**Official Fall 2007 Cycle Application Thread**

I got interview calls today from Scholl and DMU almost back to back. Scholl is the 12th of October and DMU the 27th. That was pretty fast considering I sent in my app on Tuesday.

was everything inlcuding letter of rec, transcripts and official Test scores sent?

Woaaa just got an interview invite through email today to Barry and i just submitted application last night. They dont' have my transcripts, LORs or DAT scores!

Whoa, I'd say that's a bad sign. Seems like the're interviewing anyone who just applies without even looking thoroughly at their profile. But on the brighter side, it'll make a great backup school if worse comes to worse 😀

I didn't apply to Barry. But I did apply to Temple and Scholl, and they called for an interview without recieving my LORs and some transcripts. Those are considered 'top-tier' correct? I was told by Temple and DMU that everything had to be in before matriculation.

Yea thats what i was thinking as well!

Just got a temple invite LOL 2 days after sending in app. They still have no LORs, transcripts or DAT scores. Do these schools even bother looking at the app? I mean its cool to get the invite but its dishearteining to see that they didn't even bother looking at my app fully (either that or no ones applying) so confusing in that matter.

Just to clear up some of the confusion a lot of times a school will invite you to interview based on the information you provided in your universal application even though they don't have all your materials. The invitation is based on the assumption that the info you provided is accurate and they will confirm that with your transcripts once they recieve them. If your transcripts and letters of rec show up and aren't what they are suppossed to be the interview was really just an expensive trip to visit a school you won't be attending. 😀

Has anyone heard anything from AZPod or know when they will start contacting around?

Thanks!

I haven't heard anything here. I know that the Director of Admissions for AZPOD has been quite busy lately. However, today we had a group of Physician's Assistant applicants come through and be interviewed... so they can't be that far off for AZPOD.

After 2 weeks of delay due to summer classes and finals, I've finally submitted it last night. Just checked my email this morning and already received an interview at Barry. That was a little too fast  Just curious, anyone schedule their interview at Barry yet or should we hold up for the other schools to respond?

If you think about it, it will probably only take 10-15 mins to read your entire application. Given that we are still early in the game of applications, the admissions committee have all the time in the world to read your app and make a decision for an interview right away based on the stats you have entered (assuming that we're adults now and you entered it correctly) It sure does beat the billion months that the Premeds and Predents have wait. My roommate sent out his AADSAS app (dental) last month and my other roommate sent out his AMCAS app (med) also last month too and both are still waiting for schools to receive them 😀

i leave tonight to go out to barry. my thoughts are such: barry is kinda like a worst case scenario. i am confident i will get in, and cool, if everything goes to hell, at least i have a grad. school to attend and can continue down my chosen path. plus, miami is one of my favorite cities. shortly after getting my barry interview invite, i heard from several other schools like dmu, ohio, cali, scholl, temple. i scheduled interviews with them, and obviously would rather attend dmu than barry. don't want to sound like an ass or anything, but i just thought get one outta the way for practice, get something secured just incase something goes wierd at other schools, but do way good at my serious interviews. ill let u know how barry goes.

i submited last night , just got a call from Temple and a Barry email so 2 interviews i have to set up

After I submitted my APMSA file, within days I had four offers to interview. Is this normal? I am very excited but wonder what the interviews will be like. What are your thoughts...😳

I called AZPod today. They say they have my LORs at least. Seems kind of diorganized. I submitted on the the 6th, but they dont have the app either. They said hopefully another week all the stuff will be together. They said my app and transcripts may be "around there somewhere". So another week for them. If anyone gets a call, let us know so we know when to expect something.

I got an email today from AZPOD and CSPM (my top 2 choices) requesting that I take the MCATs this January in order to be considered further for admission. I responded indicating that I would be willing to take the MCATs in Jan since more schools are seeming to have a preference for it. Any idea if this would delay my application until Jan or would they interview and accept based on my own guarantee that I will do well on the MCATs?

