Des Moines is pretty civil, but there is a lot of farmland around it and the smaller towns...........mostly flat in central iowa, though you can find it more "hilly" in the west!

Did'nt wattleworth say that she would let us use a Master Cardiology without the bell as long as we tell the SPAL Pt that we are now listenig with the bell.

Personally, I like the Cardiology II (my mentors were cardiologists 😀), but I bought a pediatrics scope that was seriously on sale just because it was cute ($89.00 steth for $16.00).

I'm going most likely into FP, so I figured it won't hurt me to have a spare pediatrics steth...

Okay, so I couldn't help it, it was pink and had a crystal-looking head... and I got it a cute little giraffe ID tag and six changeable smilie-face or flowered diaphragms for only .60 each to go with it... all on sale 90% off. 😀

Hey, BTW, is anyone going to be moving to Des Moines at the beginning of July? If you are, do you want to get a jumpstart on Biochem with me? I'd say study anatomy, but flash cards and a Netters truly doesn't cover it. 😀

If you really want to prepare, you should memorize the Phone Book.
It'll prepare you're brain for future memorization tasks.

😱

She did but sometimes spal patients don't know what you mean when you say "if I push harder its like when the other students switch sides of the stethoscope" plus in your first two years are you really anywhere near master cardiologist level of distinguishing heart sounds??? I know I wasn't, and yes the recommended is the cardiology III.

Eiko, I'll study with you! I'll be there in the first days of July. Keep in touch!

I'll be there at the beginning of July too. But I don't know about studying just yet 🙂 Maybe, I'll think about it!

I'll also be there in the begining of July, but like Munchkin, I'm not sure I'll want to start studying then, but who knows. We should try to get together for a drink at least, and then we can talk about studying...first things first! 😉

Cheers,

J

I think I´m also going to be moving in the beginning or middle of July. Is anyone else interested in living at Windor Terrace? I think that´s where I´m going to be living and I was just wondering if any of you were going to be my neighbor. I could also deal with hanging out and drinking some bur before we start school.
Is it just me or is this year flying by? Maybe I´m just starting to freak out about med school starting, but it feels like it won´t be too much longer and my life as I know it will be slowly drained from my existence--sad times.

I don't really know when I will be moving in, BUT I know I will not be studying in July. Why would you want to do that to yourself? You are going to be beat over the head with material from August on, July is the time to relax and settle in. But don't let me tell you what to do, cause you will probably score much better than me on that first BCM test. Study in July, really.

the man makes an excellent point.........just from experience even if you study in july you won't remember it by the third week of august after you've had like 4 exams already.🙂

DOitright,
I'm also planning on moving to dm in early july but first, i'm moving to Lanesboro in february. since i'll be in the 'neighborhood' so to speak, we should get a good start on that beer consumption/idealizing the studying thing.

Sounds like a good idea to me! Let me know when you get "in town." We'll definitely get the party started!

I think we'll be done with boards and maybe school by sometime in July.

If there are 07 parties (like we shoulda' been having all along) we should invite some 09er's...

Any comments from 07?

I, personally, want to try to schedule a elective rotation as soon as possible after school finishes, but I don't know how all that works yet...meeeting is tomorrow.

HOLLA!

I think it would be in the best interest of all female (and males i suppose) 09ers to keep "busy-hands McPortier" as far away from them as possible, especially when there might be alcohol involved

I know this is going to sound weird to most of you...but I can't wait for Des Moines weather! It was -33 degrees this morning when I was walking to work. That's with the wind chill of course, but I just checked Des Moines and it's a pathetic -6 with the wind chill...now that I can handle!

Rochester sucks!

Awww man, now I'm shakin' in my boots! -6?? Wow... We dropped to the mid-teens here last night. And we're expecting freezing rain this afternoon--which is a bummer because I'm going out tonight... I hope I still can.

How does traffic get in that kind of weather in Des Moines? If you live in an apartment complex, do they clear the parking lot of snow for you? What inconveniences do you encounter?

I'm really glad about all the buildings being connected soon... that way we can shed our winter gear and just hang out in normal clothes the whole time we're in school.

How severe does the weather have to be for DMU to close? Are they understanding if you miss because of weather?

Bitter winters and all, I still can't wait to start!! 😍

-6 is balmy.......it got down to -35 the other night.........I had to go bribe my car into starting telling it I would buy it the "high premium" gas next time🙂 But only a couple more months then it will be 98 with a heat index of 110.

Chuckle... that way you can slack off a little more during school. 😀.

If I glaze over something before hand... then I sponge it like a photographic flashback. If I crunch it then I have to study three times as much... Makes for less study time 😀.

Freezing rain sucks...a few weeks ago we were brutally beaten down by some freezing rain. I kid you not, there was at LEAST an inch of ice on all ground surfaces, I practically had to crawl to work! It was CRAZY! Wish I had some ice skates.

I'm not sure how it is in Des Moines, but I would guess it's similar to Rochester. The city is pretty good about clearing streets and public parking lots, etc., but as far as apartment complexes, that's totally up to the apartment. They may have somebody come and do it (I would imagine this would be the case for the most part), or they might expect you to do your share. If you own a house, it's all on you. The city can and will actually come and fine you if they have to clear your sidewalk area! I think you have something like 24hours after precipitation stops to get your sh*$ cleared.

Yes. That will be great! Downtown Rochester is all connected via subway/skyway, and it's really great during the winter months! So does that mean the girls can still wear little bikinis during winter? Sweet! 😉

I am not sure DMU's policy on so-called "snow-days"!

I'm looking forward to starting too! Although I'm trying not to want it to come so fast, because I know once it starts, it isn't going to stop for quite a while!

Cheers

I have the aviator glasses, but I shaved off the long flowing beautiful hair and beard I had going......to many people asking me if I was the unibomber. Now the Ferrari I'm working on, but I don't think its going to be very reasonable🙁 Oh and the tight white short shorts are hard to come by nowadays.

I'm wondering what kind of limits there are on the software we can load onto the laptops we are given. Does anyone know? I'm wondering if I can have my iTunes and Palm stuff on there. Also, do we keep the laptops when we graduate or do we return them. Of course they will be outdated by then....

thanks!

I have itunes on here and my ipod hooks up with it, and so does my camera and etc. Lucky has both her palm and pda synced with it, so you can pretty much put whatever you want to on here. You also purchase your computer for $1 on graduation because you pay for it in the technology fee. If there are any other questions let me know.

Claire? Is that a family name? 😀 (Breakfast Club reference)

It's essentially your machine, after all, so you can pretty much put what you want on there. As far as your Palm stuff goes, I'm using a Palm handheld as well, but plan on selling mine on Ebay as we get a Pocket PC based handheld in addition to the laptop when we start school, and a new one when we start our third years.
