twelve. the answer is twelve. everyone else is wrong.

Are programs able to see the number of programs you apply to through the ERAS system?

i applied to 12, got interviews at 10, and went to 6 interviews.

no they cant see how many progs you apply to.

Are you vietnamese? Which program did you apply to and wehre did you end up?
What if my scores are barely passing ....so 30 DO/MD programs would sound about right??? 😉

DO 2006

My dept chair says 12, but I had another person who is writing one of my LORs say 20 to 25 would be fine if you are applying to a lot of competative programs. It just depends on how flexible your schedule is during interview season and how much you can afford.

I'm a US allopathic grad who's applying to 38. Paranoid? Maybe. 😀
But I really want to be a great OB/GYN with a solid education, and I may want a fellowship.
More info to mull over:
I'm an average student at a great school with below average step I in a type A overachiever world.
The programs I'm applying to range from those who will most likely laugh at my application (UCLA, UCSD - to err is human to give humor - divine) to solid community programs who may not. I just slapped that big ol' fee on the credit card cause, hey adding a few hundred dollars to the enormous debt just doesn't seem like such a big deal anymore. 😉 Oh yeah, and it's a mileage card - I'm saving up those miles...come on Hawaii!

I saw somewhere (FREIDA or Iserson's getting into a residency maybe) that the average number of programs in ob/gyn people apply to is 19.4 or something like that. I applied to 19. My application looks pretty solid, so I applied to a few reaches. California is tough to crack if you're not from there and I'm also a DO student and not all programs are DO-friendly. 19-20 seemed like a good number to me. Better to be on the safe side, ya know?

i applied to 40. but, i am an IMG with crappy step 1 scores, and i am applying to a lot of those CA programs.

is anyone getting invites from anywhere in CA yet? i haven't really heard of any...

Hey Kadyra,

I am a DO student as well!!!

community : )

So, I am very paraniod. I applied to 45 programs. I am a DO student with only COMLEX scores. I figured better safe than scramble. So far, I have 8 interview offers. I hope to get 15. We shall see though.

I applied to too many probably, we were given this advice (allopathic school)

if you're top 1/3 of your class : 10-15
If middle 1/3: 15-20
If bottom 1/3: 20-30

Of course I didn't follow it and forked over the cash!!
