Sorry,

just have to rant.... my attending is so rude to his residents and treats them terribly.... I'm doing OB/GYN now and the hospital I'm at is SO disorganized. IT just sucks... patients (GYN patients) wait an average of 3-4 hours to be seen by a resident!!!!!!!!!! and thats on a good day! This surgery that we did today on this poor woman (a histocolonoscopy ... sorry sp is bad...) went downhill. First of all the attending was late by 1.5 hours, then the camera on the scope didn't work: there was this blurry black dot in the middle of the screen and it wouldn't focus... finally when they were able to get it focused the doctors couldn't see anything claiming the 'uterus' was too bloody... ofcourse this was AFTER they performed a D&C... WTF were they thinking.... they practically mutilated this woman's cervix to get in to the uterus and then messed up the operation..... all I can say is DO NOT GET SICK and don't EVER get surgery at a subpar hospital....

Many of the students that rotate with us are IMG's (not that there is anything wrong with that...) but many do things completely differently.

TO TOP IT OFF today right before we left... the main attending made an inappropriate 'racist' remark which I will not repeat here..... arghghghgh 5 more weeks... wish me luck

PEACE!

OB/GYN residents and attendings are generally not very happy people. My 6 weeks in OB/GYN was the longest 6 weeks of me life.

Please don't. If you wish to know contact the person privately.

I know where and whom you speak of since I experienced it last year. Get used to it, it becomes funny after a while. The patients at this place do get appropriate care, however. I wouldn't be so quick to judge it as subpar. I spent a great deal of time at the hospital in question...and I've learned a lot from the real hands on experience you get there.

I just finished OB/GYN. It has to be the worst job on Earth. Glad that nightmare is over. Hated the work. Hated the hours. And most of all, I hated my coworkers, who were perpetually irritable and took their frustrations out on medical students.

That's terrible. How do we, as patients, know if a hospital is subpar?

I wanna hear the attending's racist remark. Was it directed at the IMGs?

You can vent all you would like, especially if it makes you feel better. But I would be careful about how judgmental you are in terms of calling things subpar, making statements where you seem to be judging the care as deficient or "messed up". Statements like that can come back to cause issues, even on an anonymous message board.

What type of expertise do you have in performing these procedures?
How many of these procedures have you seen?
How many of these procedures have you done?
How many of these procedures have you assisted in?
Are you a licensed doctor?
Are you a licensed nurse?

Here's the question: would you HONESTLY send your mom/sister or wife there if she needed a hystorectomy or had (GOD forbid) ovarian cancer?

No seriously... would you? I highly doubt it....

histocolonoscopy

hystorectomy

1. What in the world is the first procedure? How does one access the uterus via the colon using a scope? (On second thought, I don't want to know the answer to that.)

2. You really should learn the correct names and spellings of procedures.

I believe the correct answers would be:

1. None

2. One

3. None

4. None

5. Please, dear God, I hope not.

here's a portion of a fun conversation with my gyn attending over a pt that I interviewed at his clinic today....

me: <movin' onto her past surgical history) she has a significant past surgical history of a hysterectomy....
attending interrupts: when was this done?
me: 17 years ago
attending: by what method?
me: well, the pt didn't know many details aside from the fact that she was told that there were no real complications during the procedure and that the pt had no probs since then
attending: at what hospital was this done?
me: XXX hospital
attending: who performed the surgery?
me: ummmm, i don't know. i didn't ask (this crap was 17 years ago!)
attending: you know, you really need to work on getting a better history

lol WTF?

The hospital in question has some great attendings, whether it's surgery, medicine, EM, peds, and OB/GYN. How do I know this? I spent an entire six weeks with many different attendings and saw the standard of care being met (not to mention the three other rotations I did there). Would I send my family there? As i said, there are very competent doctors there. Is it the best hospital in terms of resources? No...but again I continously saw the standard of care met...which is what each patient deserves. Don't be so quick to judge in your short career.

sure the doctors are competent. But many don't have adequate time for each patient and they ultimately don't get the best care. You still HAVN'T answered the question... WOULD you send your family member there who has (GOD forbid) endometrial/ovarian cancer.....?!?

I didn't think so.......

Bobblehead.... if I was a licenced doctor and NOT a student why would I post under clinical rotations... on this topic?!?! I don't feel like answering the rest of your questions... you sound like a tool.... but have an awsome day 🙂

PEACE 😍

Oh Fleeps, that is hilarious! Sorry to hear that.

ocean, i went ahead and merged the 2 versions of this thread (the one in allo and the one here) into one, i kept it in the clinical rotations forum for you. sdn only allows you to make 1 copy of a thread, its easier on you anyways since you dont have to switch back and forth. hope your OB/Gyn rotation gets better for you... or at least that the time passes quickly. 😉 :luck:

You'll do well in the rest of your clinical rotations.

I believe I did answer the question...reread what I wrote. If they are getting the standard of care then I would not have any problem having them treated there. If it wasn't met, then I would have them go elsewhere. This applies to ANY hospital, though.
