I"ll be happy at any of the above - I have family in the northeast.🙂

Good luck to all!! 😍
Thanks for all the great posts through the season😛

So, does the magic computer already know where we are going? Or, if we should find some broken glass and an empty bathtub.

looks like LAC-USC just tied Indy with 4 folks who ranked it #1 😱 :scared:

CORRECTION: Indy has now re-tied with Cincy for SIX #1s. Boy if your knees weren't shakin' before....:scared: Can't WAIT until March 15th!!!!!

My dean told us that the computer had it done the first day. They're just farting around with statistics and stuff now.

I wonder if $20 at a psychic could aleveiate the anxiety?

This is what kills me. You'd think someone would realize..."hey, the applicants are probably making diamonds as we sit here and play with statistics. Let's give them the results and then run the stats." Instead, we have to sit and endure another 20 days while the results sit in a computer. This waiting is worse than I thought.

It's more than just stats. The match is run several times to ensure consistency.

Oh I understand that. But considering we're being told it takes minutes to run the algorthim, how long does it really take to rerun it multiple times? I doubt it takes more than a few days to do this. But, I could be wrong.

1. UCLA/Harbor 🙂
2. Carolinas 🙂
3. BIDMC 🙂
4. Brown 🙂
5. Orlando 😳
6. Georgetown 😳
7. Maine 😳
8. UTSW 🙁
9. UConn 🙁
10. Yale 🙁

I loved the top 4. Brown got bumped to the bottom of these because it's 4 years. The BI doesn't seem to be as strong clinically as the other 2. UCLA = Carolinas in my book, but won out for location as the SO would have more job opportunities in LA.

5-8 all blurred together, they changed daily, and my ranking has no rime or reason with the exception of Maine. It should have been much higher (top tier, in fact), but I was worried that the SO couldn't get a job in Portland.

The UTSW residents seemed overworked and I do not like Dallas. I got a bad vibe from the PD at UConn and a bad vibe from the residents at Yale.

Good luck, everybody

I heard there's a consortium of the most powerful PD's across the country. Each member of the consortium has veto over the match results. They read the match results and keep tweaking the forumla until it gets a set of reasults that is amenable to each of them.

That makes much more sense. I knew there was a reason! 👍

Hmm... that sounds exactly like what I did with my spreadsheet scoring each of the programs where I interviewed. So much for objectivity.

Please tell me that you were just kidding about the most powerful group of PDs :meanie: vetoing our Match results....😱
And stop laughing at my post too 😎

Wow we really need something to entertain us for the next 20 days to keep us from our own thoughts! Isn't there anything exciting left to talk about in this forum?

...I wasn't a believer until I received an email from "the consortium" telling me where I was ranked by all of the residencies I ranked.

Wouldn't that be nice?

Just doing a little math. If 6 of 64 posters have Indy as number one = 9.4%. Times that by 1200 applicants to EM and you get 112.5 applicants with Indy as there number one pick. . .and only 17 spots!

Of course, SDN might be somewhat of a confounding variable. Plus, I don't think Indy interviewed that many applicants total and obviously there are several other posters with Indy lower down on their rank list. I'm just trying to have a little fun.

Yeah SDN is a sampling error... way too many EM fanatics on here! We should start a pool as too how many people on SDN get into Indy and/or Cinci... I bet 7. Way more than the applicants from 'traditional' medical schools alone

+pissed+

It pains me to know that some 4-eyed, skinny, long-haired statistician, who is reading his comics and watching anime, knows where we matched because he ran the match algorithm in the background while playing World of Warcraft for the 104493th straight hour.

I'm tempted to break into my school the day before match day so that I can know one day sooner than anyone else.

I would like to know, how does everyone else's school do it? At our school, everyone gets called up to get their envelope, and then we all open them at the exact same time. Well, everyone else will. I'm just going to start opening mine when I walk back to my seat.

Our school is being lame. They're having breakfast from 9-10, followed by a speech from our deans, graduation info, class announcements from 10-11 and then we get our envelopes to open together. I really don't think I'm going to want to eat, or listen to anything anyone has to say. As for waiting for everyone to get their envelope...I don't want to but I just hope I'm one of the last ones to get it so time doesn't come to a stand still.

19 more days of this crap is pissing me off!

Our school has some pre-game festivities as well. We have a brunch about 1030 (some will get liquored up, I'll probably be too nervous) and then speeches, slideshows, etc. until noon. At noon, our dean begins randomly calling people's names out to the podium (while music is blaring) and you are handed an envelope to open whenever you want. It's a pretty festive, crazy atmosphere. Oh yeah, as you get called down you put a dollar into a fishbowl--the last person called gets to have all the money in the fishbowl. Last year, some guy who military matched and found out like two months earlier where he matched, won it. Kind of anti-climactic, but seems like a fun experience.

