I tried to let that boost my ego...I really did. Reality crept in, however. It doesn't change the fact that I got the axe from them. On the bright side, 3 down, 31 to go. :laugh:

maybe someone hit the wrong button at BU and rejected everyone instead of sending out invites. 🙄 this is ridiculous!
 
Now, I know this is kind of a malicious thing to do, but could you guys call BU and do the whole "How can I improve?" dance? I'd like to know whether or not they're forthright about why they rejected numerous people with top 5% scores and quite a few with top 1% credentials. I'm serious. I'm legitimately interested in whether or not they'll tell you they rejected you because they think you won't attend.

Whats ridiculous is that BU hasn't even sent out a single interview invite.

I don't get it... But I have an Indian last name, which I can turn into an Irish sounding last name... So does that mean I will not get rejected. 😕
 
I just talked to BU admissions and they said that they don't answer any specifics about the applications over the phone. However, you can send them an email and they MAY send something back. I followed the advice and sent an email. I'll post more once I get a reply. But for some reason..I think its gonna be "Due to limited number of spots we have to reject many exceptional candidates" type answer.

This is true. I almost want to hand in my diploma. It was nothing compared to the math/sciences. I salute the pre-meds who did it for all four years.

Some of us are artists with all-science-all-the-time majors. We wake up at 6AM, go to class, go to class, go to class, drink water to "stimulate our sustained existence," go to class, and then pack it off to studio (which always ends late) only to come home with 8+ hours of non-science homework.:meanie:👍

I cannot speak on the ideas of admissions, but I will tell you what I think from being at BU so far. Our class (2012) is the largest in the history because more people accepted the seat in the class than they expected. We also have the highest stats in the history of BU, I think, with a GPA of around 3.75-3.8, and MCAT of around 34-35. A LOT of people apply to BU, around 11,000 applicants a year. In truth, there are around 115-120 available seats in every class because BU has already filled seats with students from their 7 year program, and 2 other programs from the undergrad campus. In terms of GPA and MCAT...yes, I think they do screen because they get so many applicants but what I think they do right away is try to see if you will be a fit at BU. If you have a 4.0 GPA and 45 MCAT, I doubt that they'll reject you right away, but yes, they may, because they don't want to waste time and money on applicants who they know will get in somewhere better and will not come to BU. That whole idea sucks but it's true with many of the schools...when I was applying last year, I did not get interviews at some of the schools that I considered "safeties" (if there is such a thing for a med school) while getting interviews at places that are more of a reach.

Anyways, being a good fit for BU is important, which mostly means, how do you feel being on the wards where 51% of the population that you serve are foreign-born? Do you have any usual outside exposures, rather than just the usual work in the ER. We have the largest Level I trauma in New England, and we're next to two towns where shootings and murders are considered almost everyday events. Also, BU prides itself on students who are good communicators. Have you shown somehow that you are good at communicating? Of course, that is best seen during interviews, which play a very important part in the admissions process. For those people who will end up interviewing at BU, they will understand me better when they actually come here and see what goes on here for themselves.

As for those who have been rejected, I understand your frustration. I was rejected at many schools last year, but everything turned out great, and for almost all of you, the same will happen. As the last note, when I was going down the elevator today, I heard the converstation of 2 administrators that consisted of "The **** hit the fan today bcause the son for one of the main lawyers for BU was rejected last night." So, you're not the only ones. Good luck this year and please let me know if you have any other questions.

No... I am 1/2 serious. There are the brilliant x brilliant ^ brilliant kids who could party all the time and still handle the premedical curriculum. However, they were the exception, not the rule, at my school. I'd see so many premed students hermiting away in their dorm rooms as I walked out for the Wednesday night dance party and I'd think "wow, those kids must be really anti-social. Why don't they want to parrrrrrtttyyy?" Last year, when I did my premed postbacc, I realized that many of them DID want to party, but unlike me at that time in my life, they actually had their eyes on something larger than themselves...

Look, a humanities / social sciences undergraduate is very respectable. All I am saying is, after having done 4 years as a social science double-major, then taking a year of premed courses, I can say with confidence that there really isn't any comparison between the [typical] commitment that the premed and non-premed needs to make to their studies in order to be a successful undergraduate.

It's not a statement of insult to my fellow non-traditional premeds, it's just a show of respect to the premeds who watched me walk out the dorm door every Wednesday night.

All I am saying is, after having done 4 years as a social science double-major, then taking a year of premed courses, I can say with confidence that there really isn't any comparison between the [typical] commitment that the premed and non-premed needs to make to their studies in order to be a successful undergraduate.

It's not a statement of insult to my fellow non-traditional premeds, it's just a show of respect to the premeds who watched me walk out the dorm door every Wednesday night.

hmm...well I really didn't notice a difference between the arts majors at my school and the science majors. Sometimes the science majors drank harder than anyone -- with all the pre-med stressors, you can imagine why.

I guess it takes all types. Personally, I'd say I'm more of a study-holic type person than a partier. I can't actually remember the last time I went out to a 'party' for that matter. Small friend gatherings, yes. No 'parties' per se.
