USMLE Official 2020 Step 1 Experiences and Scores Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I was creeping on Dr. Ryan's Twitter since he's been pushing hard for the USMLE to allow schools to proctor board exams and seeing students' tweets about their experiences with Prometric even in non-pandemic circumstances has obliterated the small amount of faith I had in them. They've cancelled students on the day of their exams for much less than government-mandated social distancing so I think we should all expect to be on edge until we're actually sitting at a computer answering questions.

Lol, 7 questions into the exam the screen just flashes and says nah man were cancelling now

New petition shared on class group page. I realllllly want to comment and trash it but I don't want to cause a scene lol

We're entitled to our opinion just like they're entitled to theirs and we shouldn't be forced to support digging our own grave when it comes to residency applications. I really wish they would realize that this is not the solution and instead advocate for school proctoring and/or finding more seats outside of Prometric. This doesn't solve the real problem at hand.

some kid in my class at my DO school posted that on their page. I trashed the whole thing. Those people have zero clue what theyre talking about. clearly misinformed. They think that it will get PDs to looks at us “as a whole”. I have news for these people-the last thing PDs care about is us as people. They like numbers. they dont give a crap about our feelings or us as a whole unless we meet their “cutoff”. Its competitive out there if they cant handle the heat then get out of the kitchen lol ok im done. The solution for this whole ****show is to make more room for people to test

On a side note does anyone have any ideas on revamping a study schedule if our tests are moved to like say august or sept. what do yall think is the best way to not lose knowledge but at the same way not burn out. Was originally gonna take 2 weeks off but figured a better idea would be to study 5 days a week instead of 6 until im like 9 weeks out. 4 of the days do 60 practice questions per day with review and the fifth day do content on weaknesses while keeping up with sketchy daily for like an hr. maybe do an NBME every month? I figured if i havent touched amboss or kaplan yet i still have a lot of questions to burn

Did you get a visit from the Prometric grim reaper as well?

Go get 'em! If there's anything I learned from med school applications, it's that numbers are still king. Yes you can have great EC's and a great PS, but that really only gets you so far. I'm sure this is even more the case with residency applications.

Lol yup but i still dont know which exam. Doesnt say whether its comlex or step and my comlex is still up so idk. Phone lines were jammed yesrerday so I couldnt get an answer. Based on what yall are saying theyre both prolly cancelled

I guess I was one of the lucky ones who got an email with the date of my exam cancelled which unfortunately was Step but NBOME confirmed my COMLEX was still on when I called. I would definitely call both if you can since our accounts take a couple days to update.

Haven't gotten a cancellation email yet, but just got an email saying to confirm my appointment. Except I don't know which one...

Edit: got 2 emails 5 minutes apart saying to confirm. No date on either, but I'm hoping it's a good sign

I just got an email from prometric saying my May 05 is still confirmed, but i changed it to may 22. Yesterday they sent me an email saying it's cancelled. What the hell!

Lol same here for June 15. I also rescheduled to July. Prometric is about to be the reason why I have trust issues.

I didn't. F*** that. I rescheduled for a date I am happy with and it has been updated on my NBOME page. I am just going to wait and see what it looks like when the dust settles.
Thats why i haven't clicked. I wasted last 2 days doing nothing. Now i don't wanna take on May 5, rather take it on May 22.

did u click confirm the appointment? On prometric website my confirmation still says may 22.

I didn’t. I don’t want to mess with my rescheduled appointment and get screwed over again. One of my classmates called NBOME and they have no idea why Prometric sent that email out.

"I just called NBME and they said they are aware and this is an email that was sent to thousands without consequence. Believe the cancellation email and stick with your rescheduled date"

After how off base the NBME/NBOME have been in regards to Prometric, I have no idea what to believe anymore.

I just got the email. It says "your test date for May/June". My COMLEX is in July so I'm assuming it's for my Step.

Several people are reporting speaking to both NBME/NBOME and they're saying Prometric messed up in sending these to people who previously got cancellations. But if we didn't get a cancellation, should we assume this is legit??

Prometric is toying with my heart right now.

Well I clicked the confirm button. Thought it would provide more info like our test date and the exam we are confirming and then we'd hit confirm, not just open to a "thank you for confirming" screen. I want to scream.

This is all too much. How can the NBME and NBOME continue to just standby and let this happen? This is cruel and embarrassing.
According to reddit someone called the NBOME and they told them they are in a meeting with Prometric right now and will provide an update ASAP. I have to say, I am actually really surprised/impressed with NBOME. I mean overall they still suck but they actually seem to be doing more than NBME this time.

We actually have a Zoom meeting with the president of the NBOME at noon today. I wasn't planning on tuning in but I think I will now since they do seem to be more communicative about all this than the NBME. I'll let you guys know what he says.

Would you mind posting the link to this?

I'll update this post with NBOME president updates:

***Testing centers in my state will begin reopening this Friday and administering exams. Centers in places like New York will not be opening on Friday. Apparently each center can usually accommodate about 16 people but will be having about 8 per day for the next couple months.

***Still working with Prometric to get more dates but some people might still have to wait a few months (LOL).

***35% of COMLEX candidates in May and June have been rescheduled (so far).

***School proctoring is an option but not any time soon apparently. They said they will only consider this if people are still being postponed several months from now (LOL).

***P/F not happening for USMLE or COMLEX before 2022.

***Shortening Level 1 to 352 questions starting in May 2021 (we may actually get to enjoy this if these cancellations continue). Level 2 being reduced to 352 questions in June 2020.

***Did say it's very possible residency interviews will be virtual this year and that PD's understand students will be applying without scores.

***Politely roasted Prometric's poor communication this week and basically said they have no idea what Prometric has been doing.

This was me as well. I feel like we need a confirmation for our confirmation.

Has anyone taken their schools COMSAEs? Ive been doing well on UWorld and practice questions and then took my schools mandatory COMSAE and got wrecked by it haha

Confirmed no pass/fail???? I just want to make sure I read that right.

He said they are discussing COMLEX being P/F too and could announce that as early as this July but said in terms of USMLE, "they have no plans or intentions of going to P/F any sooner than 2022" (paraphrasing but basically it's not happening no matter how much students whine about it because logistically it's not possible).

Yes, I posted my experience(s) with that in this thread here. They are trash.

I think mine under-predicated my real score by ~200 points. My school made us take a COMSAE & a COMBANK exam back to back in the same day & there was a almost >250 point difference between the scores (LOL.)

This was last year though. Idk what form it was or anything; I don't remember.

lol I will be so butthurt if I take COMLEX in June and they make it P/F in July.
