NYU

Pros:
  • Clinical experience
  • Being in NYC
  • Clinic

Cons:
  • Expensive tuition and expensive cost of living
  • Large class size
  • Far from home
Midwestern - Az

Pros:
  • Loved campus culture
  • Big patient pool
Cons:
  • Newer school
  • Smaller town (Glendale)

Currently, leaning more towards NYU because of the facilities and I really enjoyed the candidate day. I am heavily interested in specializing down the line, too. I’m just hesitant because everyone seems to have negative things to say about NYU, but the people I know who have attended liked it well enough.

cheaper

Even though midwestern is expensive I honestly have never heard of anyone saying anything bad about it (besides the financials). Clinical experience at midwestern is unmatched - I know of someone who has had the ability to place implants and work with 3 different types of laser technologies that you generally only see in residencies.

I would choose midwestern, CoL is significantly less expensive, and I wouldn't want my class to be +300 people. Not sure what school is "better" at getting people into specialties. Maybe reach out and see if you can find statistics on that before deciding.

I don’t think MW-AZ has as strong of a match rate than NYU, but let’s be realistic, you’re going to dental school to be a general dentist. Not a specialist. And if you end up deciding you want to be a specialist you’ll find a way no matter which school you’re at.
NYU will bury you in debt. I know MW isn’t cheap, but it’s gotta be cheaper than nyu. Clinicals I’ve heard are fantastic at MW and they’ll prepare you well. Also, I’m in a class of 105 and sometimes even that feels big. Let alone 360 students. That’s nuts. I don’t think you’d get the personal touch at NYU and you’re there solely for a degree, networking with profs I think would be more difficult than going to a smaller school.

Why would you even consider NYU? If I were you, I would stick with Midwestern. NYU tends to weed out a bunch of students and has a very toxic environment.
