Current NYU students,

Does anyone have experience with or knowledge of the Kips Bay Court apartments near the school?

I am looking for a studio single, and was somewhat disappointed with the NYU dorms' availability of single studios. Likewise, I am investigating other options such as Kips Bay.

Any comments on the quality, price, etc. would be greatly appreciated, as well as other apartments in the adjacent area.

I know a few people that live there. It's not a bad building at all and the price is ok. The area is better than where the dorms are, but not by that much. It is close to the med school. The next block over is kinda sketchy at night time because it's so dead, but it's not a bad place to live at all. A lot of NYu dental students live there.
Another option is to look at Waterside Plaza. A Ton of dental students live there. The price is cheap, it's very close to school, but it's kinda out there. It's maybe a 6 minute walk, but you're not in main manhattan (eg, you can't walk outside your building and hail a cab, you have to walk over a bridge and onto the street, an avenue over and you can get one). Not sure how important that is to you?

Thanks for the info. I just checked out Waterside Plaza's website. For me, the ability to hail a cab or to be right 'in the midst of the city' isn't that important, as long as the place is fairly close to campus.

If you had to choose one, which would you go with - Waterside or Kips Bay?

What's the average $$$ per month for apartments around NYU?

In a heartbeat, I'd choose Kips Bay..
I just don't like walking so far to get a cab. Also, Waterside has way too many dental students and sometimes you just want to get away from the school atmosphere.

I share a 1 bedroom with my brother and pay about 1150 (including utilities) per month and we live about 10-15mins (walking) from the school. Rent around the school is pricey, the more north you go from the school the cheaper the rent. You may find one of the few gold mines and get away with a reasonably priced apt.

Best Wishes

I live in Peter Cooper Village through a random sublet I found on craigslist. Less than 2 minute walk from school (I literally can't get through 1 damn song on my iPod before I'm there). I pay 1400 for my own bedroom in a 2bdroom including all utilities + premium cable/internet. We have marble kitchen counter tops and bathroom. Very happy with the place.

I pay 1650 for my studio apartment...I live on the 8th floor of an elevator building..

 I've lived at kips bay for 2 years and will also stay another year. There are a few dental students that live in the buildings, the number is gradually increasing. When I first moved in, the building was subsidized housing, so many of the tenants were low income. But 2 years ago, it became privatized. And the prices went up, the security increased, and many renovations occurred. Our apt is brand new, we are the first people to live in it after renovations. Love it! Esp if you compare it to other apts for our price. We pay 2220 (1 bedroom and we converted living room to a bedroom). Utilities included, and we had gotten one month free rent when we signed. Prices have gone up, but so does everything in the world. Def better than waterside due to that chilly walk over the bridge late nights.

Anyone know how much the 3 bedroom apartment at Kips Bay goes for?

Thnx

The studios go for around $1800. The studios with alcove go for around $2000. The 1 bedrooms go for around $2300. I was there a couple weeks ago and asked...Everything is pretty brand new there...Very nice bathrooms and kitchen. I don't see any problems with roaches. These apartments were pretty pleasing to the eye!
