im interviewing there in 2 weeks and was wondering if anyone here had any info on where to stay, what to look for, and places to visit... anyone whos interviewed there,.. what were your impressions? they seem pretty laid back about the interview--they scheduled it for 1pm... and told me to "try to get there before 11 if its convenient"... hopefully the interviewers have the same relaxed attitude, let me know what you think of NYU and its program...

Just curious, but when did your file become complete. I got the email notifying me of my "file complete" on 10/6 and still havent heard anything. Thanks for letting me know....

Oh yeah and also is notification done through snail mail or email??

Completion notification is by email & interview invite is by snail mail.

I got notification of complete app on 9/16, received snail mail interview invite on 10/27. They start interviewing on Nov. 1. Only school I know of that offers Saturday interviews.

Hope this helps.

Anyone else gonna be up there in mid-November?

i got completetion notification in a post-card Sept. 5th and then a letter 10/27. they seem to have ridiculously flexible interview scheduling, considering other schools that have ONE date and question if your not available... they allow interviews every weekday from Nov 1st to Feb 6th, and most saturdays too! anybody have opinions on how nyu may differ from other schools in the city-- (mt sinai, cornell, columbia) in terms of location, curriculum, people? thanks

locationwise only (for those who need to live it up during med school):

i think nyu is best over mt sinai, columbia and cornell - good restaurants, shopping, bars nearby, just a central location. think macy's july 4th celebration, that's where it is.

mt. sinai is okay, laid back, subway is convenient. cornell is in a great location, more quiet than the others and more family-oriented, lots of dogs.

and columbia has the worse location, waay uptown. getting there may frighten out-of-staters, but once you get out of the subway, it's fine. there is a free shuttle that brings you to morningside, which i use often.

overall, all of them have great hospitals.

but i'm kinda concerned that nyu's average age is 21. most people come right out of college?

Cool, I'll be there on either the 12th or 13th, depending on my schedule...

Ah, right, that's the Saturday interview. I chose to schedule earlier in the week because I wanted to get the full tour and see all the students in action while I was interviewing. The coordinator mentioned that it was much quieter on Saturday, so that could be a good or bad thing, depending on how you like it.

My application at NYU was completed in mid-sept, but I didn't get an interview invitation from them yet. What do you think this means? I'm starting to think they've rejected me but that they dont' send rejection letters out till later. 🙄

i wouldn't get too worried about nyu..i just got an invite (snail mail), but i was complete early/mid sept. they just have a large backlog, i'm sure.

is nyu rolling? i can't seem to find the answer

I called and asked. NYU is definitely rolling.

NYU is NOT rolling. In the school packet that I got at the interview, there is a card that says that they send out a few acceptances on Jan 15 and the bulk of them on Feb 15th.

Get there at 11 for the tour if you want. There was also a 1 o'clock tour and we got back by 2. They are quite laid-back. Easy interviews. They jumped to the front of the list for me.

Try to stay with someone in the city if you know anyone. Hotels can be expensive, and anyone who lives in the city could easily get you to NYU without any problem. I can't recommend any hotels or stuff like that because I've never stayed at them.

They have the best location of all the NYC medical schools (I live in Washington Heights and work next-door to Columbia med school, but it is a very boring area of the city. I'll be the first to admit that. You always have to use the subway or Columbia shuttle to get someplace fun, like Columbia's morningside campus or chinatown or stuff like that). I still have to visit Mt. Sinai and Cornell, but I know the areas and you can't beat NYU in terms of location.

Not necessarily true. At the interview, I asked the admissions director specifically about when we could expect to hear any correspondence from NYU. He said, "we're rolling anytime from now till February 15th." Even though they put the blurb about no acceptances before Jan. 15th, I think their admissions process is implicitly rolling.

I asked several of the 1st years and they all said that no one heard until Jan 15th( the early acceptances). My student guide heard Feb 15th but he was waitlisted and later got in.

I got my completion email on 10/1, and then a completion letter 10/20. I'm tempted to call them even though they say not to call or write asking about interviews.