Yeah, the fishbowl idea is done at some other schools. I suggested it this year, and was met with a "we don't do it that way" idea. Because doing it the same way is always the best.

Oh come on Will...I know after all these years you can wait a few extra minutes to do it all at once🙂 It will be the most nerve raking experience and everyone will experience at once.... The sad part is we know some one is going to be disappointed (I hope its no one we know)

ps. My house, for now, is thinking about skipping the breakfast and just showing up at 10, they start passing out envelopes at 11 that's not too bad 🙂

Unless they changed it will last yr they divied us up into 4 groups by last name and then they call last names (which are mixed). Then you can open them as you get them. They have food but it sucks and the speeches are silly as hell. Really it is just a time to hang with friends and such. We bought a bunch of champagne and when we were done my close friends were drinking $250 a bottle champagne out of styrofoam cups.. Classy as hell! It was cool though cause then we went out in downtown chicago and watched college bball!

Oh people will be crying it happened last yr. The good thing is the dreaded "you did not match" stuff happens 2-3 days prior to that..

We get called up to a stage where we get the envelope and we read it out to the crowd. We do the fish bowl money collection too.

In many ways, I hate how it's done because a person's anger/embarassment at not matching at a top place on their list is on display for all to see. People do cry when they don't match high on their list. Reportedly, the local media is there to cover it so they may be there to capture the sad moments with the match so the whole city can see 😱 .

i'm sorry to hear that about various match days... ours is good, i think. itinerary:

8 am: pre-drink house party, bellinis and what not.
10 am: match day festivities begin... theme party, everyone dresses up, with slideshow pics showing, music blaring, the entire room decorated to the max with the "theme," each person gets introduced and given an envelope. friends and family are present, as many faculty as can make it show up, and at the noonish time, everyone opens up their envelope at the same time (as at the same time, everyone else gets the full match list sheet)...
1 pm: party at a local bar, free booze and food. good times

My match day: 8am work until 12 noon when I check the computer and then lunch until 1pm work until 5pm. Yeah, I don't even get the day off!

AND I don't gradutate until June 10th. Rotations end June 1st. What kind of crap is that?

A great big bowl of stinkin', slimy, steamin' crap, that's what kind.

Man, that seriously sucks.

Take care,
Jeff

Long time viewer, first time poster out of Detroit. Been nice knowing other people are buggin out over the match. The 3 weeks between certification and match day are ridiculous.

1) St. Vincent's, Toledo OH
2) Detroit Receiving
3) Sinai-Grace
4) Henry Ford
5) St. John's

What can I say, I'm destined to be midwest-4-life.

Good luck to everyone. :horns:

2. Vandy🙂
3. OSU🙂
4. Arizona🙂
5. EVMS😳
6. UConn😳
7. UCDavis😳
8. UMass🙁

Glad to see that no one really liked Drexel here. I loved all the ICU/no ward months, plus I liked the residents here more than anywhere else (lots of single party people like me). Vandy/OSU/AZ are awesome programs all around...all in very cool locations. Would be very happy at any of these. Liked EVMS on paper but had a bad interview day vibe there-didn't jive with the PD. Loved the people at UConn but program seemed to need some more work. Rotated at Davis and thought the R3's were weak compared to elsewhere. UMass...great program, just too damn cold.

Very little Mayo love this year 🙁

Which would be o.k., except there is little Ohio State love either (and I will be there) 😀

I didn't know you were going to OSU. Congratulations!!

I gave some Mayo love (a lot of love actually). OSU too. Great programs. Both very high on my list.

Congrats FF!! I am very glad to hear you got the gig you wanted. We'll miss not having you here in Iowa but now I have a connection at THE Ohio State University. Columbus is a great place and I am glad you ended up somewhere that you will be able to change the face of EMS research. You are going to be the guy to know in the future for this stuff and I am already glad to say I knew you before you became famous.

Your buddy,

The Corpsman.

UCSF Fresno😍

Most of my interactions were based on gut feeling, opportunities, interactions with faculty/junior residents, and location

Other notables: JHU, Ohio state, Yale, UF Gainesville, Orlando, LSU-BR, Maryland...

It's all good if I match anywhere I ranked.

Congrats on the job FF.

I know and even if you did have something to do with rankings the time has passed.

I was hoping that stating my #1 there would be some karmic effect on the outcome of the match. I am tired of crossing all my fingers, toes, arms, and legs.
