Interesting. Yeah I agree that they are probably few and far between. With such a short interview and review period they probably dont over interview like many schools
 
I hope there is a lot of waitlist movement once Harvard, Columbia, and other top-notch schools send their non-rolling acceptances. I feel like many of the super-whiz kids who got accepted to NYU applied mainly as a backup to those top-notch schools. Probably obvious, just trying to be optimistic.

Is anyone else here dead-set on attending NYU if they get off the waitlist?
 
i think you folks are getting too optimistic, as if a waitlist is just a pending acceptance. prepare for the worst.
 
Got my $100 (or was it 120??) rejection letter today 🙂...that's sooooome expensive ink

agree. and by the looks of just SDN, a crap load of people are on the waitlist. im definitely not getting my hopes up...

i agree. i'm kind of surprised that so many of us on this thread were waitlisted. are we some sort of self selecting group? those on the edge are the most paranoid? who knows...

I think they waitlist all but a small minority of non-accepted applicants. If you look at mdapplicants you'll find that there are very few post interview rejections listed...
 
any post-interview rejections? fingers crossed i don't get one. does anyone know when the letters were actually sent out for waitlists - would i have received one by now?

I got mine today and I live like 30 minutes outside of NYC, so calm down!
 
Waitlist today through snail. Anyone know how much the waitlist moves at NYU?

waitlisted also. this is just ridiculous. has *anybody* been rejected *post-interview*? anyone?

if anybody cares, they can try to figure things out from last years nyu c/o 2010 thread. but given that everyone seems to be either accepted or waitlisted post-interview, i think it is sanest to assume the waitlist is just a prolonged rejection and nyu's methods of doing admissions are horribly sucky and misleading. what frickin school really *needs* this big of a waitlist???
 
Adding to the waitlist group... But I will be replying to confirm my removal from the waitlist. Really had a bad experience at NYU, and if I was going to move to NY (doubtful) I would much rather attend AECOM where I allready hold an acceptance.

I know that Pitt is even worse, I'm sure there are other schools that do it too. I think NYU needs a big waitlist because they don't interview all that many people, they end up needing to take a good number off the waitlist, and I bet that a lot of people aren't willing to wait it out until late may/june when they already have acceptances.

if other schools do this then that sux also.

the stats are that nyu ultimately rejects about half the people they interview. from this thread and the comment above, i speculate that about 80-90% of those post-interview that aren't accepted are waitlisted. that's a lot of waitlisters who are eventually going to just get a rejection in august, or worse, no response. i am *extremely* confident that there are plenty of people on the waitlist that nyu (1) doesn't really want to accept and (2) doesn't need to accept because there are so many other people on the waitlist that they do like. they do this because they can. the applicants suffer, not them.

I think most schools do this. I know its the case with WashU, Michigan, and Northwestern. For the first two though they at least give you some indication of your place on the list which gives you a good idea of your chances. A lot of medical schools actually think they're doing you a favor. I've often heard adcom members say that they are given to people who are too qualified to reject.

From the med school's point of view there is no reason not to waitlist qualified applicants. They lose nothing by waitlisting you and if something comes up they still have you as an option.
 
If it makes anyone feel better (or worse, I hope not), I got a 42 on the MCAT, was a non-traditional student, really got along with my interviewer, had an awesome GPA from Duke, and was put on the waitlist. On paper (and with the big size of NYU's class), it doesn't make sense. But there it is. I think if you really want to go there, you need to contact NYU right away and let them know.

I was rejected a couples of days ago post-interview. So everyone who was waitlisted can feel a little relieved. I knew I would be rejected because my interview was HORRIBLE. I had the option of doing a second one which may or may not (prob not) have helped but I wasn't able to do it because I was in the US for such a short time. Anyway, I cried during my interview and instead of excusing myself (I didn't think of it, or thought it would seem rude or like giving up), I stayed in the room and tried to stop. Only it wasn't very easy for me to regain my composure with my interviewer continuing to talk to me and ask me questions. I ended up blaming it on the fact that I was very tired not having gotten enough sleep and having done so many interviews in a short period of time (I had had two interviews at a different school that morning, I had another interview in another state the next day, I was leaving the country again the next day, etc...). Anyway so I screwed up my interview, but at least the people who got waitlisted know they didn't🙂

Waitlist here too. The letter got sent to my home and not my apt though. Can someone tell me what we need to do? I think my mom said something about sending a letter to remain on the waitlist?
 
So perusing mdapplicants.com (I didn't interview at NYU, so I'm not worried about getting post-interview anything).

Waitlist: 18
Acceptances: 24
(Roughly) Interviews: 95
That leaves roughly 42 unanswered NYU interviewers...

So does that mean they haven't responded to everyone post-interview? or a big chunk of those 95 are rejected?

lol. i think nyu should just attain the entire list of med school applicants from amcas, and waitlist everyone they don't want to reject. that would make this even more entertaining.

four more waitlists since last update. part of it is that ppl are going to take their time or never get around to updating their profile.

I'm one of the waitlisted ones, and I'm trying to figure out when people will start declining their acceptances to NYU. When does Columbia, Cornell, Harvard, etc send out their acceptances? Or has that already occurred?

Anyone?

Columbia and Harvard are sometime in March, I believe mid-March. I feel I have seen a few people with acceptances to Cornell already.

Columbia's acceptances go out on March 2, Harvard's around mid-March, and though Cornell gave out some December acceptances, the vast majority of their decisions come out in mid-March.
