Just a quick question regarding if NYUCD has cashed any of your deposits yet. I sent my check in early/mid-December and as of today, the check has not been cashed. Anybody else in the same boat and/or have any insights? thanks

They still haven't cashed my check yet either. I'm hoping that they'll agree to just tear it up if I call to withdraw soon.

I guess I should be asking if anybody has had their deposits cashed (or not) yet?

Why don't you want to go there anymore?

I'm hoping to get an acceptance from my top choice school soon. They said they'd be making their decision by next week. I like NYU, but I'd just rather go to another one.

The issue isn't whether they cash your check. The issue is whether they remember to record your payment after cashing your check.

They did this to hundreds with the app fee.

same. NYU haven't cash my check yet.

So does this mean that if someone makes NYU deposit but gets an offer to his/her top choice a few weeks later, then he/she can put a stop-payment on the deposit check to NYU (assuming it hasn't been cashed yet)?

Do schools have recourse against this tactic?

Send it to collections. Probably hurts your credit quite a bit.

Probably would make sure that you'll pay for that other dental school in cash.

What'd the email say?

I got an email saying they received my deposit. Presumably they've either already cashed it or will do so shortly.

I sent a money order though (since I'm international) so regardless if they deposit it or not, it's gone. :3

I don't think they can send it to collections. I mean a deposit is merely to hold one's spot in the class. Thus, if one decides that he wants to give up his spot, then he doesn't need to pay and should have the privilege to make a stop payment. The school has no one to blame but themselves for not processing the check promptly. Plus, screw NYU, they collect two deposits: first one for $1500 and a second (highway robbery) one for $3500. $5000 total. Frickin' insane. They deserve to have a few stop payments done against them.

NYU took forever to cash the checks for our applications. This doesn't surprise me.

I spoke with admissions staff at NYU and they informed me that they were expressing technical issues with the bursar. I'll keep you informed when there is an update.

sooo is anyone gonna stop payment on their check? I just got another acceptance today from my top choice school.
should I call the admin office first and give them a heads up/ask them to tear the check up? I'm pretty sure this won't have any financial repercussions for me, but I"m still a little weary. I just could really use that $1500 tho!

Any chance they said how long it would be til this technical issue is resolved? aka: how long do I have to decide what to do?

If you notify them of your intent, then they will fix that machine in 2 seconds flat and process all the checks. Don't ruin it for the rest of us who need a little more time. Just ask if you can cancel your deposit payment or keep a small checking account balance so it'll bounce.

The guy answering the phones in the admin office told me that all the checks have been sent to the bursar. Then he gave me the number to the bursar's office and told me to call them and ask that the check be removed. I called and the bursar took the check out and said he'd send it back to admissions to be destroyed.
I feel so rich now! Or rather, not as poor as I thought I was.

Sweet. Don't spend it all in one place.
