I can't tell if this thread is going to be incredibly depressing because of so many rejections, or incredibly uplifting when still hanging on as others are given the axe.

It's going to be both depressing and uplifting. I'm curious to see how many people actually contribute. For all the SDN humble brags I've seen with respect to interview invitations, I have rarely (if ever) seen people talk openly about rejection. The exception to this being the 4.0, 41 MCAT applicant who desperately wants to know how a top 5 med school could reject him. Props to the OP for keeping it real.

A candidate with such high stats can definitely still be rejected by a top 5 school because, well, top 5's require not only stellar numbers but also stellar everything else in the candidate's application.

I am not afraid to post my rejections here. They happen to the best of us (and obviously the worst of us).

UCLA: applied around September 2013, just got rejected a few months ago. OOS.

I'd contribute, no problem. So far I'm in purgatory for all schools I applied to, although it hasn't been long enough for neuroticism to truly kick in. I've been complete from three weeks to a couple of days ago.

You'll probably see me here in the next few weeks :D

Do you mean that we should contribute if we receive a formal rejection email/letter from the school letting us know that we are no longer being considered? I know many schools silent-reject, and most schools haven't sent out official letters of rejection yet. So, @BrCo, that might be why you haven't seen as much talk about rejections. I'm sure that my application has been passed over by a number of schools, but none of them have sent me letters letting me know yet. Definitely some schools have started rejecting people (Mayo, University of Washington, VCU), but I don't think most have, unless I'm completely mistaken.

When I do get my first rejection letter, I'll certainly contribute to this thread! Do most start coming out in October?

@sunflower18, I'm just commenting that people much more willingly talk about their accomplishments than failures in general, not just for this present application cycle.

Ohhh gotcha. Sorry! I misunderstood your post. That makes more sense now, and I agree with what you're saying. Sorry for the confusion!

Rejected from West Virginia pre-secondary due to lack of "close ties to state" lol meh :p

I am curious if the med schools send rejections before they receive recommendations ( after secondaries), i.e before complete status?

yes some do. FOr example, Mayo and UCSF don't look at your LoRs during the primary screening.

It is very very very sad and depression to see all those rejection. I received a secondary from UC Irvine, so it is safe to say I probably will receive the rest of secondaries from all the MD school (20+) . But I know a lot of those MD school will not offer me interview anyway; kinda sad because I pay everything out of my pocket with no fee waiver (my MCAT is only 30). I will update the reject list as soon as I start to receive them

Could people post a link to their WAMC thread if they made one?

It doesn't have to be a depressing thread.... Schools are looking for so many different types, someone likened it to dating. You'll find your match. Today my match wasn't University of Wisconsin. Furthermore, it's comforting to see that all types are both accepted as well as rejected. Posting both shows how far we are from being the only one in either category and especially the rejection category.

Thus as of today I have: 1 rejection, 3 II, and 16 left to hear from.
I'm stateless... seriously. LizzyM between 65-70 (it's not all about stats, experience goes a long way...clearly)

This thread is literally useless without the stats. Its hard to find for some people who have lots of threads created, or people who dont even have a WAMC

Already rejected from University of Missouri- Kansas City and from university of New Mexico (both were complete early July and rejected within two weeks :'(

Both were forward and stated they prefer in-state unless a highly competitive OOS, which I appreciated the directness.

Rejected from UChicago in mid July. I was upset at the time, but I'm over it now.

Rejected from Indiana and UC Riverside early in the cycle, but 4 interview invites since then. You win some you lose some.

I received a secondary soon after being verified in the beginning of July. They worked quickly after I submitted my secondary. I am OOS also...

If you are seriously asking that question then you are not paying attention. The LizzyM's are in there. Gpa and mcat make a person clearly identifiable in many cases.

So far there is a grand total of 1 LizzyM score and 1 mention of an MCAT score in this whole thread. Privacy concerns are understandable, but people can at least provide a range (MCAT>x, GPA >Y) if they're really that concerned the Med School Gestapo is after them. Without some indication of how strong of an applicant the person getting rejected is, what's the point?
