You are right, it's not an acceptance yet. Around 75 applicants will be invited to the 2nd look, and 50ish acceptances will be offered, and 20-25 will matriculate. Baylor has a similar candidate review, but they rank people and make rolling offers, in order to avoid over-matriculation.

We still talking about UTSW??? Because that is not the impression I was given from the phone call, and those numbers can't possibly be right... Hmm... I guess I'll get more details when I get the letter in a few days...

no, it's an acceptance. UTSW used to have a candidate review similar to Baylor's process. however, they have stopped doing that as of this year, so the offers that calf and I have received are definitely offers of admission. the second look is just that, a second look. I am 100% sure of this.

Congrats BM! I saw that you said there were only three interviews at Penn State. How were they divided between the md and md/phd? Was it one md interview and two md/phd interviews?

Actually they were all MD/PhD, since the MD/PhD committee runs independently from the MD-only admissions at PSU. However, Barb (the administrator) tries to schedule you with 1 MD, 1 PhD, and one of the co-directors (although I had a Steering Committee member instead). All of them talk about research but from different perspectives.
 
Thanks for the info. I have one last question: do you know how late they interview applicants? Do they interview through March or later? The reason I ask is because I have saved their secondary for last, because they have the latest deadline and probably won't get to it until some time in December.

Thank you! I'm so happy right now. All of that hard work paid off. I am so very, very pleased. I loved it so much when I went down there. I totally fell in love and I'm glad that the feeling was mutual. The second I got back, I bumped Baylor out of it's previously unchallenged #1 spot on my ranking of places I've visited. UVA might not have the highest rank, but it is by far the best school I've seen so far, just in terms of places that I would want to live for 8 years of my life. The perfect fit. :D

So all of the rejection calls for WashU interviewees on my interview day have been made, according to the office. I'm counting that as an unofficial acceptance (99%), but I won't add it until I get more solid word.

Congrats! I also called back at 4:59pm a week after my interview to make sure that they didn't mean to call to reject me. The people probably thought that I was crazy and basically told me what they probably told you. That night, I had a dream that I got an email from them saying "...Sorry, we had an emergency meeting this evening and decided to reject you."

Anyway, hope to see you at one of the re-visits!

Thanks man... and I thought I would be the only hip hop head on student doctor. I would argue the shining is an unbelievable album, but we'll save that argument for another thread.
