Hello everyone! Because I am completely obsessed and am on a waitlist myself, I thought it may be a good thread to start...it will be nice to see the waitlists moving...😛

I am very nervous....I wish April 15th was already here!

I need something to do besides obsessing about what I should have done different.😳
So, how does this work? On April 16th they start contacting the waitlisted people? Hopefully this list will grow and grow with finally successful alternates!

I don't know if this is the way it works everywhere, but at UGA, April 16th is the deadline for returning everyone's "I accept to be accepted/waitlisted" forms. Then they can give us an exact number of where we stand. I have several friends that were pulled off the waitlist and accepted at UGA, and when they were told varies from May-just after classes started 😱 Although I would be excited to start in the fall, regardless of the conditions, I would prefer not to be the lucky fellow to start AFTER the first day of class! 😀

By the way....GREAT thread to start! I can't wait until we get to start posting exciting news on here!! :hardy:

I hope I'll be able to post some good news in this thread over the summer! 😳

The school that I am on a waitlist for says that acceptances must be postmarked by April 15th. I have been combing through past years on this forum for information about when people got off the waitlist. Its seems to be a pattern that makes sense...many peopl come off between April 17 to the 25th or so and than a few more around May, June and then sometimes one really close to the beginning of school.

I am very fortunate that the school I am waitlisted on ranks their list and when I call they will tell me if my position has changed. I have only called once about two weeks ago and no one had come off the list which she said wasn't an indicator of anything😀 (yeah I asked).

I also continue to look at the facebook group associated with the class I would get into if I got off list...74 members so more than half and I am sure there are plenty of people that aren't on facebook so I am less hopeful.

I will definately post any good news I hear.

just like "Bueller....Bueller...Bueller..."!

I feel like all we did was wait and now we're STILL waiting!!! Here's hoping for us all!:luck::luck:

So veggirl, (being on the waitlist myself at UGA), will they disclose an applicant's position on the waitlist after April 16th? I know some schools (like Florida) won't disclose such info.

Yeah - they will tell you exactly what number you are after April 16th. I know this is the case for instate anyways...I would only guess this is true for OOS too.

Btw, its nice to have you on here, MSP. If you are IS, then I believe you and I are the only UGA IS waitlists on the forum! Welcome! 😀

Thanks for the welcome !!! Actually, I'm OOS (Florida actually.) Either way, I guess we'll have to wait until April 16th. So any idea on how long the wait list is and how many applicants do they USUALLY take from the list?

Have no idea about OOS. I know a few people OOS that has declined waitlist though already, so you will probably move up fairly quickly. There are 19 IS waitlisters, but I believe there are a lot more for OOS. 😕 Good luck to you! PM me if you want any more details....I will try to answer whatever I can.

I'm on the waitlist for university of missouri, i can't wait til april 16th comes... i just e-mailed them and asked if there was any update in the waitlist and she said no changes as of yet.... so i'm a lil nervous

Anyone else waiting to hear from CSU? I am dying to hear from them! Just a couple more weeks, everyone!

I am on the alternate list for oregon state(OS) and tufts(IS), and I am terrified that I won't get in. I am planning for the worst, hoping for the best. Both schools say that there is no order to the waiting list. Tufts says that they don't do that because people update their records (more classes, more experience) throughout the spring so they don't sit down to order the list until after the April 15th deadline.

I have noticed through the other threads that a lot of people have declined their acceptances and altenate positions to Oregon State, but who knows how many extra people were accepted OS, and how many are on the waitlist..

my parents and friends have nicknamed me the cusper.

is there a difference between a waiting list or being an alternate? I know this may be a dumb question 😕

Nope, same difference. 🙂

I guess this is sort of a double post, but for the people that don't read every thread like I do 😛...

Tomorrow I am mailing out my forms to decline offers at Kansas State (OOS), Iowa State (OOS), University of Wisconsin (OOS), and Virginia-Maryland (IS). I hope this helps out some of you awesome folks on waitlists. :luck::luck:

I think that if the school puts you an a waitlist it means that that school ranks the alternate applicants. Whereas other schools place all alternates in a "pool" where each alternate has an equal chance of filling an available seat. This is just my understanding from what I've heard from various schools...but yes, in essence they are both the same thing🙂

If all alternates have an equal chance, how do they select among them? Is there a reason why they would rather not have or give ranking information?

I'm not sure this is true, or true for all schools. I was just given alternate status for Penn and when I asked information on how this process worked, Ms. Herpen explained to me that after their April 11 deadline (for alternates) they will rank the alternates and could let me know my rank sometime by the end of april. So at least for Penn the alternate status seems fairly similar to a waitlist!

UGA has graciously granted my request for a one-year deferral, so that should free up one more IS spot in the Class of 2012. Good luck! :luck:

YAY!!!! I love you, SpayLady!!! I hope that your deferral makes for a much better situation for you, and am also very thankful to you for opening up a spot for IS!!! 😍

See Veggirl...it could happen!! Spaylady...Im so happy for you...But does that mean your not going to be able to organize the "Let LVT2DVM into UGA" campus campaign this year? DARN!

