Im currently an obg resident (starting my second year) in europe and my husband might need to relocate to the states so im looking into the American residency program.
Can someone enlighten me the hours, how many are you on call in a month...
Our program takes 6 yrs and we work on a regular day 8 hrs and we are 6 times in a month on call.

Im not a resident, but, having worked closely with residents..
They were on 6-6 (at the very least, sometimes more) 5-6 days of the week.
They did a month of night float (5p-8a kind of thing).
You are capped at 80 hours a week.
Not sure about call, but I imagine this varies greatly per program.

You will rarely be doing a 9-5 day in residency in the US.
 
Because duty hour restrictions, there’s less 24 hour calls. Night float is who takes calls/admissions/consults/emergent procedures at night.

You are asking the wrong questions. Residencies in the US are very competitive for foreign medical graduates. Duty hours really is the least of your concern.
 
Thats not what is going to decide if im going to apply but i want to be prepared for the challenge!
