Official 7/27 Exam Thread!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Is there one yet? I can't be the only one sitting for the test on that date. Where my peeps at?

Best of luck to all of us!
How are you guys studying? For content review, I'm using BR and my old TPRH notes (this is a retake for me), BR passages with EK 1001, and finishing up with full-lengths.

i'm taking it on this day, too. its a retake for me. i'm gonna be using AAMC, EK 1001, TPR...maybe some kaplan...i have to start reviewing everything i know again. get back into the groove of things.

Finishing up TBR passages then on to FLs plus science workbook. Verbal is still kicking my tush. Anyone else?

Retaker over here too! I don't feel like I have to relearn everything though, because I majorly messed up the BS because 1) I hadn't taken a bio class in a year, 2) I really had to go to the bathroom during the BS XD

I'm gonna do ~2months of intense review. Unfortunately I used all the AAMC tests expect one (which I'll save for the end). Which other ones should I buy?

I hear the TBR or TPR are very good practice tests. Courage for the Bio you will master that.

I am taking the test this day too, re-taker here to update my expiring scores.

I have a question for the fellow re-takers. How are you guys re-preparing for this? using the same resources or switching it up? I signed up for it couple of day s ago and I just can't think of a good study plan within the time we have. Any suggestions?

re-took all my EK lecture exams for diagnostic.
Bought AAMC and TBR CBTs (CBT 1 X per week, begin 2X/week June 20)
Doing many hattricks and, based on my CBT reports, continuous review of weaknesses.
Also, I use the 16 mini-MCATs and my Chem and Physics textbooks to clear up topics that are perplexing even after all the above.
About 5 hours/day with a break day as needed. Stay focused!

This is my first time actually and I cannot wait to get it down. GO HARD OR GO HOME FOLKS!

People taking this date - are you applying this year or next? I am debating postponing from July 6th, but I am applying this year

I'm applying next year. I'm taking the MCAT for my first time on the 27th. To me a gap year doesn't sound bad bf med school (im a rising senior), and applying next year earlier in the cycle is a plus too. Win win situation if you ask me, except you lose a year of practicing medicine. Just make sure if you take a gap year its productive.

I'm applying this year as well. Hopefully it works out cause I want to get verified etc before I get my score :scared:

I just changed to July 27th, and am feeling excited about kicking into high gear for the next 1 month and 16 days! How is prep going for others registered for this date?

Not so many ppl in this thread, maybe cause the test date falls on a Friday? lol

Applying this year too. Wish me luck.

I did Kaplan from February, moved my test date from May 24th to July 27th. Reviewing organic like crazy.

Hoping to apply this year. its now or never. :xf:

When are you guys planning on starting to take the practice exams? or did you guys start already?

Took about two FLs already while studying with Kaplan, going to save the best (AAMCs) for last. The good thing about Kaplan is they are so understanding, letting me extend my practice materials until my test date. 👍

How are you liking the Kaplan FLs? Still trying to decide if I should get the TBR tests

I'm for July 26th, same thing though. Just going over content now, only have 4 Kaplan and 1 AAMC that are new, but I may try getting the paper version of AAMC 6.

I am thinking about switching here (or the 26th) from july 6th. I know we def. wouldn't be early in applying, but would we be considered "late" if we were just waiting on the MCAT?

july 26th taker here

5 fls done so far. trying to do 2 a week till the 21st and then one final one on the 23rd. seeing improvement in verbal and bio but need to brush up on some physics concepts. hoping for less ochem on the real deal, though i think if one really has ochem down cold, they are gimme points.

What are you doing for bio?? I'm getting 7s and I need to improve.. I just dont think im used to the style of Qs they ask yet :/ verbals i'm getting 9s, and PS... 😱 dont want to talk about it lol just switched from the july 6 so hopefully I have time for improvement! :xf:

just finished taking TPR 5 and got 8/10/10.

with bio i think its a lot to do with learning the basics and then being able to be flexible to new situations where you need to apply your knowledge.

with ochem, physics and gchem i think its more rote memorization. and with verbal ive been using tpr and ek so far. you just have to hope for decent passages but still focus on every single question- every question matters but have the confidence in yourself to sometimes narrow it down to 2 and then pick one and move on

Wellllp, I am pretty sure I am moving my test here from the 6th. I plan on applying this cycle. I think I would rather have a better test score and be 3 weeks later then the opposite situation.

It's good practice tests, but I'm not so sure if it's close to the real thing. I also use EK and some other online materials.

I also use TPR whenever I go to B&N. I find that their content review is waaaaay better than Kaplan. The latter is full of silly wordings and analogies which I hate. Just give to me straight unfiltered science already!

I feel like I created the thread because there was no other one at the time?

TBR tests have been pretty decent lately.

Same boat 👍

Just switched to this date from July 6th.. looks like I'm not alone!
I'm retaking (9-9-9 previously) and I'm scoring 29-30 on practice tests with a goal of a 31-33. Bummed about postponing but I'd really hate to have to take this miserable test again!

Has anyone tried other CBTs other than kaplan or aamc? I'd like to get some fresh material since I'm about maxed out on the others.

ChiveON - I think the TPR tests are actually really good (ones you get in the online portal with the class) although the PS is brutal and the bio may be a touch easier then AAMC tests.

I am thinking about switching from July 6. I am freaking out about it! I am 4-5 points away from what I want, but I feel like my app will be late this date. Ahhh. Anyone?

I have heard mixed suggestions on applying. some say, apply early so that you have your app verified but then others say wait til you get your score, its enough time to still apply. so. confused. 😕

Similar question, is the July 26 or 27 late July MCAT going to hurt your application even if you submit in July with primaries in by August, assuming average gpa, mcat and ec's?

I think it really depends where you're from to an extent. The more competitive your area is the worse it is.

I am finding TBR really demoralizing right now. Trying to use chad's videos and then TBR, but all I feel like doing is not studying....ok now that I vented, I really need to pick up the pace. I've essentially read through every TBR chapter, but not too sure if I should just focus on my weaknesses up to this point (optics, electro, orgo) or go through each chapter again after my FL to make sure I understand.

So I'm wondering if I should just make a list of what I think are my weaknesses based on my past 2 FL or proceed to go over each chapter again in these 5 weeks left.

no it's just the overachieving attitude of most SDN students ... it's not late lol its on time! people think you can either be early or late, there is a middle you know lol

I know some people make excel sheets and such but to shorten that whole process. While I review my exams, I would just get a blank page and write down the weaknesses for every exam. I would do that for each practice exam and eventually saw a pattern. When i do not have a full length scheduled, i would review my weaknesses. I could never tell if i improved or not...but maybe it will work for you! :xf:

hah! that is true. so wait until i get my score back in late august?

spiceupyolife just apply in july to one school just to get the app processed, after mcat while waiting on the score do the secondaries of all the schools you plan on applying to once your score comes in.. then add all the other schools if u like your score once u get it, and when schools send you secondaries, you will already have em done. walllaaa magic

Oh my gosh I really need to just make a decision. Maybe I will take a test Friday after work and if I am not within 2 points of what I want to score postpone from July 6th to 27th?

Idk.

there really is no harm in a 3 week delay, I think you would regret it more if you didn't perform as well as you would have liked on july 6. You would be thinking "I could have done better had I taken it later."

A seat opened up at the testing center on my block, so I postponed. Now I feel so great that I have over a month left - just not sure what is the best way to spend my time.

What is everyone's study schedule for the next month like?
