I guess I am surprised bc I spoke to both Upenn and Stanford I think yesterday and they both told me that they are a few days away from sending out interviews. I am wondering if ppl that got interviews today were internal candidates.
I know programs can potentially call you at the whim with little notice for an interview. But do all programs eventually send out "love letters" or are some programs notorious for not giving closure to applicants?

They prob gave u the interview bc other ppl cancelled. I got mine more than a month ago and I dont go there. Getting there is very inconvinient though bc the closest airport is 1 hr away (Manchester).
I dont know about case western. The PD of metro health, David Rosenbaum, who was a ture pioneer his field and one of my heros passed away a few months ago. I am assuming they are in a transition period and therefore running late.

I am in the NE-hence works for me....
And I think its reasonable to start canceling IVs that ppl are not going to attend...for whatever reason.....I will start-I recently cancelled IVs at UAMS and UMC for conflicting dates, and geographic issues.....

I think it depends on what one wants to do. From my understanding, UofC is very strong in imaging and PH while Northwestern is def better for preventive and outcomes. I think they both have similar heart failure and transplant volumes, but hopefully someone else can
I know UofC has hired EP ppl recently and just got a new division chief, so not sure how that plays out. would def be something to ask PD and fellows during interview

If I'm not mistaken the two top Cardiology programs in Chicago are Northwestern and Loyola not U of Chicago. U of Chicago is going through so much change in their division. Northwestern and Loyola do similar amounts of Heart transplants, I think Loyola has higher cath volume though. So probably the one program no one is talking about is the better in Chicago and that is Loyola.

I've gotten around 18 interviews... but I applied to 50 programs. On the one hand I feel really lucky, but I didn't get most of the interviews I really wanted. I'm not complaining, though. I think you only need one or two if they are the right programs. I'm getting the idea that most programs interview 6-8 people per spot. Does that sound right?

I called them, they r still reviewing applications and vl sent out probably next week.
On that note, how is the comparison between UMKC-MAHI and KUMC.
As per US News rankings, KUMC is way higher..Was wondering
Dont go by rankings-UMKC-MAHI is one of the tpomost centers for outcomes research and they publish articles in NEJM and JAMA every other week-KU is more basic science oriented....both are good programs-but UMKC is probably attracting more talent these days-they have ppl like o'keefe, spertus.cohen etc.

love letter from Univ.of Kansas....
I was taking these love letters well initially, but now I'm increasingly confused. What are do these program want!? I'm confident I've good letters, plus have 14 publications, 11 abstracts (5 in ACC, 1 in AHA), 1 national award at ACP, teaching award from my university....
I've 3 interview calls thus far.... and ALL of them were purely due to some good networking. 1 is in in my own hospital. What sucks is I have not received any calls from other institutes based on my own merit.
Time for some SERIOUS introspection......

Maybe people getting calls from IVY leagues have more publications/better research than you...;-)
But seriously,-are you on a visa-this year H1B actually had a significant negative correlation with invites, I guess because of the time frame-I have been lucky to have more IVs than most-but largely as I was fortunate to have 1 mentor who wrote to a couple of places/made phone calls to people he knew.Keep hoping, maybe things will look up for you-I sincerely hope so......
PS-I really DO think that many programs should take out the wordings 'equal opportunity, affirmative action....'-thats horse**** IMHO.......
Hi floppy, hang in there. It only takes one interview to match. The issue is that its lot harder for IMGs to secure invites. The problem could also that you may be out of training, visa etc. with 500 ppl applying for 2-5 slots...... It's hard to actually screen these applicants.
Sadly enough, it's hard to get rejections but you know what, look at the brighter side and enjoy what you are doing and if cards fellowship comes along fine otherwise try to enjoy the moment. It's what you mentioning I don't there is any thing else you can do improve your credentials.
