I've seen people have gotten invites as well as deferred for Iowa. What if you haven't received either? Probably still going through the applications?
Still going through applicant I assume but they get back to you pretty quickly.

Have many people gotten interview invites to Minnesota? I think I have only seen 1 or 2 posts? Its my top choice and I had an orthodontist offer to write a letter of rec to their dean and a couple professors. He said that he is pretty good buddies with members on their admissions committee..

I thankfully received an interview on Monday, but I haven't heard of many others receiving interviews yet. I would say give them till mid-August and if you haven't heard anything back by like the 20th, then get the orthodontist to send that letter of rec on your behalf!

Oh I had him submit it about two weeks ago! haha Wasn't gonna take the chance of missing out on the opportunity to have someone with close ties to the admissions committee write them a personal letter..

In general, how many batches of interviews do schools send out? I am getting a bit nervous since I have yet to receive any.

One of my friends he got one December interview for 2023 class, but he felt he did not go well with the interview. When we graduated, I thought that he would retake DAT and apply next cycle. But, he received 2 more interviews in February and got in one of them. Right now he is D3. So I am sure that receiving a invitation should not be an issue as long as you are well-rounded applicant and applied reasonably and wisely. It is just a matter of time.

You also have to remember that this is a COVID application cycle. Things are going to be different and take more time.

The one that I had was not recorded. If they are using zoom, there is text at the top that says the meeting is being recorded.

Hello everyone I need some hope!!! I did my DAT yesterday !!! 20 AA/ 22 TS / 20 PAT / 13 RC
1f641.png
They reading was crazy long. I have a 3.8 GPA and I'm doing a master now and I have a lot of shadowing and volunteering hours. I feel with my 13 RC I will be automatically rejected. Anyone got accepted with low RC ? Any advice will appreciated ?

I'm sorry but you need to take it again. I've seen people get in with 16-17 but 13 is realistically a long shot. Some schools really value RC because it's an indicator of how well you'll be perceiving information in dental school. Reach out to schools and ask if they have minimum subscore requirements. Best of luck.

Thank you so much for replying me !! I know this is very low score. I just feel very discouraged and I lost all my chances getting into dental school since this is my third time taking the exam and second applying. In my pervious two attempts I scored better in RC. I have spend alot of money and I feel maybe it isn't never meant for me.

I don’t think it’s not meant for you. After all you did well overall just had issues with RC. Reading scientific articles everyday helps but you also have to figure out a method (search destroy, etc) that suits you the best. I used to write down key terms of every paragraph as I read which really helped me. Good luck!

Hello! First congratulations on the DAT score. A 20 AA is very respectable.

I would definitely reach out to individual schools to ask if your RC score will be acceptable. I assume most schools will strongly recommend you retake the DAT or will say they have a minimum score (usually 16 or so) for any subject.

A friend of mine scored poorly in QR (13) and admissions strongly suggested they retake the DAT. My friend did not retake the DAT (AA: 20) and still received invites/got accepted for a few of those schools. Important distinction though is QR is a subject typically deemed less important than the others so that could be a contributing factor.

I know there are studies that show RC to have the strongest correlation of success among students in dental school. So some schools may value this more than others. Based on memory I think ASDOH, LECOM, and UConn don’t place as high of an importance on RC. Consider reaching out to those schools for more information.

Also you scored really well so if you were to retake it I am confident you could improve on that RC score. Perhaps you got an extremely difficult RC section (happened to me— I scored considerably lower on RC than my practice exams, which was the only subject I saw such a large discrepancy for). But even an average RC score (17-18) will raise your AA to 21. The key however will be to ensure you keep your TS score or improve on it. But even if you drop down to 21 TS and score 18-19 on RC I think that’s a favorable trade off in the perspective of admissions.

If you’re confident you can improve your overall score and money is not an issue, I would retake the DAT. Also be aware of deadlines. The deadline to take the DAT for some schools may pass by the time you retake the DAT.
