NBME 18 Scoring: # Wrong vs. 3-Digit Score

I'm curious about how the NBME 18 3-digit scores correlate to the number of incorrect answers. For those that have already taken the exam, can you post your # incorrect and score? I've taken NBME 17 and 18 and while my 3-digit scores were the exact same, I missed 5 extra questions on NBME 18...

Based on that thread it looks like an 84% gets you a 240 for NBME 18

I'm 30-40% through my UWorld incorrects and learning a lot but my overall % correct has decreased! Sad to see how little I retain because I made anki cards for my incorrects in round 1 and read very thoroughly. Now writing about them in an excel document as I get them wrong again (online screenshots have been really helpful too). I've lovingly named them the "double negatives", even though they don't equate to anything positive 😉

Just finished COMSAE (105b), 566. Only below average sections were OMM lol. I have zero idea how to interpret this but if it underpredicts I'm solid with it, my only goal for COMLEX is to get >500 to pass any screening.

Wtf with all of the questions about what agency to refer to, who to contact, etc. Also, finally saw that anesthesiologist question you guys kept talking about. No idea what the right answer to that was lol.

Edit: you can't even see which ones you got wrong, what the...

You're fine, seriously lol My school mandated we take 105 in December (pointless...) and the class average was a 330. Granted, we didnt know half the crap on it yet, and we didnt need to score a certain minimum, but imo that COMSAE was the worst out of all the ones I have done.

I was shocked by the amount of "which agency do you refer the patient to" questions. Like, when did I become a social worker. And random legal latin principles??

Yeah I dont remember much about 105 other than the large amount of cranial, some really weird bugs, and the random ethics/agencies. My friend is taking COMLEX this friday and I am dying to know if there is super crazy ethics stuff on there. Not that I would discuss it with her because that would break confidentiality agreements....

Also, has anyone else thought some of the COMQUEST ethics questions are super annoying? Like the ethics/medical professionalism content at my school was always like shooting fish in a barrel and some of those are.... not that.

I wish I knew about OnlineMedEd for OMM sooner. My school made OMM way too difficult imo. Like I do way better (not great, but much better) on board prep/comsae OMM than I ever did at my school's OMM because they are all on a high-horse about it and try to make it as relevant as anticancer therapy.

Honestly that's hilarious. The only one I am "mildly" familiar with is that last one, because I meant to google trichomonas vaginalis once and got that one instead and confused myself. What is super F***** up about that trichomonas one is that its not associated with what trichomonas vaginalis is associated with at all, yet they look identical physically.

Lol just looked them up, apparently that one causes diarrhea so I think that was the answer?? Who knows. Got it wrong lol, total guess.

Anyways, looking back at the 2019 COMLEX thread seems like 105 sucked and majorly underpredicted?

Yeah I wouldnt worry about it considering you are just about to enter dedicated with a solid COMSAE score. But yes, I have heard that scoring well on 105 means you are "most likely" to do well (better) on the COMLEX because 105 is a bit more minutiae heavy without a very generous curve. I have heard 104 and 103 are best for doing before you take the test and also provide a good gauge as to how prepared you are.
Does anyone know what the deal with 102 is? Nobody seems to post about/take that one......

That said, the COMSAEs are all trash and its totally possible someone can read this post and disagree with everything I said based off their own experience.

My school had us take 102 back in March and I got a 533. I didn't think it was that awful but still a lot of WTF random minutiae I have never seen in class or board prep materials. Apparently a good portion of my class struggled to meet the school's threshold on that one and since I haven't taken any other COMSAEs I can't really compare it to other forms.

haha that test was a load of ****! We basically got the same score I think I got like a 570 something on 105. Regardless, all of my 4th year friends said it underpredicted them by 150 on average (one of them by 170-why they ask us to take such a BS exam I have no clue). Regardless we can expect to get at least mid to high 600s on real deal

Lol this thread is so top heavy its crazy. I think I saw maybe 1 person who scored less than a 240. You would think scoring in the 260s is the norm after reading this.

ugh 2 weeks left and I can just taste it....

Had a group call with some old high school friends last night and everyone was going around asking what shows they're watching and which video games they've been playing and here I am sitting there with 500 cards left to do for the night.

Haha this is true, definitely not realistic to the average person! I just like seeing whether or not people were relatively close to their predictions, brings me comfort. Until I saw that one guy.

Really just want to pull a 240 and il be thrilled. Im sitting at 74% correct in uworld but didn't do very hot the 2 nbmes ive taken. Taking UW1 tomorrow, so we'll see how she goes

I swear my UWorld performance can be so random. Most days I go back to back 72-77% and then some days like today I go 62% followed by 87%. And both of those blocks had the same average in the low 60s. I feel like on the real deal 4 of my blocks will be mid to upper 70s and then the other 3 will be like 62, 67, 90 or something weird like that.

Looks like it hasn’t stayed the same. I found someone who had the same # incorrects as me, but their 3 digit score was 8 points higher

Just finished Combank, 83rd percentile projected 607-622. I've heard this exam way over predicts (if anyone knows more about that please let me know lol) though so who knows. though even if it under predicts by 100 I hopefully will have no problem clearing a 500 once I actually study OMM and finish up Neuro and Metabolism.

Neuro and Heme were my worst normal subjects, no surprise there. Was a littler surprised how bad MSK went (3rd worst) but I've always struggled with OA and RA questions so added that to my review list.

Favorite part of this exam was the "matching ones". those who have taken it know what I'm talking about. Was a big WTF at first but were either a massive breeze or incredibly hard depending on what you were differentiating. Made me nostalgic for the undergrad days.

Happy to got a "good" score for once even if it over predicts, I've been pretty bummed the past few days after failing my first NBME. I find it so wild that I can get a 481 on Comsae 105, 600+ on combank, but couldn't even pass NBME 15 (190). I know Uword percentage is much more predictive, but until I pass a NBME I'm going to be a bit on edge. After 3 practice exams in a week though I need a break. Probably won't do another one for 1.5 weeks at least.

But done with pre clinicals!

I had a nightmare two nights ago where I got up to use the bathroom during Step 1 and fell asleep on the pot. Woke up 3 hours later in my dream and my test was timed out. Was sweating when I woke up

I was there last year, dont fret. Combank super overpredicts, just use it as practice and ignore the score. And I was having trouble passing NBMEs as well, but a few weeks out it started coming together and I did well enough on both exams. Use UW as a learning tool rather than assessment, once I did that I did better on both the tests and mentally.

Posting since I got my score back today: I felt like crap walking out of the exam but ended up doing right in line with my practice scores (-3 compared to Form 18/UWSA2, +4 compared to the reddit predictor). Just wanted to say in case anyone feels like crap after their test, don't lose hope, have a cold one and enjoy being done

I think I overdid it today doing a COMSAE + 2 UWorld blocks lol. Just finished my last block and missed the same amount in the last 10 as I did in the first 30, and literally most of them I actually know and was just so exhausted and over it. Gonna start doing 2 UWorld blocks after my NBMEs so I can build stamina, I know the adrenaline helps on test day but still

I think a lot of the people that have been regularly posting in this thread aren't testing until June and July so that's probably why there aren't as many write ups as years past. I'm sure as June and July progress and we all start testing and then getting scores back, we'll see a lot more of that.
