So i just found out that my parents will be helping me pay for dental school. They agreed to pay for all of my living expenses plus one year tutition at NYU. This means my debt will be around 180K instead of 330K if i choose NYU. MY question is...would people choose NYU if there total debt after 4 years is 180K + interest???? your thoughts please

congrats! you're a lucky one. NYU is a good school and its location is fantastic. However, you still have to think about the huge class size plus other minor negatives. I think a lot of people would go there if they only have to pay 180k.

180K for a dental education seems like a steal nowadays. but if your parents are willing to shell out 150K, then why not go to your state school or a cheaper school and come out with less debt? just curious...🙂

Wow, ur parents are awesome!!

i did not get into my state school yet...but if i do..should i choose nyu for 180k or state school with NO debt...granted the lifestyle in NYC is priceless

I guess most would say living in NYC is priceless but i dont know that 4 years of living in NYC is worth $150k especially when the first 2 years you're going to be up to your neck in your coursework...

However, I've lived in NYC my entire life so perhaps i dont value it as much as others would..

If you plan on going to NYC for 4 years then leaving, i dont think you'll get much out of it.. and thats just what you will do most likely, since working in NYC for a couple years after dental school would require you do either an AEGD or GPR..

I know NYC is a beacon that calls out to everyone and draws them in.. However, I think you should make your decision based on which school you prefer and not its location.

Thats an awesome offer your parents made you. however, if you end up getting into a state school or something cheaper...i would say go for it. IMO, graduating from dental school with zero debt is priceless 🙂.

living in new york city is a great experience, but i'm sure you could think of better things to do with 180K. personally, the temptation of life after dental school without debt far surpasses anything nyc can offer.

I would go even paying the 330K. hahaha go for it! 👍

Some people are just lucky. Dental school without debt? Priceless 👍

Are your parents looking for another kid? Because I just went up for adoption. Congrats bro, that is really cool of your parental units!
