Is that a UNC interview you got this this week, or is that one from last week?

Those of you who have received interviews from UNC and Florida, was the only correspondence you received the invite itself or did it start with an acknowledgement of receipt? Also if the latter, how long to get the interview invite and when did you apply?

Guessing my automated receipt of application = no interview.

Trying to justify it with thoughts of it having recently been labor day weekend, short work week...But....

thanks

At least for me, I got acknowledge of my app last week when I applied on 9/1, then a seperate invitation yesterday.

Nothing downloaded by UT Houston on my ERAS.

I'd imagine that they are helpful as long as you make a good impression while you are there.

I was wondering if it would be wise to cancel an "audition" rotation that is scheduled in November at a program that hasn't offered you an interview beforehand.

I considered it - but it could go on the other swing and hurt your chances as well? I don't know, this process sucks. What's your thoughts on it?

I applied to burger king just incase I don’t have a job next year. They offered me an INTERVIEW does that count.

You already got interview invite to Burger King? Mannnn, I sent my application out on sept 1 and still haven't heard a word. Do you think I still have a shot there?

An audition rotation during interview season can be hit or miss. November is the beginning of the interview season so you might not really get noticed because the major staff might be focused on choosing the next class.

On the other hand, if you can overcome that it might not be the worse thing in the world to do the rotation.

I guess my thoughts are, that if a program doesn't think you are good enough on paper to offer you an interview outright, then chances are you will be close to the bottom of their rank list after doing a rotation and interviewing during a "courtesy" interview. I suppose if you made an amazing impression during your rotation, then things might be different.

However in my situation, I would actually be working in an off campus pain clinic in late November, not directly with the main anesthesiology department.

Right now I'm 50/50 for canceling the rotation since it is going to be a really expensive investment with a minimal return if any at all. I might be better off saving that money so I could attend more interviews at other programs that offered me an interview straight from ERAS. This might be premature, but I do know that this particular program has indeed started offering interviews, since it is one of the programs listed above.

Well, the program I'll be doing auditions in Oct and Nov hasn't shown up yet on the list, so I'm not sure what to really do or say. I totally agree with you though that if a place you're set to audition (or currently audition at) hasn't extended you an interview then chances are it won't matter. The program I'll be auditioning at in the next week has already extended an invitation, so I'm thrilled about that. However, its my only invite for anesthesiology at this point and time. Hopefully I find out about the other program in the next few weeks or else I may just end up canceling the spot and finding a rotation at my core hospital instead, so that I'll have no issues in terms of missing time while on auditions.

The program I'm currently at has made it sound like they will give me an invite as soon as they download applicant info in the next few weeks (which I'm stoked about since it's #1 on my list). I have 2 official interviews from programs that I wasn't able to rotate at. I will post up the names when I get the dates confirmed.

Seeing that your program offered you an interview before you actually started the rotation makes me lean more towards canceling the rotation in question. Perhaps the program I set up a rotation with didn't look to see who was rotating in all the anesthesiology sub specialties. Regardless, it doesn't look promising. If more people post up interviews from said program by the end of next week, then I'll most likely cancel the rotation and line up something at my home hospital.

FWIW, I've rarely heard of anyone not being granted at least a courtesy interview after doing an audition rotation at a program. However, it's entirely possible that a program is too busy to compare their list of future audition rotation students with the the hundreds of applicants that applied through ERAS.

Congrats on the 2 programs.
I'll cancel once that program in question starts showing up in this list - until then, I can only assume they're waiting for the MSPEs to be released in November?

I noticed that too. Hence, not sure if I'm getting a courtesy/pity interview or if being instater and rotating there got me the invite. Seems like they've given a LOT of people invites though, so not sure.

Hey, just keeping things funny for all of us in this stressful time. Oh, my step 1 was over 230.

Sorry got a little aggressive there. Your right comedy is the the best, it just wasn't that funny. You should have said, wait for it... The closer to your moms weight you get on step 1, the better chance for an interview.

This is the most painful thing I have had to endure in some time. At this point, I have received two acknowledgments of receiving my application, which I got on the second or third of September. Since then I have not received any other emails. I have computer access at all times, which leads to me checking for new emails about every 2 min, it is driving me crazy and I can hardly get any work done! Just needed to vent and I am sure I am not alone.

FWIW, last year I got all of my interview invites between September 20th and November 1st, and many came in blocks of 3-4 in a day...

First time poster here. Just curious...anyone out there who applied to west coast programs and heard back from them? I'm going to school in CA and only applied to programs in California, Washington, Oregon and Arizona. Submitted ERAS on Sept 3 but haven't heard back from any yet.

Got the email this AM but was at work and just checked email.

Am I just being a paranoid and impatient spaz? I am now convinced that silence = rejection. My email sent me an email telling me to stop Fxxxing checking your email every 30 sec. I guess its time to start practicing using the fryer and flipping burgers because there is no way in hell that I am doing FM or IM. Maybe I should have applied to Derm, Plastics or Rad Onc because those are easy to get into. At this point getting an e-mail from my top programs telling me I am a douche bagwould be a relief compared to the silence ( I know I am setting myself up here, If you reply to this or PM me to tell me I am a douche bag I will not be offended). The list of interviews was not that concerning but it is growing quickly and now there are a few programs that I applied to. You would think that all the calls I made to the PDs houses in the middle of the night and the long messages I left them on there answering machines would of landed me some interviews by now. I think I am going to send them singing telegrams next week if I do not hear anything. It worked for Med school!

(I use comedy to resolve my personal frustrations, sadly though I am not very funny. But, I am short, fat, bald, incontinent and a realle baD Spellor so I have that going for me)
:bang:

I believe that OHSU doesn't interview until the MSPE is out, but I could be wrong.

I got my first shred of a response from anywhere today. MGH telling me that they got my application and are doing a comprehensive review of all applications in the next 6-8 weeks.

I feel like Jim Carrey in Dumb and Dumber: "so you're telling me there's a chance...YEAH!!!!!"

My thoughts are similar. The list expanded big time and the same people are getting multiple invites. I felt pretty good last week, but now I'm realizing that maybe my sole invite for anesthesiology is probably a fluke, or a pity, or something. The other programs I've applied to are showing up and I have nothing from them. Maybe there's a chance I match with only 1 interview?? 🙄

I've heard nada from West Coast programs, not even an acknowledgment of application.

I know it feels like the list is pretty big, but in relation to the number anesthesia programs out there it's still pretty small. Just look at the list from last year if you need reassurance.

A significant chunk of invites go out late September/early October, but will continue after that. I wouldn't get concerned until November 1. Maybe a little concerned if it's mid/late-October and you have 0.

Don't worry, it'll pick up.
