I'm laughing at the idea of getting into more than one school and having a choice!

If you were confused by my post on LLIPPY's thread about Western, I was considering there to apply this fall and am wavering in that decision, that's all.

So, the answer is... hopefully, SOME school will be the lucky one, this time next year. (Since me and Nyan are the only two regulars that DIDN'T get into vet school this year, lol. 😉 Not that I'd prefer it any other way.)

ETA: And neither of us applied... in case that wasn't clear... we both took a year to improve our apps, her more so than me (MS).
 
I just got the acceptance e-mail from CSU. Since I am very pleased to be going to Davis, I hope someone here gets to enjoy that spot. Good luck everyone!
 
does anyone know if getting accepted off the alternate list will affect any scholarships incoming first year students receive?
 
CSU offered me one off of the waitlist. It is a bit smaller then the one I am getting form Davis, where I was accepted normally, but not significantly.

Definitely not. Scholarships only apply to your performance in vet school.
 
I was offered a position from the waitlist yesterday 4/29. I declined it today! Good Luck for those waiting!!!!

Wait you got a scholarship? I was under the impression that vet schools didn't offer scholarships.

And if you got a scholarship after being on the WAITLIST... wouldn't that imply that they gave scholarships to all the people ranked above you (i.e. everybody that they accepted)?

They may be need based. i know at Tufts, it's all based on need (until a couple that are specific interest based for upper classmen in the vet school). However, if you are accepted off the waitlist all the scholarship/grant money may have been given to other members of the class, so you may not receive any. It's a wierd complicated process, but there are a couple of scholarships out there.

For the most part, i find they are need based over merit based. But this could be only the schools i've really looked at. CSU may be totally different, i applied there but didn't look into their financial aid programs.

You're probably thinking of Penn 🙁 which does not give much in the way of scholarships. I think it totally depends on the school, although in general I think you are right that it's not like undergrad where you can get full rides, unless you want to do VMD/PhD.
 
My CSU acceptance also came with a scholarship. Maybe it is something they do to try and entice out-of-state students. Compared to the overall cost of attendance the scholarship wasn't a lot of money (2,000) but it sure does help!!!

Idk, both of the girls I'm friends with that will be in my class were offered $5,000/year by Penn... makes me think I should have applied to more than one school, so they'd maybe feel the need to "woo" me 🙄
 
hmm maybe there are need based qualifications? i know that how tufts does it, and the only way I'm able to somewhat afford going there... i don't know much about penn though, so i could be VERY wrong... but once you've complete freshman year, you may be elligible for more scholarships...

Nope not need based, one of the girls' parents is paying for her tuition and living expenses outright. It's an incentive to choose Penn over other schools

And yep, many more scholarship options after first year 🙂 now I just need to make sure I do well enough to be eligible for them!

Well, I called ISU for an update and they are at #82 already. Turns out I am #92, and I was told they have "at least one spot" still open, which I really hope means that there's a couple seats left. It's gonna be a close one!

So I just found out that I have been offered a position to LSU. I've been on their waitlist for a while. I will be declining the offer since I have been accepted into CSU's Vet Prep program and will be in their class of 2014.

Wow, second cycle has been a charm. All that doubt and fear that I couldn't compete with all the high GPA and GRE applicants, has been for nothing.

Thanks, LLippy!! Yeah, I just couldn't bring myself to visit the ol' SDN after getting waitlisted (and see all of the "I-got-in!! threads). In fact, I was trying to study at home, but instead having a pity party over the crap job it seemed I was condemned to for all eternity when my cell phone rang and its ID read "Tennessee." I still can't really believe it. And yes, of course I'm going! I can't wait!! Yay!! 😀

Just to let people know-Ohio State's waitlist is still moving. They contacted my Monday (#26 OOS), and I declined.

Thanks! 😍 She's my snooty little renal failure diabetic. I could possibly claim her as himalayan-ish, but in reality, she's the offspring of a feral Alabama momma. She's got a primo bloodline!
