** Official 2008 Interview Invite Thread **

So, with UChicago I was nervous about that thing on the status page.... but I called admissions basically to see if it was an interview invite or a rejection...and they said " we don't have a decision for you yet" Weird?????
 
it's only mid-August, and this season already looks so gloomy to me...I guess applying early didn't help me at all 🙁

there are so many schools that have not even started sending invites yet. it's early. relax a little. (i am also telling myself this).:luck:

Not that weird. The person on the phone probably either a.) didn't have access to your record, and/or b.) didn't want to give you bad news over the phone. While it is possible that you have an interview invite on the way, but they've definitely made some sort of decision. Keep an eye on your inbox and snail mail. Good luck!

I totally know what you mean. But honestly, it's going to be a long year, so we have to find a way to keep ourselves sane. Copious drinking, anyone?!?

Hey mango, how did you know you were complete at OSU? On the status page, it says that they received my LORs and secondary, but under my current status, it still only says "AMCAS Application Received." I'm just wondering if it's supposed to say that I'm complete and under review.

Thanks....I am pretty sure my status page said the same thing as yours, but I am not positive so it might be worth giving them a call just to make sure. I know I didn't recieve an e-mail or anything. Good luck!

i have a stupid question. the essays for rochester say: "complete one week before interview" in bold letters. does that mean that they do not want them sooner than that? like they want you to have just completed them before you come or they just want to make sure that you have finished them before then so your interviewers can read them? i probably sound really neurotic. well at least i know that i am in good company here. 😱

I think you can do them anytime as long as they are submitted at least a week before your interview.
 
I got the status change too at Chicago. If it is a rejection, do we not find out until March? Do schools email rejections?

I think you can change your submission as much as you want until one week before interview.
 
I called EVMS for a status check and apparently they want to interview me. Official invite will come in a couple of weeks. Complete on 7-23. Someone add me to the official board cause i don't know how. I was so happy I couldn't even speak to them. OOS.

Congrats ulalalalaboy!!! Welcome to the EVMS club. Now, run out and get yourself a good guide to fixing the health care crisis. Cause they're gonna ask you to fix it - with detailed questions!

Now, not in any way to lessen the wonderfulness of getting an EVMS invite, but I'm starting to get a sneaking suspicion that anyone who passed their secondary screen who calls to check on the status of an already complete application gets an interview for their obvious interest this early in the cycle. Cause I've seen four people (myself included) who called to check on status that were told they'd receive an interview. Anyone else want to call and test the theory? If I'm right, your demonstrated interest gets you an interview! If I'm wrong,.... Errr, sorry, maybe don't call. Don't mean to get everyone's hopes up. But what are the odds that 4/4 people who called all got interviews? Then again, maybe others have called but just haven't posted anything. It does seem odd that just calling to check on your app gets you an interview, right? Then again, that's kind of what a letter of interest does. But maybe it only applies to OOS applicants, who they otherwise assume wouldn't be interested, and the phone call demonstrates interest? *shrug* Ok, I'm putting way too much thought into this. Carry on.

But what are the odds that 4/4 people who called all got interviews? Then again, maybe others have called but just haven't posted anything. It does seem odd that just calling to check on your app gets you an interview, right? Then again, that's kind of what a letter of interest does. But maybe it only applies to OOS applicants, who they otherwise assume wouldn't be interested, and the phone call demonstrates interest? *shrug* Ok, I'm putting way too much thought into this. I know someone who tested this theory a couple of days ago. He called them up and the woman told him his application was complete, but she didn't say anything about interviews...so I guess that's not good.
 
I'm pretty sure they're still being selective. I'm in close contact with the dean, and they apparently send secondaries to A LOT more people than they plan to interview. I've heard about half of instate secondaries get interviewed, but less OOS. I'm sure calling to check can't hurt- it certainly didn't with me ! Also, the people who haven't been granted interviews probably aren't talking about it/posting.

Ah, well, I guess my theory isn't correct. It was nice to think it was though. I hate that we all just sit here waiting, with nothing to do to impact the process. I guess once we get further along we can send letters to update or letters of interest or intent.

Ah, sorry! I didn't mean to imply that I thought they weren't being selective. I just meant that perhaps the more selective part of their process was receiving the secondary. Guess not. Thanks for the info! Also, if you don't mind my asking, which months do you recommend as the best months to interview in? Obviously earlier rather than later, but when do you think the odds of getting an acceptance after receiving an interview really decline due to the class getting filled up more? More specifically, would October or early November still be pretty early, or is that considered late for EVMS's purposes? Thanks.

Hey Phoenix,
So I'm basing most of this info on a close family member who does interviews for them:
They interview through April, and let people in on any date after October 15th. Apparently their adcom meets once a month, but I'm not sure if the whole committee discusses everyone, or just borderline people. From what they say, October and November are still REALLY early for them, and since they don't have only a couple of acceptance dates per year (AKA VCU), you don't have to wait several months until a specific date (and apparently they decide pretty fast). They do base acceptances to some extent on how interested the candidates seem-from what I understand (this family member doesn't want to tell me everything obviously). Also, there are three people at the interview and only one knows your stats. But you all may know that already. Ok sick of typing, I've learned a lot about them over the past couple of years so hopefully I can help everyone!
 
My status has also changed but it doesn't automatically mean we will receive an interview invite.
Final Decision for Interview Invitation has been Made: Yes
They could've made the decision to not interview...
 
Seems like Mondays are generally the days when a wave comes out.

WOW - that's EXCELLENT information. I guess I won't worry about scheduling my interview for October or November anymore. For now, I'll just focus on reading up on how I'm going to solve the health care system for them at the interview! I've read through a lot of interviews, and it seems one of the interviewers always plays "bad cop." Should be interesting!

I also did this and the woman who answered very kindly said that the decision was made that I would receive an interview but that the email would probably not come for another week or two. It seemed like this decision was already made before I called, but thanks anyways for the heads up Phoenix1!

I emailed columbia awhile ago. They said that they wouldn't even be looking at 2008 apps until the end of august.

SDN is being so slow today....

Yeah, they only interview on Wednesdays, unfortunately. Which means I get the joyous opportunity of flying halfway across the country right after my Tuesday classes, and hoping I can make my Thursday classes again. But the interview day looks pretty nice... you go from noon to about 4:30, which means I don't have to go to the interview looking dead from having to wake up 2-3 hours earlier than I normally do.

Nothing for me yet. My premed committee didn't upload my LOR until 7/30, so obviously I became "complete" about two weeks later than you did. I submitted my secondary in early July.

I'm just hoping for an interview soon from them, they're probably my top choice at this point.
