Seriously... though J turned hers in super early and never heard anything from them right? I guess I'm just a little surprised to not even get an interview from the a.m.

I'm going to say the majority of the rejections posted on here are post-secondary pre-interview.

There are a couple places that screened pre-secondary, like Vanderbilt and UCSF so a lot of those are pre-secondary rejections.

Also, some places have started to reject post-interview, and I think most people have labeled that they were rejected or waitlisted post interview.
 
This one stings. WashU, post-interview. But hey, Chicago should start handing out MSTP interview invites soon.

Oh Pennquaker! That's such a bummer. Only thing I can say to you is, this process is so unpredictable it can sometimes feel like a lottery, so just hang in there. Look at it this way; you have a Harvard interview coming up pretty soon, so that's gotta be a good sign. You've had some other pretty good (i.e., tough to get) interviews, too, so judging from that you ought to get in somewhere good. Maybe your state schools thought you were a very strong candidate and would not be likely to matriculate there? Sometimes that could be a reason for rejection if they want to increase their yield.

Thank you much for your kind words, Dodo. As far as Harvard is concerned, I think it's largely going to be a dog-and-pony show anyway; I have no shot there. I hope to join the acceptance club at some point...but tonight I just don't feel like that's going to happen :cry:

Unfortunately yes. You have to pass the medical school secondary screening in order to be considered for the MSTP, which by the way, is based on residency...:mad:

Wait, they gave you a mean rejection?! How rude! I thought schools always blamed it on too many applications and assured you that you would find a great school. Well I would go ahead and send them a copy of your acceptance to all those top 10 schools you are interviewing at and say "Not competitive? Really?? Eat this suckers!"

That's interesting. I didn't think MSTPs were allowed to give preference to in-state applicants, even indirectly through med school screening.

MSTPs can't. But for UCSF you have to pass the screening for the medical school secondary in order to get a secondary, which is based on residency. Once you pass that point then the MSTP doesn't care about residency. If you look on SDN for the people that are getting secondaries from UCSF you will notice that the stats are much lower for CA residents who get a secondary versus OOS people. Even for the MD/PhDs some of the best people this year got rejected (j-weezy comes to mind).

Also Pennquaker, I just saw that you even got a friggin' Stanford MSTP interview (!), which many of us who got Harvard interviews did not get. Solitude, j-weezy, Ziggy08 and yours truly come to mind.

So good luck :thumbup: ; don't second-guess the great interview invites you're getting but go on ahead and rock those interviews; and stay positive. :luck: Easier said than done, as I know all too well, but remember we're all in this together. Same goes for you, too, OncDoc!

I actually did get the secondary, and that's what makes the letter from the SOM confusing. Eh, I guess I'll find out (get closure) soon enough when I call UCSF tomorrow.

I just had a quick question, to see if this has happened to anyone else.

I have been complete at harvard since late september, and today got an email explaining that I was complete at the MD office. Does this mean my application has been forwarded (ie rejected) by the MSTP office, or does it mean anything at all? Just wondering, because it seemed very out of the blue.

Hey solitude, I know how that feels (believe me - WashU was pretty devastating) but I think at the end of all of this, you'd probably be happier in STL than baltimore

I know that doesn't help much, but you're still 'sitting pretty' and there's still Harvard and maybe UCSF and Yale

I'm sorry to hear that, solitude. I was disappointed when I got that letter yesterday, but I can't say I was surprised. Now that 2 out of 4 of us are rejected, I can only send my best wishes to the other two interviewees. :luck:
