I wonder how many people are going to be applying for that spot...odds have to be much better and less stressful than the general match process.

I ve heard that back in the old days there was a process called Pre-match. it seems to be something like that... the friend of mine has 6 interviews so far including one or 2 top 20 programs... so he's going to have to make a tough decision. If he already had 10+ interviews or had absolute zero the decision would have been simpler... I am glad I am a PGY3 and won't have to make the decision ...

but a rutgers in hand is worth more than a Brigham in the bush..

Looking for input on Michigan vs Hopkins ? Aside from location- any big differences in terms of training and fellow happiness?

Rutgers is a strong program with a strong transplant hepatology (Combined/ pilot) pathway and an excellent advance fellowship.

Their faculties are involved not only in advancing the practice of gastroenterology and hepatology and Nutrition but also many clinical trials for new innovations to predict, prevent and cure digestive diseases.

Excellent curriculum and I know just from 8 months of the 36 months of training at their VA site you be at 450 Scopes (egd, colon, double, flexible sigmoid , pegt, and at least couple of dozen advance procedures (ERCP/ and eus).

Their endo months and advance month and consult will put you over the 5 times of what the literature says is required for competency in each procedure.

Their hepatology months will have you ready to treat any type of patients for any type of disease both Inpatient and outpatient.

They have a strong referral base, many different sites to rotate and their advance program is pretty solid. You be observing ERCP/ EUS in year one and will do cases and even could graduate from the pilot with having over 225 in both ercp and eus.

You will learn RFa, attend major meetings and be involved in research. Many new procedures from ASGE and Medtronic workshops and new motility and IBD clinics will make any physician into a competent and compassionate Digestive Disease specialists.

Diversity of patients and the broad pathology of digestive diseases with a very well resident wellness program makes Rutgers one of the top programs that know one really talks about.

Apply and if you do choose Rutgers even if you have 20 IVs you will never regret it.

Rutgers - NJMS IMHO is one of the best programs out there

Yeah... The university hospital is a busy inner city hospital .. The training is outstanding.. I think most GI programs out there are pretty decent and each has there own strength.... If I had graduated and was eligible for the spot there I would have definitely taken it..(or anywhere else)..

Still looking to swap Ohio State interview days if anyone is willing. I have 10/11 booked and am hoping to trade for 9/27

Still looking to switch with someone for UTSW. I have 9/27, I can do any of their other interview dates. I can provide “compensation” if needed.

Seems like no one updates the interview list anymore.

It’s because interview invites are nearly over, or people are getting random trickles of invites at already posted programs when someone cancels. I do not subscribe to the measurable second-wave or “just wait until after the 3-day weekend” lore.

Also still trying to switch Sloan Kettering from 10/16 to 10/7. Please message me if you can help out!

A couple of invites I got last week were already posted before hence I did not post...however I do personally know of 7-8 programs that have not sent invites yet and have traditionally done so in September . Also my in house program has sent invites for some interview days and will soon sent for other interview days...

Anyone heard from BCM , Florida or U.Minn ? BCM frequently invites late... But Minn and Gainesville should have invited by now judging by last year... Also for UMD did all 3 tracks invite ? (NIH ,clinical and Mercy ?) Anyone invited to multiple tracks there ?

Baylor has sent some out (again, to colleagues but not to me). Not sure if it was all of them or just their first round.

Hi,

Any of you guys can give me your impression on Cook County Hospital (John Stroger) program? I am hoping to get different perspective on the program besides my own research. I would appreciate any input. Thank you.

I think as I recall that’s the birth place of AASLD and they are a safety hospital. Lots of exposure to different pathology of the digestive track. Lots of work and they have a strong liver and advance procedures months. But I also recall you do some rotations at Rush (not sure) and research.

the Hospital is not in a very good part of Chicago but neither is Hopkins.

so realistically what is a good position to have at this time? I am sitting with 7 IV, and I know my home program has not sent out any yet.

How aggressive should we be reaching out emailing programs at this time?

Pretty much close to end of the season. There may be about 15-20 programs that might send ivs going forward plus cancellations/wait list movement which usually is minimal if any.

The trolling is strong with this one. What an incredibly speculative statement to say to rile everyone up. Eras has been open hardly a month and interviews have just barely begun. Would not consider this ‘the end of the season’. Post objective things or stay in your lane with your speculation.

^^it's not far from the truth... it's nearing the end of first round of invites...unlike other specialties GI does not necessarily have a distinct second or third round as the demand supply is very skewed..yeah people have gotten 10+ invites in september ...but those are exceptions rather than norm...

Only the east coast is still getting started. Most interviews are on Mon. Wed. Fri. Anyone with 10+ interviews who is still in an academic setting would be in a difficult situation to attend all of them bc my are on the same dates and would start to cancel out based on preferences now

I still know a quite a few programs that JUST started looking at applications this week - all in the East. If you applied outside of this region, perhaps your season has ended but the NE/SE applicants are right in the thick of things.

2/3 have sent out. I know my program and other ones which my friends are all matched at still have not even started sending out invites.

People will cancel. Some one I know has over 25 IVs there is no way he will go to all of them.
He can not even take that many days off.

There are people out there not even on here SDN who are sitting and debating which program to cancel because of the number of invites they have.

Let see what happens. I still believe invites will come till first week of oct.

Same I know some few programs too
