NYU interview hotel advice
Started by ThatGuyYouAre
I have an interview next month and was wondering if anybody who had or is going to an interview recommends any hotels under $100 a night near campus?
you're not going to find a decent hotel for that cheap in manhattan
my advice is to look for places in new jersey that are close to a path train station and go from there. you'll save money, but it may take a little longer to get there.

I got one last year for $135. It was called Hotel 17, and it was a 5 minute walk from the dental school. That being said, I would not necessarily recommend it. The room was about big enough for me touch the opposing walls at the same time, the room was (poorly) heated with a loud radiator, and the bed... lets just say it left something to be desired.
Oh and the showers are dorm style - so you would have to get up a bit early to compete for them. The only positive point was waiting for my shower with a bunch of cute women dressed only in towels.
You know what... just take the advice of the guy above.

Hi, I saw a promotion for Virgin America Airlines just in case you are looking for cheap travel.

hellopeople, i can only imagine what that place was like. i've seen some of the hotels that are that cheap (and cheaper) and i almost vomited at how unsanitary some of them were.
bed bugs are also a big problem at cheaper ny hotels OP, so tread softly.

It is new york. It is impossible.
You are talking about midtown manhattan, even more impossible.
You can try couchsurfers if you are adventurous.
Or you can try to find someone on SDN to share a room with you.

That is not a hotel. lol.
I bid on priceline and got a hotel for 150 its around a half hour walk to the dental school.
I also heard hotels.com has something similiar as far as bidding but I have never used it.

I stayed at American Dream Hostel:

It's like a 5-10 minute walk from NYUCD. Pretty sure it's $60+ a night. Personally I'm fine with hostels, have been staying at them all over the world for years, but I know most people have a strong aversion to them. My experience was 2 room mates, the shower is shared, but it's a single shower room so no one else is in there with you. No problem with heat/cold or dirty anything or bed bugs. The perfect budget option at an incredibly convenient location.

You could also check out
https://www.airbnb.com/
It is a community of people that rent out a room in the house to travelers. You are not going to get under 100 in manhattan, but you could in the other boroughs.

I have an interview at NYU also, and I will most likely go with rooming new jersey city or newark and taking PATH to NYU. It would be at least 40 minutes from newark to NYU, from what I have heard. the Path train is about 10 dollars per trip.
PATH runs at $2 per trip..so if you get on from Newark, it will take you to 23rd and 6th within 40 minutes or so..from there it is about another 15 minute walk to NYUCD which is on 23rd and 1st. Unfortunately there isn't a subway stop that will take you directly to the school. However, there is a bus (I believe it is the M23 bus) that will take you within one block of the campus.
