unfortunately, i don't know any ODs and since a LoR from an optometrist is required, how did u guys manage to get to know an OD and ask for a recommendation? do the ODs assume that you just want to shadow once? should i make it clear that i want to do it for a period of time? i mean, i don't want them to feel obligated. i was referred to a few, but I'm a little nervous as to how i should go about asking for the opportunity to volunteer/shadow. when you guys did volunteering/shadowing, how long did you volunteer/shadow for each OD? how long did u shadow for the OD that wrote your LoR and how did you ask? for those that shadowed/volunteered for a hospital OD, did you have to apply for it the same way as a regular hospital volunteer or did you personally contact the OD? wow sorry about all the questions 🙂. maybe i'm worrying too much... anyways, any help and advice would be much appreciated. thanks~! 😀

OD's are just regular people. Give one a call at their office and ask to speak to Dr. XXX about possible shadowing him/her. Most won't have a problem with it, in fact, most I know get excited. If you are a little nervous, get an eye exam, while you are there ask the doctor.
