Less than 1/2 of the places I have interviewed at have said anything. Considering that most of us also have to accomodate our residency schedules, it would be nice to have a little notice.

Cleaned that up for you cardio folks. Remember this when you're thinking of stealing any more cool IR procedures. 😉

I've heard Sinai (regular program not urban health) and NYU have started giving out interviews. That just leaves Cornell as the only university program in new york to have not given out interviews. Has anyone heard from the Harvard programs?

Added Northwestern- I know they started sending invites out a while back and have already started interviews...per friends in Chicago

Rejection from Loma Linda...

I'm on a roll! 5 rejects in last 4 days..

No I got the same date. I don't know why they offer only one day. Seems strange.

0 interviews so far, full of rejections, and starting to get nervous. Sharing credentials may help me to learn where I stand in the competition and probably help allay anxiety. If you guys feel so lets get started; I will start first-- IMG, no visa issue, from good community program, great letters, 2 original papers in JACC as 2nd author, another manuscript recently submitted to JACC, 4 abstracts -- 3 in JACC, currently pursuing MSCR at a top program.

For the UCLA interview invites, It probably has to do with the track you applied for.

Is it to do with star Track or all those who have invites it is clinical track..
Also to add emory has already sent out invites..talked to pc..they r done for the year

Yep. Not everyone has one of those and AHA looks good.

In the same vein, I asked for a letter of recommendation from a moderately prominent attending that came in late. It was uploaded to ERAS. Do you think I can ask to include that letter in my app?

As long as you have not reached your limit of 4 to upload, I would do it. I don't think ERAS is going to let you upload more than that.

I'm in a similar situation myself. I found out that I got a first author manuscript accepted to American Journal of Cardiology 2 days after I applied. Regardless, I'm not sure that that additional news in an email to the PD is enough to suddenly sway them one way or the other, particularly in light of the fact that you already have multiple other pubs, etc. Might look a little desperate. I think it's still early and a lot of programs simply haven't started sending invites yet. For me, I'll definitely add it to my CV and bring it up on interviews, but if a program isn't going to interview me in the first place, I don't think the change in status of a manuscript from "submitted" to "accepted" will be enough to change their minds. Just my 2 cents.

They'll automatically get it upon their first download after it's available in the system.

If you're beyond the limit you'll have to choose to deactive another letter. We'll see something to tell us which you'd chosen to deactivate, but we will have access to all of them.

Hard to tell. If they're on the fence about the application, the emailed update can be seen as proof that you're really interested in their program. A candidate may want to update any of their top 5 programs that haven't yet invited/rejected.

Thanks Crane and everyone. Btw Crane Congrats on ur paper and interviews.

How many programs have you not heard from yet? There's still hope.

I have not still heard from many programs yet. I fear that many times I get screened out because I am not from a University program, or may be because I am an IMG. I am not sure what else I should do to make me more competitive, and express my interest in cardiology -- it is very frustrating.

Is it me, or do others prefer the original format? It seems easier to keep track based on chronological order.

I'm sorry to hear that you have not gotten any IV's yet, your profile does look very impressive, I'm on a J1 with half of your profile from a community program and already have 2 IV's, so I dont know why you have not gotten any yet. I have heard that if your program directors letter has any negative components in it, you will not get any IV's, do you think thats the case?

Just got an interview invitation from St. Luke's/Texas Heart Institute! No choice in dates, they just scheduled me for 9/28. 🙂

CV student,
My credentials r pretty similar to yours.I did residency in a Community-affiliated to Univ. Program. This is my 2nd year applying. I am now doing a Post Doc since I didnt match last year.
After my 1st application (last year) I thought my problem was the visa and/or publications. Now I have both: publications and green card. To be honest, it hasn't made a difference.
I believe my biggest weakness and probably yours too is where we did ur residency. If the Cardiology Dept wasn't very big or well known that's NOT helpful. I learned this recently after talking to a friend who is applying. His credentials r not as good as yours or mine and he has very low USMLE scores (even multiple attempts) and he already has 2 interviews. This is because he did his residency in a Univ. Hospital in NYC. He has LoR from the chief of his dept. (who is well known in NYC) and he has two interviews in NYC programs.
Unfortunately, this is not a perfect system. My only advice is KEEP trying and dt give up! 🙂

i have not still heard from many programs yet. I fear that many times i get screened out because i am not from a university program, or may be because i am an img. I am not sure what else i should do to make me more competitive, and express my interest in cardiology -- it is very frustrating.

