Newquagmire or anyone who got an NYU interview invite, was it by email only? I heard they were gonna send snail mail. When were you guys complete?

I had email, no idea about snail mail (I'm not at home actually). I'm also applying MSTP, so it may be a little different than MD schedule.

Chapinsta posted that NYU was going to start sending MD invites out in mid-November so sit tight.

NYU and Stanford are so freaking lame. By the time they start sending out interview invites, some people have already had 3-4 acceptances and have completed the rest of their interviews. What could possibly take that long ?

NYU: everything's on paper

Stanford: they're uber selective at the interview invite step. since they only take 90 people or so, they probably take more time to figure out who they want to talk to.

or, they could just be slow.

I called NYU last week and was told that the first interview invites were sent on Oct 15, and that interviews would start on Nov 01. But if Chapinsta's info is correct, maybe they start interviewing MSTPs first. Maybe MDs start only in Nov. I mailed my app the first day that they accepted applications. No word yet except for email saying it was complete.

When did you get your completion notice? I got mine 10/1, and I haven't heard anything yet either.

Wait so does someone actually have an MD invite or not?

The adcom that I spoke to said that MSTP's have a different committee that looks at them first and they may be on a different schedule. He said that those who were COMPLETED before Sept.1 get invited first starting in mid-Nov. I sent in my app on Aug 6 (2 days after they started accepting apps) but I wasn't "completed" by them until Oct.1, so by their standards, I'm mid-process and not early at all. And so let the waiting begin...

I'm interviewing at other NYC schools during one week in November, so I called up NYU last Thursday to see if any progress had been made. The interview coordinator responded by saying, "I'm happy to say that we just mailed out the first interview invites an hour ago who and you were one of them!" Needless to say, I was happy and I went ahead and scheduled for an interview in November.

I believe the first available dates were in early November for regular MD admissions.

I read somewhere that NYU's residency for 1st 3 matches is around 60%. That's pretty low compared to other schools about the same rank.

Does it sound reasonable? If so, any particular reason for such low percentage?

60% ? is it cuz many NYU grads are trying to apply for the top specialties at the top places and are having a tough time of it? To tell you the truth, I don't know what NYU's rep is.... I always thought it was pretty strong--institutions like Bellevue come to mind-- but I've heard recent talk of late to the contrary.

Are there any NYU med students out there that can chime in?

Why do you think NYU's is so low?

Remember, we're talking about NYC guys. When you mix some of the country's most competitive med students and an increase in the number of NY students applying outside the city for residency (post 9/11), you're going to have a lowered percentages. Check out Columbia and Cornell's match rates!! With 76.80% and 73.90%, respectively, they're the lowest in the top 20!

I'd say figures are nothing to worry about.

i just got my interview invite 5 minutes ago. it was through surface (snail) mail and i'm all the way here in seattle. never been to ny so i'm very excited!!! plus this is my first interview invite. RIGHTEOUS!

I got my application complete in mid september also, but no word on interview. =I i hear they send out the first batch of interviews now .. but does this mean that i'm probably rejected since i haven't heard from them yet?? 🙁