Damn that means that taking the DATs was a waste of time then 🙁

From what I've heard, they'll interview you and give you a 'conditional' acceptance. The SDNer who already got accepted to Scholls hasnt taken the MCAT yet. I'm sure each school is different. That's awesome you heard from AZPod though. They seemed flustered today when I talked to them, saying they didnt even have my application yet. haha. Good luck :luck:

I was accepted there without even interviewing they will probably except you with out you having to go interview, if your stats are good which I assume they are since you are invited to dmu. You could save yourself a plane ticket.

California is only accepting the MCAT now? Isn't that CSPM?

I doubt your DAT experience was wasted as it will give you a preview of what the MCAT might be like.

One thing I will say in regards to AZPOD... just realize if you are accepted to AZPOD you are being accepted to the best osteopathic medical school in the country, as well. Several 1st year students are struggling with the level of difficulty presented here at Midwestern. They thought they were "only" going to "podiatry school" when, in fact, they are being held to the rigorous demands of AZCOM. It isn't for the faint of heart. Make sure you are ok spending all day and most evenings studying (and every weekend) for the next several years if you decide to come here because pretty much every student in AZPOD and AZCOM keeps this schedule to stay afloat in the deluge of information... but, oh, how you will learn!!!

We have a joke here..."I should have gone to (insert school name here) instead." AZPOD is extremely challenging but students with excellent study habits, great work ethic, and the ability to memorize quickly will be able to succeed.

Good Luck,

How can it be the best school when it has yet to produce a single podiatrist. I will argue that it is a great school, but I hate to break your bubble that DMU is currently the top school. We have a proven track record and you guys base your curriculum off of our model. Just curious how many graduates have you place into a PM&S 36. oh yeah I forgot you haven't any grads yet. Still you have a good school and I would encourage students considering AZPOD to interview there.

Everyone needs to remember that the "best school" is subjective. There is no sense in debating it. Good luck to everyone interviewing.

Ohh man not this debate again 😛

Yup, they (Samuel Merrit) strictly stated that they will only accept the MCAT for the entering class of 2007 from now on.

I don't want to make it such a big deal he AZpod rocks always said it so definatively when it is not necessarily the case. Yes I would agree with IlizaRob that It depends on things like personality study habit, work ethic, etc. And I don't fault AZpod rocks for his passion a about his school. Good luck to you all. Interview well so you can enter into this great profession. Good Luck to All. DMU is top notch come check it out. It will be a trip that is not wasted.

Well, you are not going into Osteopathic medicine, so how do you know that your school is the best Podiatric Medical School? What else does AZPOD do for you your first couple years besides lectures to make it the best Podiatry Program?

I assure you that there are other Podiatry programs out there that are just as challenging as AZPOD. Everyone at Scholl studies "all day and most evenings (and every weekend)" just to meet the very challenging curriculum. Also, I know students at DMU that study just as hard as well. The fact is medical school requires a lot of time and effort just to get by, not just your school.

Please read more carefully! I did not say AZPOD was the best podiatry school. I said AZCOM is the top-rated osteopathic medical school in the country and AZPOD students have to take the same classes. Please don't put yourself on the defensive for my sake. 🙂

Your insinuation that we are a DMU clone is incorrect and does not hold up under scrutiny when AZPOD's history is analyzed. AZPOD was not based on DMU's curriculum model. How absurd. It is based on AZCOM's curriculum model. Furthermore, most of the instrumental people in the creation of our program were heavily influenced by the California model from a decade ago. DMU is a good school, though, so feel free to note similarities. 🙂

I'm in a feisty mood right now or I wouldn't take the time to respond to your post, but as far as PM&S 36 residencies go... do you really believe that any of our students will not earn one if they choose? We were the only school this year to have a 100% board pass rate among first time test takers. Let's not start a "mine's bigger than yours" debate (lol)... it just breeds contempt as we've all seen in the past. My original post did not compare AZPOD to other schools in terms of who's better or anything. It just was a warning that even the most academically prepared incoming students among all schools are struggling quite fiercely to stay afloat with the flood of information here at Midwestern. There are several students who have made comments inferring they wish they had gone to easier schools.

