I'm looking for input on what parts of first semester ochem are important for second semester. I start ochem II in a couple weeks. I took the first semester a couple years at a different university and I want to brush up on what I will really need for second semester. I'm assuming NMR is important, anything else? The real basic concepts I remember like resonance and orbitals I remember. Advice appreciated!!

Second semester is typically straight reactions. Depending on how its taught at your school, doing well may involve memorizing a large number of reactions, or learning the nuts and bolts of which rxns are Sn1, Sn2, sterically hindered, et....and then deducing which products can be formed/will be formed. Where I took it, the exams were only about predicting products with some synthesis questions, so memmorization was the way to go. In this latter method, very little of Orgo I is really needed. In fact, you could argue that Orgo II could be taken w/o having attempted Orgo I.

PS NMR and Spectroscopic data is very important. You will have to memorize tons of shifts.
