So I have been fortunate to receive acceptances to both NYU and NOVA. I now have to make a really tough decision and pick one of those schools. I really liked both when I interviewed. Assuming that I receive the military scholarship that I applied for, which school should I pick? What I value in a school is a good clinical education and a school that makes as stress free as possible the four years as a dental student. I liked that NYU gives its students quite some autonomy and records all lectures, but I also like the location of NOVA. Can anybody chime in? Also, I am out of state for both schools!

Easily NYU. Hands/feet down.

NYU. Heard NOVA was having some clinic problems.

Hi lonz. I really value your input. Would you mind explaining why NYU?

NYU clinical aspect (unlimited patient base compared to supposed problems at NOVA), research opportunities, outreach, and location is superior to NOVA. Downsides are cost and class size.
Isn't Nova on the expensive side as well?

Seems like the consensus is NYU. Though I was actually leaning towards NOVA for location. And like I said, cost will hopefully not be the limiting factor since I am hopeful for the military scholarship.

Let's hope you get it! NYU is an amazing school. I think they see the most patients than all dental schools in the country, even with a class size of 360 you'll get the experience you need. And all lectures are recorded and available on itunes? +1

Basically this. Honestly, if NYU reduced their CoA, they would easily be one of top 3 dental schools in the nation IMO.

Inb4 dental schools don't rank.

Which school is better if you want to specialize?

I would stick with NYU, NOVA being located in Ft. Lauderdale is nice but NYU seems to be a better dental school clinically and it has a better reputation/recognition factor if you're into that. On the tour they said they have a lot of research for students who want to be involved in it and that can always help your case if you want to specialize after the 4 yrs.

NYU due to more opportunities for research and outreach and the location is closer to more externships. Not saying you can't specialize from NOVA, I think you'd have to try a little more harder to achieve those things necessary for a good application.

It is slightly less but for the most part, you can consider it expensive.

ADEA guide says 96.6/93.6/90.7/93.2 for NOVA, 104.6/105.4/107.3/99.2 for NYU.
What do these numbers mean?

Estimated cost per year.
OMG are you serious??? I thought Nova was 55K a year??? Holy moly - and they get away with this? As you can tell this is all new news to me. Ok I am in shock now.

That figure includes tuition, fees, living and other expenses. Living expenses is usually an overestimate unless you live a pretty lavish life so subtract a little bit from each year. Yeah, you are correct that tuition alone is $55,597 for Florida residents and $57,271 for out-of-state students.

Would I be making an immature decision if I chose Nova? I got the military scholarship, so cost is a non-factor. To be honest, I liked Nova much more when I visited entirely based on location and weather. I know that Nova might not be as strong clinically as NYU, but I am planning on developing my clinical skills in the military when I apply for their AEGD. Also I feel like with the military stipend I could live comfortably in Fort Lauderdale, while I would have to take out additional loans for NYU. Any ideas guys??

ahhhh i can't decide and it's almost april 1st.

NYU embodies the 'boy's club' mentality. Sure you can specialize and go on to big things. Without a 'rabbi,' you're lost in the matrix.
