***Official April 2006 Score Release Countdown Thread***

In the continuing spirit of the tradition started last year, we will hold this as your official countdown til score release thread. You can use this as a countdown, but may also post in here general conversation if you are just going insane over this wait. Also, this may not be an exact of when the scores will come out, but we don't know how many days before the official 60 days are over they will come out. Last year, they came out around June 15th at 10pm. But this will give us a rough approximation.

Ok, let the fun begin.........

Lets pray for all of you and for my very best roommate, and two of my other bestest friends. 😀 May all come with good news in the following two months.

This is for the neurotic ones who just need somewhere to vent their frustration over the wait. 😛

This year's release has been anything but ordinary. Apparently, from what I have heard from multiple friends they will be mailing out the score reports this week...meaning you may get the paper copy before the online one...

...very strange.

I think if everyone tried to get the folks at AAMC in D.C. to release the scores (which they control), we could have scores by the end of this week.

I am totally in for signing a petition...

Are you in med school right now? I think they were talking about you at the Kaplan course. The instructor was saying that we have had one female instructor that scored 42 (or something similar). I am pretty sure they were talking about you.

Q scored 43... I had a TPR chem instructor who scored 41, and her sister scored 42 🙂

AAMC doesn't control the scores. ACT does. As QofQ described 5 pages ago, the AAMC will get the scores for online release on the 20th. ACT is going to start mailing the scores by the end of the week.

I graduated with a 3.5 GPA this year. i did summer research at Yale Med School, Univ of Maryland and a semester long internship in Thailand at the Neurobehavioral Biology center. I also studied abroad in Thailand and London. I'm currently working for the year as a research assistant at Yale med school. In college i was involved in and won awards for public speaking and tennis.
The bad thing is i took the MCAT for the third time this past april i got a 16 the first time, then a 22 and waiting on this aprils score

Do i stand a chance? 🙁 🙁 🙁 🙁

It would STRONGLY behoove you to score a 30. If you don't, it will be an uphill battle.

Q, how much did you prep for MCAts? I am myself a double major, in biology and anthropology. I have yet to see what the scores of the MCATs were, but from what I remember, I had some difficulty with the verbal section, but luckily didn't have to guess and finished it. Did you breeze through it?

Yeah, I did hear something about that! I didn't hear the whole story but someone told me it was on the order of thousands of tests that were screwed up. How did they even catch the errors??

They caught the errors because when people were requesting their tests to be re-scored by hand a lot of the results turned up different. So they knew they had a problem on their hands.

Your GPA is ok and your experience sounds strong. Those MCAT scores are, as you know, very low. I think you will need at least a decent score this time (high 20's, but 30+ is better) to make up for the testing history. You never know though, with 28+ MCAT this time you might stand a fair chance.

I live in MI and my husband is in a different state for the summer. it would be great if my scores came in the mail Sat. and he could be with me when I got them 🙂

I bet most rescoring requests come from people who score aberrantly lower in only one section. If you're used to scoring straight 12s for instance, and then you get 12 12 6 on the real thing, chances are that 6 is a scoring issue.

I would ask for a rescore if it's below 25...

It would only make sense to rescore if there was one section that was freakishly low. If you're low across the board, rescoring is pointless, since the odds of them mis-scoring all three scantrons are infinitesimally low.

Well, while we are all biting our nails (at least I am) and waiting for inefficient AAMC to give us our results, does any have any idea where to put your publications on the AMCAS? The MD-PhD "Significant Research Exp" essay wants us to put our pubs in the Work/Activities Section but I have 4 so does that mean that we list each pub as 1 item - we've only got 15 spaces and there are other things that I want to put in there... Any advice? Thanks.

I'm sorry, I called and then went to the dry cleaner. Now I'm posting. 🙂 They said that scores will be "available around the 20th" and did I know that it was posted online? I thanked her and asked time of day, the lady gave a tired sigh and said "I'm sorry, all I know is that it's supposed to be around the 20th."

I think it's interesting that she said "around the 20th" rather than _on_ the 20th... but I'm sure it doesn't mean much 😉.

I took the CBT and from overseas - gawd, my snail mail is going to take forever to arrive. My snail has to crawl and then swim and since I live in a condo, crawl up to my apt on the 10th floor... Sighs...

I listed my publications separately, but that's because they were for two completely different projects. You could probably group them if they're for the same project. As long as you can fit them in the character limit, I'd put as many together as I could if I were you.

My sister did not take the MCAT, and although she is very bright, I doubt she would do very well because she didn't take any of the pre-reqs. She hates science. 😉

I've taken the test twice. The first time, I did not take it as seriously as I should have, but I did get a book from the bookstore and read through it. I am ashamed to confess that I didn't do any practice tests....this is NOT a strategy that I advise any of you to follow. 😳

The second time, I studied my butt off. I did the Kaplan online course, although I pretty much skipped all of the chemistry review since that's what my PhD is in. 😛 But I did everything for the physics and the physiology, which were my weakest areas. One thing that I did not do which I regret is that I never took any AAMC practice tests (although I did complete the five Kaplan practice tests that are part of the course). I do think that it is good for students to take at least one AAMC test, preferably one of the more recent ones (7, 8 or 9).

I'm not sure what you mean by "breeze through it." If you mean, did I finish in time, yes. I'm a very fast reader, and I finished all of the sections early except the WS; I took the whole time allotted to write each essay. If you mean, did I think the test was really easy, no. I felt the least sure about the VR section also. I thought I had done best on BS, and that was indeed the case.

i heard the mis-scores were due to the scantrons getting wet and not being properly fed into the reader.
