Hello everyone! Because I am completely obsessed and am on a waitlist myself, I thought it may be a good thread to start...it will be nice to see the waitlists moving...😛
So, how does this work? On April 16th they start contacting the waitlisted people? Hopefully this list will grow and grow with finally successful alternates!
I don't know if this is the way it works everywhere, but at UGA, April 16th is the deadline for returning everyone's "I accept to be accepted/waitlisted" forms. Then they can give us an exact number of where we stand. I have several friends that were pulled off the waitlist and accepted at UGA, and when they were told varies from May-just after classes started 😱 Although I would be excited to start in the fall, regardless of the conditions, I would prefer not to be the lucky fellow to start AFTER the first day of class! 😀
So veggirl, (being on the waitlist myself at UGA), will they disclose an applicant's position on the waitlist after April 16th? I know some schools (like Florida) won't disclose such info.
Yeah - they will tell you exactly what number you are after April 16th. I know this is the case for instate anyways...I would only guess this is true for OOS too.
Btw, its nice to have you on here, MSP. If you are IS, then I believe you and I are the only UGA IS waitlists on the forum! Welcome! 😀
Thanks for the welcome !!! Actually, I'm OOS (Florida actually.) Either way, I guess we'll have to wait until April 16th. So any idea on how long the wait list is and how many applicants do they USUALLY take from the list?
is there a difference between a waiting list or being an alternate? I know this may be a dumb question 😕

I think that if the school puts you an a waitlist it means that that school ranks the alternate applicants. Whereas other schools place all alternates in a "pool" where each alternate has an equal chance of filling an available seat. This is just my understanding from what I've heard from various schools...but yes, in essence they are both the same thing🙂

UGA has graciously granted my request for a one-year deferral, so that should free up one more IS spot in the Class of 2012. Good luck!![]()
If all alternates have an equal chance, how do they select among them? Is there a reason why they would rather not have or give ranking information?
I think each schools process is different. I have heard that some schools with pool style alternates try to replace people that deny admission with a similar applicant to keep the diversity the same within the entering class. I have also heard that the adcom are willing to take into account new experiences for the current semester ie if you racked 1000 more hours of vet experience, then they will take that into account when looking at who they offer the open spot.
I think the best thing to do is call the school with a prepared list of questions and ask them to explain their process to you.
How does the process usually work with updating your experience and notifying the adcom.? Is it as simple as a phone call or is there a form to fill out, etc.? (I never knew schools allowed applicants to do this.)
What is so magical about this day? I thought the day should be May 15. Also, what schools are people hoping to get off of the waitlist for?
for anyone who is on the cornell alternate list (OOS) here's some inside information...they are making phone calls. good luck.
9 more agonizing days to go!!Then we get to wait some more! 🙄 I used to consider myself a very patient gal, but now, not so much! 😳
So if accepted applicants need to tell them by 4/15 does that mean we move starting 4/15 or 4/16?

It depends on the school...some of them call as they are notified of a student declining acceptance. I researched threads from previous years and often many people were notified between the 18th and the 30th of April. After that the rate slows down to a few over the summer and just before the semester starts.
I spoke with the adcom for my school and they told me that they wont start calling for about a week after the deadline and that I should call on the 21st for information on how much the list has moved.
If I were you I would call your school and find out what they are willing to tell you.
PS Is your school notify by 15th or post mark 15th
Ugh! I hate this waiting!! Carrbear, you will have to post RIGHT AWAY if you get a call/letter that you are in. I know you are #1 and I am #6, so if you get in it means I am closer to getting in too!! 😀
I think we all need some closure.
Anyone hear news about the Tufts alternate list? I was reading last years thread and it said that most people got off it!
I hope it happens again ... 😳
