NYU considered as #1 "Dream school"

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Literature has no intrinsic worth, the value of a piece of literature lies only in the eye of the beholder (bereader?)

Solipsistic psuedo rationale. To compare Harry Potter to epic poems of old British Literature.. .? Literature has worth, that resides in the form of designated fiat value by authors and readers of the old and new generation. Intrinsic ? No one made that claim. For those who have not read the annals of literary progression, of course it holds no value... old literary pieces have yet to be discovered by them, and hence, are beyond their worldview.

Woops... To stay on topic, I like NYC.

NYU as a dream school is a pretty bold statement

Definetly wasn't my dream school, isn't yours either. I've got a friend who fell in love with the place. In fact, the location, huge class size, and environment is what I didn't like...she loves it!

I say that's cool because we all get to hopefully find a school that we won't hate too much for 4 years...

from what ive read in the dental forum, everyone hates their school after 4 years.

It's because of stress from dental school. That's why we need a place like NYC to de-stress. 😉

I see, so either we enjoy what a bunch of old white men have determined is "worthy" or we're wrong, or worse, not "cultured." The decision of what is valuable literature belongs to the reader and the reader alone.

You've either decided to read or interpret a different opinion of one that I've typed out. "Literature has worth, that resides in the form of designated fiat value by authors and readers of the old and new generation." Worded differently, literature has a relegated worth that is personal to those who have read old works, and their interpretive modern counterparts. Rest assured. I'm not telling you what old white men have deemed worthy, or that you should accept it. I'm telling you what one young half white/half asian male thinks, after studying both since my time in boarding school. In my mind, Rowling is a storyteller for children. Milton, however, was a storyteller for the ages. Of course, if you've read works from both and disagree, that's fine as well - though you won't find many that will.

If that's the case, then you agree with what I'm saying, and are translating it into a more convoluted form.

Anyway, this all started out as a joke anyway. I would have accepted the following responses to my original post and left it at that: "lol", "loller", "lawl", "oMGlol", or "dude yuo are teh roxxorz!!1"

Yes and no, as convoluted as it might seem ...

Readers hold the right to interpret said texts within the lexicon of their literary knowledge. That, I agree with. However, to mention Rowling in the same breath as Milton... that's downright heresy to me 😛

"lol", "loller", "lawl", "oMGlol", or "dude yuo are teh roxxorz!

I have no idea what that stuff means.