I think each schools process is different. I have heard that some schools with pool style alternates try to replace people that deny admission with a similar applicant to keep the diversity the same within the entering class. I have also heard that the adcom are willing to take into account new experiences for the current semester ie if you racked 1000 more hours of vet experience, then they will take that into account when looking at who they offer the open spot.

I think the best thing to do is call the school with a prepared list of questions and ask them to explain their process to you.

How does the process usually work with updating your experience and notifying the adcom.? Is it as simple as a phone call or is there a form to fill out, etc.? (I never knew schools allowed applicants to do this.)

I updated the schools I'd applied to around the December time frame because I'd gotten a new job that was very exciting and relevant. To do this, I called each admissions department/office of the dean to see if they would allow me to provide them with an update. All but Colorado said, sure, fine. Then I asked them how they wanted me to send them the update. They all indicated that I should email what I had to say to them and they'd insert my email into my application file.

But I'd still call each school and ask them how they want you to approach this to be sure.

What is so magical about this day? I thought the day should be May 15. Also, what schools are people hoping to get off of the waitlist for?

I am on Auburn's. It's my dream to go there. April 15th is our deadline too. At least all the school's make people decide about the same time cause if not people may not get a chance at the school they want. Eventhough I have a friend that was alternate for auburn and got called a week before classes start. The waiting games sucks!!!

That's the day that all the schools require you to make your decision of whether or not you are accepting or declining your admissions. So after that day, they know how big their class is and start working on the waitlist.

9 more agonizing days to go!! :scared: Then we get to wait some more! 🙄 I used to consider myself a very patient gal, but now, not so much! 😳

for anyone who is on the cornell alternate list (OOS) here's some inside information...they are making phone calls. good luck.

Just OOS? What about residents?

Haha - unless the lists I'm on move pretty rapidly, I'll be waiting a lot longer than 9 more days (even with the "some more")! Iowa told me to see where they are on the OOS list around June to determine if I should re-apply or not. Illinois said that I probably didn't have a good chance this year. So, we'll see! Good luck to everyone on wait-lists over the summer! :luck:

So if accepted applicants need to tell them by 4/15 does that mean we move starting 4/15 or 4/16?

So if accepted applicants need to tell them by 4/15 does that mean we move starting 4/15 or 4/16?

It depends on the school and how good the applicants are at getting things in on time. Most schools will follow up with accepted applicants that haven't sent info in before looking to the waitlists.

Also, many schools accept more people than they have seats available knowing that every year a certain amount decline acceptance. Depending on whether schools do this will determine how many waitlist seats they go through and how quickly they can inform people.

Hi ri23 - Do you have any idea how far the OSU waitlist moved last year?

So if accepted applicants need to tell them by 4/15 does that mean we move starting 4/15 or 4/16?

It depends on the school...some of them call as they are notified of a student declining acceptance. I researched threads from previous years and often many people were notified between the 18th and the 30th of April. After that the rate slows down to a few over the summer and just before the semester starts.

I spoke with the adcom for my school and they told me that they wont start calling for about a week after the deadline and that I should call on the 21st for information on how much the list has moved.

If I were you I would call your school and find out what they are willing to tell you.

PS Is your school notify by 15th or post mark 15th

Thanks for the info. I'm not sure if they are notify or post mark by the 15th... that IS different! I've waited this long what's another week, right? 😆

Ugh! I hate this waiting!! Carrbear, you will have to post RIGHT AWAY if you get a call/letter that you are in. I know you are #1 and I am #6, so if you get in it means I am closer to getting in too!! 😀

OF COURSE I'll post right away! I don't know what to expect. We just started looking at houses so hopefully I get in 😉!!!

I rejected Iowa and Edinburgh! Goodluck waitlisties....

I get to be the first to post with this thread that I was accepted off of a waitlist! I'm going to NCSU, and will graduate in May, but now I get to spend 4 more years in Raleigh. Good luck to everyone else on waitlists!

Congratulations! :hardy:

Only four more days 'til 4/15...

I think we all need some closure.

I think we all need some closure.

Seriously! I need to know if I'm moving to Iowa or Boston at the end of this summer, and I'd like to know sooner than later! Iowa if I get in off the wait-list and Boston to get a laboratory job and move in with my bf for the next year. My life for the fall is still up in the air! 😕

And mucho congrats, sousamagic! :hardy:

Anyone hear news about the Tufts alternate list? I was reading last years thread and it said that most people got off it!

I hope it happens again ... 😳

So did you decide not to go to UPenn? Your title thingie under your name changed and it sounds like now you're hoping to get into Tufts.

Sorry, I'm just nosy. 🙂

I sent in my letter declining my acceptance at csu yesterday. Good luck to all on the waitlists. I hope this helps someone.🙂
