Nyu interviews 2006

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
@Chocochip,
I wouldn't be wrong in assuming that atleast 200 people will still be waiting hopefully to hear from NYU. 8-p
Last year, they stopped in 85. So you most probably will get a call for an interview.
All the best

snowpeaks told me that 7 students showed up on feb 14th. i was doing little math and concluded that on feb 2 only 5 showed up, next week just 3 and on feb 14th 7, so that mean only 15 students showed up in three weeks, how many of u got a call for next week(21st or 22nd) and for 28th?
please kindly post

this is really good news, if they had called the students below 85, I had 87, now i had get some faith that they will call me for the interview.

I have 89, 3.83, 280, applied in August, live in NY but they didn't invite me yet. So I'm not sure on which basis do they invite people first. I don't think they are doing it alfabetically either🙂

@khurrum,
You, my dear friend were the only one if I remember right. That is why I didn't include you in my errr..um..statistics?

p.s ... Regarding this being alphabetically, lemme go and kiss my parents 😀 Come to think of it, I probably have the smallest name in the world 'first and last name included'

sorry, but there are people with first and last names together 4 letters!!!! 😀

and as far as considering the alphabetical order, generally the last name is considered (i know they dont for interviews) 🙂

I think you are wrong, they do not call people in alphabethical order.
My last name starts with "V" and I was invited 2 weeks ago, I chose the 28th.

Hey guys,(Maverick),

You think there are different criteria for selection, I mean you had said that if you are Indian, better improve your scores!!! Isn't the selection criteria same for all the students??

Thanks!!!

well seems like it is not.if the criteria is same i mean if they take in to consideration your g.p.a,ndbe scores and your experience i do not think nonindians stand the competition from indians.If you see the number of attempts to take ndbe exams is not limited so many dentists from india keep taking the exams untill they achieve 90 or above where as nonindians would not do that either of financial reasons or age reasons or of language(especially the scientific terms are difficult to uinderstand).so the admission authorities don't have a choice but to reject people if they are looking for diversity.hope that explains.

hi guys and gals....just received an interview call from nyu via email!going to call up the admissions office to schedule a date!wish me luck....!!! :laugh: :meanie:

My interview is on the 28th of Feb. They let us schedule the interview ourselves based on availability.

Just a request for those of you being interviewed this week, or in the next couple of weeks, please post your interview experience for us so we have an idea of what to expect. I will post my experience in detail too afterwards.

Hi Desi-Dentist,My interview is also on 28th feb

I had an interview at NYU so I thought I would share my experience. I found the staff to be quite friendly and supportive. They really tried to keep us calm and relaxed. Interviews began before 8am and I was one of the first ones called. There were 10 of us in total and each one of us had an interview of at least 20 minutes, to a max of about 40 minutes.

My interview went reasonably well, I thought, but you never really know what they are expecting. I was asked basic questions. Everyone was asked why NYU? They go over your resume and pick out specific experiences to discuss with you. I was asked what procedures I performed in India and what I would like to do in the future. I was also asked specific questions from my personal statement. Overall, for me, there were no surprises. I was only asked a few questions and more time was spent in conversation.

From what I heard from other students, they do ask you questions dealing with ethics. They may ask you to compare and contrast your experience back home and over here. Don't be surprised if they ask you about any lower scores or anything they perceive to be negative on your transcript.

The rest of the morning was spent in tours and lunch. It is a beautiful facility. Perhaps the best I have seen in any dental school. We had lunch with other students there so we had an opportunity to gain more information. I was very satisfied with the experience and I really hope things work out for me here.

Some more info. for you guys. I heard this from the source so it should be legit. They have reviewed 747 applications for this program, and they intend on interviewing approx. 10 students a week. There are 125 seats. Since interviews are held over four months, this would mean that they would probably call 160-180 students for an interview and there is a better than 50% chance of being accepted if called.

Other advice I would give you guys. Do not take your original documents with you for the interview. They never asked for it and it is just extra weight. Staff member there told me it is better we keep it at home and they will let us know if they need any documents. Try to get there at 7:30am. The interviews are fairly easy going and if they have you called you, there is a good chance they already like you. Keep it simple and be yourself. If there are any other questions, please feel free to pm me. Wish me luck!