I'm sure DMU and the other schools are great! They all have their strong points and have graduated excellent students.

Good Luck in Your Studies,

AZPOD Rocks

👍 👍 👍 😀

You guys all continue to realize (I hope) that one day when you pass boards, you'll all be working together and no one will care where you were trained nor your board scores, MCAT's, etc. This is so fruitless and really, it only serves to hurt the image of the profession. Pods are smaller than many professions and more close knit, thus this behavior can spread around like wildfires and make people and DPM's in general look bad. Hopefully this nonsense halts with this thread. But of course, you know it won't when some newbie joins.🙄

What are everyone's top choice for school?

Mine is Scholl. I'm just curious where everyone on SDN wants to go.

Everyone needs to remember that the "best school" is subjective. There is no sense in debating it. Good luck to everyone interviewing.

The whole "best school" argument is pretty lame. Look at board scores and residency placement and figure it out for yourself! I will say that I have rotated with students from basically every program this year and while I have met sharp students from MOST of the schools, it is pretty easy to see that some programs prepare you a lot better than others.

What the heck AZPOD doesn't accept DAT's!!!!!!!

in their requirement section it says they do!!!!

The program uses multiple criteria to select the most qualified candidates including cumulative GPA, science GPA, MCAT scores, personal experiences and character, ability to communicate, familiarity with the profession, volunteer/community involvement, research experience, and other considerations. MCAT scores are not always necessary if other suitable comparative test scores are available such as DAT, PCAT, or GRE.

It can't be any clearer thats not fair for students applying this year that already took the DAT. Where was the warning.

Why would you take the DAT??? Podiatry has nothing to do w/ denistry? I'm not trying to insult you but the MCAT is what should be and will be the only entrance exam. I'm sorry you feel decieved but always contact the school and talk to a person, never believe what you read or hear.

It just changed this year but hasn't been updated on many documents yet. I tried to advertise this several months ago here on the forum, but the reason AZPOD didn't advertise this much was because, up until a month ago, it wasn't for sure they would only accept the MCAT this year. There were still some faculty members who were undecided. Contact Dr. Jenkins, Director of Podiatric Admissions, and talk to him. If your DAT scores are high, he might be able to do a case-by-case allowance for you. If your DAT scores aren't high, you might consider taking the MCAT if you really desire to go to AZPOD.

Good Luck to You!

I hope that all of the Podiatry schools would eventually revert back to accepting only MCATs for admission. That was the case before 2000 for all Podiatry schools.

Well reason is they don't have enough applicants they need to fill the seats, their there to make money first, look good second. But I'm betting each year the applicants are increasing so their in the border of probably having some competition with students. I think they should make a whole separate test just for podiatry schools.

There are not enough pod applicants to make a separate test. Also, there is no reason too. Podiatry is medical school, and there is no difference in pre-req classes so why would people need to know different things than DOs and MDs?

How long after e-submitting the app does it take until schools respond? I sent DAT scores and transcripts, but not the August MCAT scores yet.

I heard from Temple, Scholl, and Ohio within a week and a half. AZPod doesnt exist right now...no one has heard anything. I didnt apply to Barry, but everyone says they respond the next day practically.

:luck: :luck: I got into DMU woooo yeahhh :luck: :luck:

its the day after, and i havent heard from Barry yet. 🙁

Haha, stupid picture...
Maybe I'll go wrangle bison in yellowstone before I start DMU

Just relax, from what I've heard, almost all schools have stopped doing same day acceptances and are actually taking their time.

got my letter of acceptance from ohio today! that is exciting, as options usually are. i interview at dmu friday--any comments about the interviews thus far at dmu?
