Fact: The UIC committee met last week and made decisions on applicants who, for the most part, interviewed in October.

Fact: I interviewed in October.

Fact: They send acceptances/rejections via regular mail, waitlists through email.

Fact: I have yet to receive a letter or email from UIC.

Possible scenario: It takes only a few short minutes to send an email. Since I have yet to receive said email, a letter must be on it's way. I have been either accepted by or rejected from UIC.

Possible scenario: They do not send their waitlist emails until the end of a review cycle. It is probable that the end of their cycle is today or early next week (they start intreview cycle 3 in December) and I will receive the email then. I have been waitlisted by UIC.

Possible scenario: The letter/email has been lost. I will never find out if I got accepted, rejected, or waitlisted by UIC.

The mind games are killing me...

You're not allowed to stress out until at least two weeks after you know the committee met - and hey, this is Thanksgiving, so give it three!

There, end of mind games!

no kidding rx,
ever since i read that post a week ago saying that the UIC adcom met, i've been expecting something to come every day. I wouldnt jump to the conclusion about the waitlist though, as far as i know, i havent seen anyone on this board who has recieved an acceptance from the second batch yet, so maybe they have just been slow in preparing our huge acceptance packets!!! Hopefully not much longer,i would have loved if one had came before turkey day, good luck

Mail just came...still nothing.

I have developed the skill of being able to hear the mail hit the mailbox from one floor away - I wonder if that's marketable?

If I were you, I'd give them a call and express your concern that your (hopefully acceptance)letter is missing. And it was your understanding that you should have received something from them by now. I don't think there's any harm in doing so. At least, that's what I'd do.
Best of Luck!!

rxfudd: I am sure you got in, so I would just say enjoy Thanksgiving and get back to worrying on Monday.

By the way, is there anyone else out there who are still waiting to here from UIC about interviews? I sent my stuff in over two months ago, and all they have told me is that I am "under review." Really weird considering I am in-state. Oh well, I guess I will just keep waiting.

starplayer: They actually told us (i.e. the interview group from Oct. 30) to wait until Dec. 1st to start calling - good idea, though.

shogun: Two months, eh? That's a little longer than it took to get my interview. I sent my secondary on Aug 28 and got my invite on Oct 5. I'd wait until after Thanksgiving and give another call. Good luck!

i've lived in illinois for most of my life, and the first time i applied, UIC never interviewed me at all. so state residency is still no guarantee of anything. besides, they'll be interviewing people all the way through april or so, so months may pass between when you turn in the secondary and when you get an interview, if you get one at all.

the thing with UIC (and the biggest drawback as far as me going there) is the fact they're incredibly disorganized. in the past, friends of mine who applied there would go for months without hearing anything from them regarding a decision, if at all. several years ago they didn't even bother to send out rejection letters--their assumption being, i guess, that the applicant would figure it out.

rx,
i called UIC (i didnt read your post about not calling till dec 1). they told me that i was not accepted (which hurts) and that i will be reconsidered the next month at the adcom meeting. They also said not to expect anything via mail or email confirming this, so that is why we havent been contacted. i'd imagine you could be in the same boat as me, you might want to give them a call, hope this isnt the case though, i cant stand this waiting any longer, another month is gonna kill me

Really sorry to hear that ludey - both for you and for me. I don't understand though - what's the difference between them waiting a month (or more?) and a waitlist? And if that IS the waitlist, shouldn't we get notification? And why did the people at UIC tell us to call if we haven't heard by Dec 1 if they never planned to let us know that we were being deferred/waitlisted/whatever this is?

I didn't get a chance to call, but I'm a bit worried that I'm in the same position as you. Has anyone gotten ANYTHING from UIC who interviewed after October 15th?

hi everybody
my very first post here...in spite of many hours spent reading.
just wanted to say, that in my humble opinion, your file probably wasn't reviewed this month...
my impression was (after reading some other thread) that the committee meets once a month to review that month's interviewees and seems like they met october 15th or so this time around which means they prolly didn't review your file...

Right, they meet around the 15th of every month. They have had two review sessions, one around Oct 15 and one around Nov 15. Everyone who interviewed before Nov 15 had their file reviewed, although it seems a decision is not necessarily made after the review.

duh. silly me. i thought it was october rite now. 😱
i should go to bed

hi, UIC already met and made decisions for this month. I was told by someone on the committee that UIC is going a little slower this year and they are putting a lot of people on hold so they can see all the applicants before offering to those borderline. The person I spoke with said this is different from a waitlist in that students on hold are still being considered. I figure that they will offer a lot more positions this next month or the following since there are no more applications coming in. So don't worry so much, if you don't hear in a month or two then you might want to start to get worried then, but until then, enjoy life and think happy thoughts.
