Which leads me to doubt that you were actually accepted! If you'd been to UOP, you'd know that the school was only a 3-yr program. If your whole purpose of making posts is to be a fool, then you've accomplished your goal. Do us all a favor and go lurk somewhere else.

YEAH .....long story about the 16s...basically I didnt think i had a shot until i got the interview invite. UOPs definetely a high DAT avg school, but with a 4.0 and a 25 PAT, they like me alot

But don't you love it when you see the post in the interview thread of the acceptance thread that says something like "adding BU" or "add me to UCSF"... but they dont actually add their name to the list? I am guilty of posting my acceptance but not adding myself to the list 😳 But let me offer my excuse 🙂 I am kind of a ***** when it comes to the "keeping things bolded " issue...and the "accidentally erasing someone from the list" issue...and I am terrified of messing this up and being attacked later. Well, "terrifed" is somewhat of a hyperbole....But anyway, so I figured I'd let someone else add me (and I knew someone would).

I'm just saying that you can't believe everyone that posts on here, especially when they have 0+ posts and have been a member since October 2004. Do you really believe that pacific would accept someone with these DAT scores:

Biology 16
General Chemistry 14
Organic Chemistry 15
Reading Comp 19
Quant Reasoning 16
Academic Average 16
Perceptual Ability 16

I for one don't believe him. Even if he is from Duke and has a 4.0. Sorry KaryoKinesis, maybe you are legit but your story is very hard to believe. If it's true, good luck at UOP!

True. On later post, he says his PAT was a 25. But if he is indeed a double major in biochem and physics at Duke with a 4.0, then there's a good chance that he's a pretty smart dude. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.

I believe UOP has a 16 minimum on any DAT score, so those 14/15s will disqualify him.

Thanks for pointing things out about Karyokinesis. However, I think we should leave him alone. Maybe in a desperate need, with a desire to feel good like other people who got accepted on Dec 1, he made up his story. And to me, I honestly don't care about that because he knows his true situation. So in the midst of happiness that many SDNers received their wishes, let him have a little fun too, would you agree?

i know that schools always accept at least 50 people more than they take because not everyone decides to go there.. but what if a school has a class size of 70, and accepted 120 and by some chance, 110 had their school as their first choice and accept it.. what happens then? do schools tell you nevermind, our class is full?

lol i just had this discussion with my mom last night - she didn't believe that all schools accept more applicants than they actually have spots, and i found i couldn't explain it to her satisfaction... how do they do it? 😕

well as far as the odds goes thats not very likely, but if it did happen the numbers would be a lot closer like 70 seats and 75 deposits. in this case i think its first come first serve and then the remainder get an offer for the following year or they would have to make space for the few extras.

Remember we are dealing with rolling addmissions. If a school accepts 120 students for 70 spots it is over the course of the whole cycle. No school will send out 120 invites on day one. The max they will send out is the # of spots available, so 70. The tell these applicants that they need to put a deposit down by Dec 29th. Say they receive 35 deposits so now they have 35 filled and 35 open seats. So on Jan 1st they send out 35 acceptance letters and say by Feb 1st you need to send us money. At this point 20 send in money. Now the school has filled 55 of its spots. It then on Feb 1st sends out 15 more acceptance letters for a grand total of 120. This time all 15 say yes and you have a filled class of 70 students with 120 acceptance letters having been sent out.

Dr. Simonsen at Arizona said the typical number when everything is said and done is about a 3:1 ratio of acceptances sent to spots filled. That may not be accurate for all schools (he said Arizona wasn't that way), but pretty close. With a rolling admissions that seems about right.
