Thank you, very useful info. Can't go back to J1 since did waiver after being on J1 Research scholar to go on H1B.Hi, I'm on the same boat as you, H1B pending GC. I spoke with the Chief of GI and due to the NIH grant, pending GC status does matter to programs, as only citizen/GC can receive NIH grant. He told me it's really up to the program whether they will believe you that you'll get the GC before starting fellowship, and he mentioned a few faculty members who applied for GC via NIW with tons of publications long time ago but still did not obtain GC. Seems like that is an issue for most programs. So it is the matter of how well you are reassuring the programs that you definitely will get a GC especially if you're applying for research track. For clinical track, visa status does not seem to matter that much, but as you know most great programs only accept J1, so you may want to open up the option of converting to J1 (I know it sucks).
On the other hand, the GI APD told me that there has been some cases that they accepted the fellow as clinical fellows when they ranked and converted them to research fellow when they started the fellowship once GC is approved. I'm not sure how it actually works, but it seems like there are some options within the program to play around if they really want to take you.

Somewhere in second half of august to 1st week of september is the peak seasonseems like a lull in the invites. People have told me the majority come out sometime this month true?
Remember IMGs will get far lesser IVs than AMGs. but hey all u need is one good IV to impress. There is always hopeNo IV yet. Really sucks to be IMG!
AMG and no IV yet. So I don't know if this is an even more ominous sign. Hoping to not be the minority statistic at the end.No IV yet. Really sucks to be IMG!
Agreed it sucks to be IMG in getting late interviews in small numbers and rejected by programs that are inbred and consanguineous (aka ivy league). At least IMGs match eventually if dedicated enough. Likewise it sucks to be an AMG with Med School debts on an average $500K with interest, whereas most IMGs do not have this issue. There is always a tradeoff and no one gets a free lunch. Things we can change in life are those for the future but not what has already been inherited. Therefore it makes it an even playing field for all, making no excuse for AMGs or IMGs to complain about. This is a fact well known to all candidates and selectors alike, although not openly voiced.AMG and no IV yet. So I don't know if this is an even more ominous sign. To say all IMGs don't have any loans is wrong. For example, someone who went to ROSS or SGU really has the same loan burden as an AMG. Some of the medical schools in India charge close to $175000-$200000 by the time medical school is completed.Agreed it sucks to be IMG in getting late interviews in small numbers and rejected by programs that are inbred and consanguineous (aka ivy league). Very very valid point on competitive residenciesI never meant to start a debate on this issue, only to say that I wish us all (IMG and AMG alike) the best of luck. I realize being IMG makes it harder and don't want to act like an entitled American. By GI being a fellowship rather than a residency it at least makes it possible for IMGs unlike residencies such as Derm.
Next week is the start of what is typically the high time for IVs by the looks of previous years. I'm going to try to stay optimistic at least for couple more weeks.
Stop being paranoid checking prior year's forums. Everyone here by now know that all it takes to delay invites can be as simple as - coordinator on a vacation, coordinator has a new grandkid, program director is on clinical service and hasn't had chance of reviewing all applications, etc. it's not always a constant template. So take a chill pill, enjoy the weekendHas anyone heard from the likes of Pitt, UW, Michigan, Baylor, Penn?? Seems like by this time last year these programs had all handed out interviews.

Does it surprise us that Yale University GI Program (Ivy league), went unmatched in 2014 as per NRMP statistics? Reason: "internal candidate" ! A convenient loophole in the NRMP system, programs just have to state they are going unmatched after the expensive ERAS application and IV process. They have to do this to make the competition look legit! I suspect the same may happen to some of these .......Pitt, UW, Michigan, Baylor, Penn...........lets watch and see.Has anyone heard from the likes of Pitt, UW, Michigan, Baylor, Penn??
