Well if this is a 'safety school' invite and you've got other dental school interviews that are higher choices, maybe your train of thought is ok. Now if this is your top choice school, I would explain to your boss that you simply can't make it that day. There are plenty of dental staffing firms just for the purpose of filling in during emergencies.
