Why is it a joke? You should go there and check it out...it might change your decision on where to go for dental school. I was impressed with everything at NYU ...except for the cost.

A joke because my app has been complete since JULY!!! They have had plenty of time to interview me...why so late?
I have interviewd on the first day of MANY top schools...I don't understand why there would be such a huge delay in NYU interviewing me..

But you may be right...I may set up an interview and check it out ..who knows...

FLyermann are you going to go?
I kind of want to call them and yell at them...

Don't act like you are too good for them. It doesnt look good on your part. If you are not interested dont go. Its that simple. Many schools receive thousands of applications, maybe your app got miss placed or mixed up with another applicant. There are hundreds of reasons you are only now receiving your interview.
They have great facilities, and a decent program. Since you are already going into it with a distaste in your mouth, you shouldnt go, your not going to enjoy it. But you should at least know you got a interview. :meanie:

In now way am I saying I'm too good for them. IT IS EXPENSIVE to fly back and forth to the East Coast...if i had heard earlier I got have scheduled this interview with another and saved money. I now cannot afford to go. That is why I am bitter...but u're right I should be happy I got an interview! what would you do if you were in my shoes??

I take it your in Cali. and you got accepted into UCLA, I would go there. Don't bother with any other interviews. IMO both of the UC's schools are great, and if I had a chance to go there I would, but since I am not a Cali resident anymore I didn't apply, you live in Cali for 23 years and move away for two suddenly your not eligible for instate residency anymore😡. I loved LA but I don't want to go to USC (too expensive to teach yourself).

If you want to check out NYU, see when they have avalibul and find out when you can get a cheap flight, and have the two match up, if you really want to see the school.

i feel you. I am in the same situation as u are, i went three interviews before dec 1 and got acceptance offers from all. So i don't know should i go to NYU interview or not. i live in the east coast, so it won't be too bad to drive up there, but then at the same time my little voice from inside is telling me NYU is too expensive, if i'm not considering to go there why bother??? But i am so glad that at least i know they look at my application; my $75 worth something at the end 😀

It depends on how expensive the other school is. If its a whole $100,000 less, DONT EVEN GO TO NYU TO INTERVIEW. Its not worth it. The school is way too expensive.

Unless you're already rich (family money, etc) and you don't mind blowing some cash, then I'd say go for it -- NYU has great facilities, location is amazing, you'll have the time of your life.

Be glad that you were invited for an interview. Some of us would love to be in your shoes right now. I'd take it if I were you because you never know unless you go there and see it for yourself.

if you're not seriously considering it, and it seems like you'd prefer to go to one of the schools that have accepted you already, i would say drop the interview solely because of the money to travel. but if you're honestly curious about nyu, then go for it, if it's a true option. but it's hard to beat the schools that you've already been admitted to.

Just spoke to NYU, they said a letter was mailed to me yesterday. Is it good or bad? I don't know.

while there are no dental school rankings (thankfully they don't buy into the USNews charade), there is a differentiation in terms of which schools are able to attract the top students. this is more pertinent to private schools, as public schools attract the top students in their state with their low tuitions and oftentimes great education!

but if you are a very strong applicant, NYU may have thought you were only considering them as a safety school. so if your top choices didn't come through by dec-1st, then you would have gladly accepted the interview invite you just got.

however with the increased interest in dentistry as a career (more applicants every year), then all schools are going to get harder to get into. and with the improvements NYU is making, they're sure to keep on moving up everyone's list.

so once again remember that admissions committees have limited resources, and want to get the best students that will accept their offers. i'd say that NYU read you pretty correctly.

I think that's good! I'm sure several of the people they've extended offers to have declined the acceptance already so you were probably at the top of their waitlist. They send rejections out on Friday with the acceptances so I'm pretty sure it's not one of those.

You serious? I think you already know the answer.

Let's review the facts:

1) you have been accepted
2) you have been accepted to schools you would prefer going to
3) it costs a lot of money to fly to new york and stay there
4) if you want a vacation to NYC, you can use the money you saved from not attending the interview, go and have fun doing the things you want to do
5) you have been accepted to schools you would prefer going to (it bears repeating..)

Why bother? Honestly? I'm curious why you would even consider NYU if your other schools are higher on the list? Is it an ego thing for you? Please reply, I genuinely want to know.

IT IS EXPENSIVE to fly back and forth to the East Coast...if i had heard earlier I got have scheduled this interview with another and saved money. I now cannot afford to go.

If you cannot afford one cross-country flight to New York, then you certainly cannot afford to attend NYU for 4 years.

for those who want to b#$@ at me, keep in mind there are 4 MAJOR airports in the greater NYC area to fly into. Flying is expensive, but flying into a major airport, such as the NYC ones is much less expensive than going to Boise, Idaho by many hundreds of dollars.

NYU sux compared to those other schools..dont bother.

Well, you've already been accepted at other schools, you have nothing to lose by going (except some cash) at this point, you can only regret not going.. Unless of course your already happy with the acceptances you have. You may end up liking the school, the city and what they have to offer.. If money is a factor in going to the interview, then the cost of the school should be influencing you too.. But like I said, you may end up liking something there, you never know..

I don't know what your stats are, but if you got into so many good schools, maybe you have a shot at a scholarship at NYU. I don't have details on any of them, but NYU is well-funded and I have heard of top students who have gotten scholarships to NYU. I think it's a good school and would be many people's #1 choice were it not for cost.

If you can, go and check it out and ask about scholarships while you're there.

hey.. well im from Canada.. and NYU is considered the "easy to get into" school in the states.. Im not sure if that is just a rumour here or what...

I dont mean any bashing but I would certainly choose UCLA over NYU when considering its reputation...

guess what im trying to say is internationally UCLA is a much more recognized school... so my advice would be to just take ur UCLA spot and enjoy urself for the next couple of months until u start dentistry.

goodluck

one more thing.. i think the real question I would be asking myself if I got into columbia and UCLA.. is which one of those two I would choose

cheers

please provide reasons for your opinion....don't post a radical opinion and leave.
Everything you need is at NYU! Plus you have diversity; you meet new people from everywhere . Its location can't be better. However, think about the cost.

Like NYU didn't have 4000 applications to sort through before Dec. 1st.

🙄

Heaven forbid yours was put on the backburner.

If you are interest then go check it out..if not then give the spot to someone else.

You have to be joking. Have you even been to New York City? 2 hours in Time's Square and a visit to central park does not count.

If you have visited New York City, have you lived there? The cost of living is ridiculous. UBS, the bank, puts out a cost of living index every year. This takes into account a number of different factors. New York City is the second most expensive city in the world.

People are rude. Housing is overpriced and undersized. Most people cannot afford to live there, or they cannot stand it, so your friends are constantly changing every 2 years. Parking can take over an hour, if you get it, and it takes you minimum 45 minutes to get anywhere. It is too hot in the summer and too cold in the winter, and that is only the tip of the iceberg. Seriously. People who think New York is "the best" have never lived on the west coast.

Great town to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there.
