Bah, I live in Brooklyn and didn't get anything. I suspect that the early letters are waitlists and the late ones are straight rejections. Just a theory.

For y'all's sake I hope they're not wasting time stuffing pre-interview rejections at the same time...
A while back I participated in a bulk-mailing fundraiser envelope stuffing party. FWIW I remember the post office requires you to sort by zip-code for bulk...I don't know how they do it at the schools, but there's one more variable to think about over the long weekend. 🙂

So I received a waitlist letter today as well and just called the admissions office and the lady told me that the waitlist is not ranked. As soon as the school needs more people to fill up the class, the admissions committee will review all the folders again. So good luck everyone!!

That seems so awfully inefficient. I wonder what their philosophy is behind having an unranked waitlist...
The reason why they do this is best explained through example. Let's say that more boys than girls decline initial offers for NYU, so now the current class has 50 girls and 20 boys. The total class size is 100. If the waitlist were already ranked they may end up with 70 girls and 30 boys, which no med school wants. They want the med class to be as balanced, diverse, interesting as possible. No one is ranked so now they will pull 30 boys from the waitlist pile because they want to have a balance of 50 girls and 50 boys in the class. Having a pile instead of a list also allows students who are genuinely interested to contact the school and write letters of intent that would make them stand out in a pile, but not necessarily change their position in a ranked list.

I would like to point out that last year and in years past, according to mdapplicants and threads on this forum, there have been straight rejections post-interview. Therefore I would expect a few to go out this year, though they are probably few and far between.
