I had originally jumped onto someone else's related thread and asked this question, but I am hoping to get more ideas/responses by making it its own thread.
I am HPSP, clinical psychology. I know most of you are MD's, but I am thinking the answer should be about the same.
Just for background--Clinical psych is a 5 year program, with the 5th year being internship. That 5th year is the year you go back on active duty and start your payback.
So, you match in February of the 4th year (for HPSP clinical psych the likelihood of getting the military site you want is about 100%). So it is safe to say that the "Match" for us really means "which of the 5 Army internships will I get?"
At that point, you know where it will be.
At the end of the 4th year (around May/June) you head off to OBC at Ft. Sam TDY En Route to whereever your internship will be.
Here is the problem--I am married, have a 5th grader step son and I do not know when I supposed to move them.
Do I chose based on what is convenient for me? Or is there is a policy. My wife is pretty nervous about all this because she has never dealt with the military before. Being prior service, I am a little more used to it and I don't really care what they want us to do. Her points are:
Move before OBC--first time away from home, no husband around who can help/support (because he will be immediately gone to OBC).
Move after OBC (Stay where they are until I get back)--will we have time to get our son into school? Don't want him to start late, especially as the "new kid."
Anyone here who can wade through this?
