observant jews and havard plastics program

i just looked at the havard plastics residency program and there its written that they invite candidates for intvies from friday afternoon to saturday morning.
my question : what do observant jews do ? they wouldnt be able to apply to this program , no ?
what about the informal dinner ? i dont think they will serve anything which is consider kosher. this would make a bad impression on the prgram director , no😱?

Tough problem, but the fact is that if you're an observant Jew, you're going to have to reconcile working on Friday night and Saturday with your beliefs. I'd chalk it up to being part of your job to go and interview too, but I've developed some rather flexible ways to handle my own religious views with my work-induced lifestyle.

While I have no idea how the dinner is setup, I know for the sake of business interviews you are supposed to eat before hand and simply graze a bit. Kosher at functions like that is tough, because you have no idea how the food has been prepared sometimes. Just keep it to certain things you know are safe. I have a hard time believing you'd be the first person remaining kosher to set foot there.

The whole Sabbath thing will be tough, but it is difficult anyway. You are probably going to have to make some concessions. I hope that G-d wouldn't frown upon you helping people. It is tough though. Best of luck. You could call and ask the residency people, or who are setting up the dinner as well. My good friend that stays Kosher tries to contact every place she goes to before hand...

About Sabbath interview days, I know an orthodox Plastics attending who had the same issues when applying and as per his LOR (local orthodox rabbi) went to interview... so first off contact your LOR.
