I might as well get one started. I'm taking it in August but prepping now! Haven't seen my Sciences in YEARS so I'm starting early. Join as you will.

PhD does not belong to DO/PhD category? You mean the slash means double degree not "or"?
Well, I don't mind to change it and I don't care about it anyway.

I've applied this cycle. Assuming you've already sent in your amcas/transcript/LOR and it's all verified you should be fine. I've applied to 20 schools and have gotten 15 secondaries back. I've already filled them out and I'm just gonna submit them on Oct 1, 24 hours after our scores are released. It's definitely later than would be ideal, but it shouldn't be too bad assuming you're a relatively qualified candidate and you didn't only apply to reach schools.
Yeahhhhhh, I don't even have my LOR's yet haha. I told the people that I asked that I would give them my personal statement so that they could work on it, but I really underestimated how much effort everything was going to take and I finished a rough draft of my personal statement yesterday. Also, I am just finding out that the Texas schools want their secondaries submitted by Oct. 1st. I don't think I can finish my personal statement, and send in my primary and secondaries by next week haha. I guess I could just apply to the schools that don't have secondaries but I think I'm just going to hit the brakes and get everything ready so that my applications are strong next cycle.

Hi guys!
So I've been watching the thread for awhile now but haven't posted. I figured I should add my info to the group tho cuz I know how useful it is for data collecting purposes and such.

AAMC average : ummm like a 38 (14/11/13)
Expected score : 34-38 (13/8/13 maybe)

I felt pretty confident about physics and bio, but verbal definitely killed me. This seems pretty consistent with what some of you guys are saying tho.
Anyways, I'm nervous but there is nothing I can do about it now so why worry too much I guess. I'll deal with what happens when it happens : )

I have almost identical AAMC average (14/11/14) and expected score (but I took 9/18 test). I also have the exact same Verbal failing on the real thing.

I'll bite and give my thoughts:

AAMC FL Avg: 36.5 from FLs 3,7,8,9,10,11 (I got a 33 on AAMC3, but that was before I finished studying everything)
Expected Score: 31 (I totally bombed it lol)

Everyday I try to reason out the best possible score that I know isn't impossible, then the worst possible score I know is technically still possible. Today I concluded that 27 was the lowest possible score I could get that isn't impossible (9/9/9) and the best possible score I could get that is possible is a 40 (14/12/14). Honestly, I'm going to be kind of sad when we get our scores back. At least when we're looking forward to them there's potential for dreaming about what could be. When we get them, it's more than likely not going to live up to our unconscious hopes.

Just realized haven't' done this:

AAMC FL Avg: 31
Expected Score: 27-30
Actual Score : ???

This wait sucks...

AAMC FL Avg: ~33
Expected: 32-36

The schools I want to apply to have an average of around 31 for their incoming class. As long as my score is good enough to land me some interviews I don't care much what it is. I just want to know for sure I don't have to retake it.

it seems like there are so many people on SDN with averages in the high 30s and even 40s
I'm sure there's plenty of people with mediocre scores, it's probably that those with high scores are just more likely to post than those with scores in the low 30s

Ditto. The new test frightens me, between the subjects I didn't study in college andthe insanely difficult trial sections

Haha yeah, there's no way I'm taking the new test. I've actually taken a good amount of psychology and I still had no idea what was going on.

Does anyone know the actual day our scores are supposed to come out. Also is it bad if I haven't received any emails from aamc. I didn't do the trial section so I know I shouldn't have gotten and emails from that. I got some "after test survery" emails but that's it. Thanks and good luck everyone.

September 30th

We're in almost the same boat. I just graduated engineering (ChemE!) in May and I'm working now. I took this exam in April and scored not so well (albeit, I didn't study at all...stupid capstone.). Retaking sucks, but consider it a challenge. And who knows, maybe you won't even need to retake. There was some dude in the August 21st batch who was scoring 20s and ended up with a 31 I think? It's definitely possible.

haha awesome! im EE graduate 🙂
wow its amazing how you took mcat in April with all those courses! thts just insane!
I cud never do it. I studied roughly 2.5 months during the summer while working full time and finally took 2 weeks off before the exam cuz I was having a major panic attack lol
haha yea i saw tht dude's post too and was like i hope thts me
but yeah its rarely rarely rarely possible.

what did you do different in your studying for August mcat?
i saw your later post and how you scored FL average of ~37! thts just amazing --
I'm sure you have a chance of getting that 40. I mean seriously you never know.
how long did you study? were you working full time?
also, for my potential retake (fingers crossed) which books do you recommend?

a lot of people recommend Berkeley with SND2 schedule.
Its just so sad that now I will have to write the new mcat if I failed.
I mean seriously -- no books no schedule no exams. and 3 hours longer and more verbal!
and I'm just painfully bad at verbal - no idea on how to improve -
I might just die studying..

My major difference was that I actually studied this time, the last time I reviewed a little physics and gen chem (no bio or orgo) and took a couple practice tests that I didn't review. Terrible prep, but I wanted to apply this cycle and I was pressed for time. I took the summer off between graduation in may and work in September, although about a month of that was time spent moving from my undergrad on the west coast to MA. I won't tell you how I studied unless I do well on this one, wouldn't want to give you bad advice in case I bomb this one too..

Only 4 more days...

Probably a long time... But you should load it into your account now if you haven't already, and then your account will just have a positive balance until whenever you want to use it.

I felt like I did around a 33 when I took the test but I have no idea now. I wasn't even thinking about my score until this last week and now I just want it to come so I can know what it is and not think about it anymore.
