Shows what kind of research some people do prior to applications. Misinformation is a real thing. Took one little glance and threw the garbage out.

Except for whatever reason, a lot of dental schools are starting to advertise this QS Ranking on their websites. Michigan, for example, is loving that they’ve been ranked #1 in the country. The average joe (your future patients) will read it and not know any different... maybe even choose a dentist who graduated from U of M versus UDM. The perception will stick.

The average joe is more interested in the RCT for his tooth pain than the diploma you have on the wall. Dentists almost never get asked where their training was done.

I can assure you the average joe has no idea what the QS ranking is or even exists. The only people that know what it is are pre dents looking up information on schools.

I'll just do a weekend CE course at Harvard for a fraction of the cost and hang it on my wall and claim I trained at Harvard. You think the average joe can figure out what The difference is? No.

“Oh, I see you went to Harvard! You must be very smart”

“N-no, I just did a weekend course there....”

“....”

Finally! Acceptance #1 NYU ~3.6 oGPA , ~3.6 sGPA 21 AA 22 TS nothing below 20. Still waiting on UDM and Minnesota.

For those who are still waiting, I know the wait sucks. This process is brutal but if this is what you want you will eventually get accepted. You just have to have hope 🙂 Hope is key!

Eh, Congratulations!, post it on CANADIAN thread too pls

That is so true! I have been going to my dentist for 17 years and only when I was applying to dental school I asked him which dental school he went to. I also was shadowing a dentist who graduated from a very low "ranking" school and she was great and her patients loved her.
When schools are rated you need to know what the ranking criteria are, sometimes the ranking takes into consideration social aspect, students' accommodations, location of the school and some how much in research grants school receives, so none of that matters to me for example.

Hi SDNers!, need some input/advice on a school decision since apparently we gotta do it by the end of the month. Any thoughtful input would be much appreciated. I'm OOS so it's expensive for me either way. I don't think I will specialize at the moment unless something really strike my fancy. My vision to be able to open up my own practice in the near future. Would love to hear your thoughts. MWU-AZ (a bit more $) vs IUPUI

IUPUI is a very good program and substantially less than MWU-AZ, I believe. I would choose IU unless you have family in AZ.

You bet your ass Im going to do a "weekend course" at harvard now. Great Idea.

There's this general dentist who has CEs from all 3 Ivies. I forgot his website but it was like "Implantology certificate From Columbia" and all those fancy Names. All a bunch of bull of course, but it's a genius move taking advantage of average joes. Of course without paying the full Ivy League price.

You must have a huge ego to do that or lack self confidence

Applicants that are still waiting for acceptance or interview: As of today, Case Western is still scheduling interviews as they have more D1 places to fill. Still hope for those who are waiting for acceptance.

So should we choose a school on April 1st if we hold multiple acceptances? I understand ADEA informs schools on April 5th and then schools give a 15 day notice of withdrawal? But am I better of deciding before the 15 day notice? Schools just don't say "hey we are withdrawing you" in that 15 days right?

You're better off deciding now. The 15 day is the last warning before they can rescind your acceptance

Why risk it? Just decide now

has anyone ran into the issue of parents making your decision on where you go to school?:arghh:
Are they going to pay for your schooling? I spoke to my parents about the schools and listened to their opinions, but we agreed it was ultimately my decision on where to go. If they are telling you where to go, maybe sit down with them and tell them you value their opinion and you will take that under advisement but that ultimately you need to feel comfortable with the school and want to go their. Parents mean well but sometimes cross the line without realizing it.

yes they are going to pay for it. I feel this whole cycle they have been making the decisions for me! I will certainly take your advice and use it when I make my decision. Thank you!

no because its closer to home/extended family
That is completely normal, especially if you and your parents have a good relationship. It sounds like they mean well and, as long as they understand it is ultimately your decision, then they can have all the opinions they want as long as you are doing what is best for you. A support system isn't so bad to have around though.

Good luck, sounds like you just need to sit down and have a heart to heart. They have your best interests and probably have valuable insight, but only you know what school is the best fit. You are lucky they are paying for it. Through all of this, I asked a Dr what were the best dental schools, he said the one you get into....all that matters is getting in. Then it’s all up to you after that.. . Everything works out and it sounds like you have a good support group, just stay strong and let them know you can make the decisions, and you will include them in the thought process...

What’s a good email that I can send to a school that I am rescinding my acceptance to? I also am going to call them in the morning.

Dear Dean of Admissions at XXX,

Thank you for believing I would make a good fit at XXX. It is an honor to have been given the opportunity to attend such an incredible program.

Regretfully, I must withdraw my seat in favor of a program that makes more sense for my family and I.

Respectfully,
Your name