At this point, there is not much you can do. You could try contacting the programs ONCE and reiterate your desire to go there, but more than that it will likely reflect badly on you - at least per my PD and PC. I was instructed "not to hound" programs.

We are all in the same boat - although IMGs more than others. It takes a lot of work to get to this point and you can't change the resume now.

The season is still young, so try to hang in there and realize it is mostly out of your hands now.

I agree with you; it is the place where you did your residency that is the most important. For IMG it is first so difficult to get into a residency in any program, and even more difficult to get into a university program. I will even have a terminal research degree (MSCR) before I start fellowship. What else can I do to improve my competency? The cardiology dept in my program is somewhat known for research in their field in the country and abroad. My letter writers are likewise equally known in their field. I have great letters from them, including my PD. I have great USMLE scores. My biggest weakness -- I was trained in a community program or because I am an IMG. I am not giving up, but it is disheartening given the way the system works.

Somehow, my case is very similar to yours. I have worked on my CV for the past years. I think we both have good CVs and at this point is not a matter of adding publications, more titles, etc. It's more a matter of getting the opportunity, an open door. I think networking should be your next step. I recommend you to ask your Mentor/PD to make calls. And keep the GOOD WORK !!! I am still hopeful that hard work still counts and MOST OF ALL PERSEVERANCE !!! Be very patient.

I am just a current applicant like you. But I am moved by posts like this especially when I see that applicants have done everything humanly possible to get their feet into the door ; but no one is giving them a chance. I feel for you. Just a few comments:

1. This question is certainly beyond you but....if the Cards dept in your program is well known, what are they waiting for to start off their own Cards training program and help their internal candidates out?
2. Someone commented on LOR somewhere in this thread. Are you sure they were stellar?
3.With your profile, ( and even that of Itsmemaryjane), there is no reason to have less than 4-5 IVs at this time .... except of course the community program issue.
4.You are on the right track. You have done your best and that should give you peace. If you read the previous years' threads, you will find out that some people that got late interviews even matched with as little as 3 IVs. I personally know someone that matched with a single IV .

So be encouraged bro/sis. Impossible is nothing!

Sincerely,
Genecancer ( Heme/Onc Applicant)

I guess everything comes down to networking ultimately! I know someone who matched into a good fellowship program purely on the basis of this.... that too with after doing 1yr of OPHTHALMOLOGY research! Networking in the key!

Its been 5 weeks since applications.. I'm just hoping that the season is still "young" as everyone is saying... just 2 IV calls and a dozen rejects! That too after 14 publications, 15 abstracts, 1 national ACP award, 1 best resident teacher award and good LORs!

and just to reiterate.. those two interview calls are also through.. you guessed it right.... networking!
it kinda stinks because then you think that everything you've done thus far is garbage 'cos you have not gotten any calls based on your own merit!!

1. The most important thing to understand is that an IMG follows a different interview pattern then a US grad no matter how distinguished your profile is...One friend of mine who is applying in Hem/onc after completing his PhD and residency was told by his internal medicine program director that he will always remain a tier 2 candidate and he cannot change that and should move forward after accepting this fact.
2. Like genecancer, I have few examples as well where IMG's matched to cardiology/hemonc with much fewer interviews...
3. I feel that sometimes we overestimate our CV's and I would make sure that my letters were steller before getting them in...especially for cardiology
We should all remain focused, keep trying and wait for that opportunity..Good luck

Co resident just got UCSF today, congrats bro.

From replies above, it really sounded frustrating. I really am too. I 100% agree with replies earlier about residency training from famous or u base place really important for candidate selection. I am J1 from community program, doing cards related fellowship, very good lors, have few publications, several abstract, good scores, but I got 1 IV from small program, no connection so far, many rejection. Comparing, to my friend, J1, R2, have national abstracts, no publication. BUT resident from university program=> many interviews in good programs. I previously thoght VISA is an issue but now I strongly believe Residency training/Lor form well known has so much to do with candidacy. I am kinda resistant to love letters, thinking about fixing my VISA/ getting involved in well known person/ U-based place. Kinda sucks and hopeless....

Is it me, or do others prefer the original format? It seems easier to keep track based on chronological order.

Prefer this.......

How many interview invites are people getting? Sure I've read the posts above, but I'm just curious others that are out there, particularly those without visa issues?

I don't have visa issues and I have received 11 interview offers so far. What about others at this point?

Two questions:
1) Has anyone outside Chicago received a Northwestern interview?
2) How many people have received interviews from Univeristy of Washington?
