at a local club... hahaha

i'm serious, i don't know?

i'd go with the club if it were up to me 👍

i'm gonna call em up and ask, but if anyone knows kindly let me know 🙂

a club...good one kids. Orientation is Monday the 21st at 9AM, at an orientation tent on E.25th between 1st and 2nd avenues. It says professional attire is required unless otherwise noted, but I think I am just gonna stay away from jeans and open toed shoes, and not wear a suit since it will most likely be very hot.

No need to wear a suit for orientation unless you wanna sweat your little jimmys off before you give Dr. Bucklan a chance to do it.

Just a shirt and pants is good and the equivalent for the ladies.

Have any of you dormers chosen a meal plan yet? I'm still undecided on how many to sign up for since I don't know how convenient it will be to eat at the dining halls or how edible the food is. Anyone have any insight or suggestions on the matter? I'll be living in the 26th St. res hall. Thanks for any help you can provide.

I was thinking of seeing how the food is, then deciding on whether to purchase the meal plan because I don't think there is a deadline to register for it. And with the meal plans costing quite a bit I think cooking even in the small kitchen they provide in the shared suite would be better.

Quick question. Do we pay for vitalbook every year? So $2050/year?

^^I thought grad students were not eligible for the meal plans?

Im sorry but are you guys crazy??!!! DO NOT GET A MEAL PLAN. You will be in a major city with any food you can imagine within a 2 block radius. Why on earth would you want to pay in advance for a years worth of mediocre, overpriced food?

Yeah... this guy/girl knows what he/she's talking about. Listen to him/her if you want to save money and still have good food.

Yes. Every year you pay for the Vitalbook, I think it is an invaluable resource.

You are eligible for the meal plan but the cafeteria is at the downtown campus. It is pointless and a waste of money. It's time for everyone to learn how to cook if you aren't capable of doing so yet.

So where do people go to buy grocery and is it expensive? I also need to buy bed linens and a comforter... any advice would be pleasantly rewarded with a thanks. Thanks. That was half-a$$ but thanks.

There is a D'agostinos and Gristedes that are both very close to the school. The groceries are expensive compared to supermarkets outside of the city. It is just a sad fact in the city. If you want you can always visit the new Trader Joes in Union Sq., cheap and wholesome food that no supermarket can beat. Linens and things can be found at Bed Bath and Beyond that I believe is somewhere between 50s-60s and 1st ave. If you citysearch it you'll get the exact address. Either way it is a short ride with the number 6 train and they are pretty inexpensive.

Any other questions and concerns pm me. I'm Aleks so look for me during your orientation.

God Bless

I have been in New York doing a Masters of Clinical Research for the past two years. My experience has directed me to Freshdirect.com. Its the cheapest and they will deliver it when you want and put it in your kitchen! Just do it all online, and they have sign up bonuses, and high quality food.

I would advise everybody to make sure you read their website carefully. Their policy does not work for everyone, especially if you're tight on money one day or live on your own. You can't just order a container of milk if that is all you need. If you've got a family this service would be great. Plus, most supermarkets in the city deliver as well.

God Bless

Coming from LA, i love my trader joes, and i was surprised there is one near union square, so thats what i'm banking on. even if its a bit more pricey than out here, it will still be cheap. I've been to gristedes, they are everywhere and convenient, but expensive from what i noticed.

Sorry to bump this old thread, but how many of you guys are actually in NYC now? I'm flying out there tomorrow morning and I'm nervous as hell...can't believe this **** is finally going to happen starting next Monday.

And am I an idiot for signing up for that research study? Couldn't pass up $300...

And any idea on when we're allowed to move into the dorms? See you all on Monday, or Sunday if you're staying on 26th St. Peace!

I heard Sunday is the day we can move in but not sure what time.

Does any current students or local know a good sports bar around the school that has league pass for football and basketball? Thanks.

Hey!!
Does anybody know what time orientation starts on Monday and where we are supposed to meet?
Thanks!!
Looking forward to meeting everyone!! =)

i'm gettin there Sunday morning also.
And staying in 26th Street Residence.
Hope to meet all of you rad people on Sunday/Monday.

I did signup for the research study. Yeah... couldn't resist 300 bucks. Infact i think i already spent those 300 bucks even before i got them on tennis gear/equipment.

I think somebody mentioned something about an orientation tent somewhere near the dental school on Monday on this thread.

I hope somebody on the orientation committee checks out this thread and respond.

Gotta go pack. See ya all soon.

I'm comin in on Saturday morning to sign my lease at the watersideplaza. Hoping to check out the gym on Sunday. And, yes I couldn't resist the $300/$500 payout either, so I'll see ya guys there on Tuesday morning. Did you guys all get the confirmation email about the research? But, whoever wants to meet up to go to the gym to workout or play some hoops, let me know... maybe we can get a group up there at the Palladium... 👍

i sitll don't know the schedule of orientation..i'm gonna try calling them up again...see u at orientation!

what are people wearing on Monday? I am assuming guys are gonna go the pants and button down route, but how about the girls? No open toes I am assuming but can we wear shirts? Sleeveless? This is so difficult for me since I have never had to wear professional clothing before except a suit for the interview.

You guys think it would look bad if I came in jeans? 🙄

just called the admission office and was told that we would be broken up into smaller groups. Then these groups would be selectively sent off to different locations (health services, ID's, financial aid, etc....).

as for the laptops we dont need to bring them in on monday...on monday NYU will give us a packet containing an outline of the activities sceduled for the orientation period....

I was quite limited in what i was able to pack, so ill be in jeans and a shirt most likely. cant do anything about it for now.

Our first week ppl started out wearing pants and shirts for guys and the equivalent for the ladies. By the time friday came along, the shorts, jeans and flip flops were in full swing. Id say for the first day try to keep it business cas if you can. Either way, have fun.
